Woodhull Loses April 16, 2022 Season Opener To “Ma Nature”

Up next on the high banked one-third of a mile clay oval will be a Great 8 Show including the Insinger Modifieds all presented by White’s Truck Repair and Towing of Westfield, Pa.

(Woodhull, NY) Without a doubt the phrase, “April Showers Bring May Flowers” has run true thus far in the 2022 season at the Woodhull Raceway. With a spring season filled with mostly cloudy conditions along with rain and snow showers it has been a frustrating start to the campaign.

With a race day forecast of rain showers coupled with below freezing nighttime temperatures the management of the historic Steuben County venue have decided it best to cancel the April 16, 2022 season opening event.

“We lost both practice dates to wet grounds and snow, stated Woodhull owners Terry and Niki Brewer. It seems like we get one good drying day and then two or three days or cold, rain and even sleet and snow. That is typical April weather, but when you add in the fact that this area is mostly clay, things take forever to dry up. The pit and spectator parking lots are still very soggy and if we try and jump the gun on this thing, we will have a mess that will be delt with all summer. The weather for Saturday does not look promising whatsoever so we will pull the plug now and get ready for next week.”

With the loss of the April 16 lid lifter, the focus now shifts to April 23 and the return of the Insinger Performance Modifieds as they begin their 2022 season.

Original plans called for the April 16 opener to feature the NAPA 602 Crate Sportsman as they would have raced for a $1,000 to win special. However, with the cancellation of the event all eyes will now be on April 23 Modified Special paying $2,000 to the winner.

It is unknown at this time if the NAPA Sportsman $1000 to win special will be made up. Once more information is known, Woodhull will release it on their website.

Also on the Great 8 card will be the NAPA Crate Sportsman, the Armstrong RUSH Crate Late Model and the Joe Willcox Performance Street Stock Divisions. Also included will be the Hobby and 4 Cylinder Mini Stocks along with the Front Wheel Drive and Warrior Classes.

Gates for the April 23 show open at 4:30 with racing at 6:30 pm.

White’s Truck Repair and Towing of Westfield, Pa. will be onboard for the April 23 event as the headline sponsor.
