Franek Scores Second Victory At ‘The Highbanks’

(WOODHULL,NY)- Cars filled the pit area as the sun shone over Woodhull Raceway. The Patriot Sprint Tour came in for their second slated show of the season.
Brady Fultz and Bobby Davis brought the 26 car Insinger Performance Modified feature to green. Fultz held the lead after some early race cautions. Davis piloting the no. 60j machine was loose and lost several positions early in the race. On lap five the Davis machine had a broken rear end was had to take it pitside. Billy Van Pelt and his no. 2 machine made their way from 11th up to position number three by lap 6. On lap ten, Van Pelt took the lead from Fultz.
Bradon Martin and Donnie Lawson battled for the sixth position as Van Pelt stretched his lead. Cory Costa started working the high side and made his way to the top five after starting in the 16th by lap ten. On lap 17 second place runner, Fultz got tangled up with lap car Sheldon Gardner. Van Pelt staid dominant on the late race restarts, as point leader Costa tried to pick off cars to get closer to Van Pelt and Josh Keesey who ran in the second position. On the last lap Donnie Lawson got a flat right rear tire and stopped right before the pit entrance. Van Pelt brought home his third victory this season with Keesey, Costa, Russell Morseman, and Martin followed to complete the top five.
Noah Talada and Jim Weatherley brought the Joe Willcox Performance Automatics Street Stocks to the green flag. Talada grabbed the lead and led the first three laps but Dan Gardner pulled to the inside and passed Talada coming out of turn four. Mick Seeley who had a good start got into the second position and started to chase Gardner.
Kurt Stebbins driver of the no. 26 started in the 12th position made his way to third on lap 6. Lap 8 Stebbins claimed the second spot pushing Seeley back to third. Two cautions back to back gave Stebbins the help to grab the lead from Gardner. Stebbins took the lead on lap 9 and walked away from Gardner and Seeley. Brett Crawford crept into the top five and was battling for third place with Seeley and Branden Morseman. Stebbins got win number four with Gardner, Seeley, Morseman, and Crawford in tow.
Davie Franek grabbed the lead early in the A-Verdi Storage Containers Patriot Sprint Tour 25-lap feature event. One early race caution wouldn’t shuffle too many positions. Jered ‘The Juice’ Zimbardi ran second through the nearly flawless feature event. The 15 car field gave the drivers plenty of racing room.
On lap 14 Franek got loose coming out of turn four but continued to hold the lead over Zimbardi. Zimbardi kept Franek in sight but didn’t quite have enough to get by him. Jordan Thomas creeped into the third position on lap 16. ‘No Panic’ Franek got his second feature win at ‘New York’s Toughest Bullring’ making him two for two this season. Zimbardi, Thomas, Kyle Drum and Joe Trenca rounded out the top five.
Adam DelGrosso took no time in taking over the lead in the Johnson’s Auto Supply FWD class. After a caution Ryan Austin took the lead away from DelGrosso and started to pull away. While behind him Scott Lehman Jr. and Nick Brown went three wide with DelGrosso. DelGrosso fell back to fourth. Codie Baker who drives the no. 14 machine started running the bottom and creeped up the field.
Baker continued to make his way through the field as he found a fast groove on the inside. Unfortunately, Austin found car troubles and had to pull in which put Baker in the lead. Baker walked away with the lead from the restart after that. Lehman Jr., Nate Freeland, DelGrosso, and Brown completed the top five.
The NAPA Crate Sportsman was brought to green by Adam Taft and Brandon Butler. Taft grabbed the lead from the drop of the green flag. Cole Youse and the no. 8 machine quickly took over second place as lap three went in the books. Butler had troubles with no. 16 machine and slowed coming into turn one until he came to a stop on the back stretch. Numerous early race cautions shuffled the field around. Taft held the lead up front until Kenny Peoples Jr. made his way up through the field. Lap 7 saw a three car battle for the lead with Peoples Jr. on the outside, Taft in the middle and Youse down on the bottom.
Tim Guild and AJay Potrzebowski Jr. whom started near the front ran strong in the top five despite numerous cautions. Peoples Jr. passed Taft to take over the race lead on lap 9. Peoples Jr. continued to be dominant throughout the rest of the 25-lap event. Behind him the Guild and Potrzeboswki Jr. held their ground up front while Brett Buono and Tony Harris came from mid pack to the front using restarts to their advantage. Guild, Potrzebowski Jr., Buono, and Harris finished the top five.
Brent Willaims grabbed the lead early in the Woodhull Auto Supply Hobby Stocks. A few cautions again shuffled the field. By half way Chris Woodard driver of the no. 97 machine took over as race leader. The cars had lots of racing room and points leader, Jeredd Dennis was trying to catch Woodard in attempts to keep his winning streak alive.
Woodard managed to hold off Dennis despite a few bobbles towards the end of the race. Mike Spencer made his way up to third and veteran driver Carter Dennis battled for positions and finished fourth. Brent Williams was also a dominant driver finishing in the fifth position.
Danielle Thomas and Cara Pitts led the Daugherty Auto Sales and Service Mini Stocks to Tony Van Pelt’s final green flag of the night. Thomas grabbed the lead from Pitts on the back stretch and tried to pull away. Rick Amidon was close in tow and started battling for a top three position. Jason Ketrow put pressure on Pitts to also sneak into the top three.
Ketrow made his way into the lead by lap five. Graduate from the warrior division, Carter Crooker made his way to the front of the field and battled Ketrow for the lead on lap nine. Ray Hyer also battled for top five positions towards the end of the race. The battle was at the front though, with Ketrow and Crooker. Crooker ran behind Ketrow trying to find a way by him. A couple attempts led Crooker short and Ketrow came home with his second win of the season. Crooker, Hyer, Pitts and Josh Webster rounded out the top five.
