(WOODHULL, NY) – Racing is a great way to hang out and create friendships. This week’s driver does just that. He comes into Championship Night tied for the point lead, and is going out and having fun each and every week at Woodhull Raceway.

34-year-old Shawn Gleason races full time at Woodhull Raceway with Chris and Jeffery Daugherty. When Shawn is not racing at the track, he’s working with heaters and air conditioners.

“Racecars, racecars, racecars” Gleason responded to the interview question, what hobbies do you have?

Gleason first got into racing by helping a couple people years ago. Then Shawn met Chris Daugherty and Shawn has been in it ever since. Unlike other racers who come from a generation of drivers, Gleason has only had his brother, Jason race before.

Gleason’s racing experience may be limited but that doesn’t limit his talent. Shawn has raced a go-kart and a front wheel drive car. However, we can’t leave out that he has hot lapped Chris Daugherty’s sportsman modified. He also added on that he drove a mini stock at Chemung for a while.

Shawn has had three years of experience racing all with the front wheel drive car.

“A lot of luck,” Gleason said is what it is going to take to win a Woodhull Auto Supply FWD points championship. Currently Shawn is tied with Codie Baker in points.

“Nights with all the friends, working on cars, and when you of course win that’s sweeter too,” Gleason responded with to what his favorite part about racing was?

“It ain’t bad when you can all go out from the same crew and win the same night either,” Gleason added. Chris Daugherty runs in the NAPA Crate Sportsman division while Jeffery races in the Daugherty Auto Sales Mini Stock Division. Shawn wanted to give a shout out to Daugherty and the crew for helping go out and race every week.

Overall Shawn just wants to have fun with his racing career. “Go fast and don’t hit walls,” Gleason said to sum it up. For the future, Shawn just wants to continue to help with the Daugherty crew and have fun racing.

Shawn Gleason, although partially new to the sport has a lot of talent. He is all about having fun, which should be every racers first priority. Winning is a lot of fun and feels amazing but racing to have fun can give you the same effect. Make sure to continue to watch Gleason this week as he rounds out the season in contention for the FWD points championship.
