Annual Running Of The George Williams Memorial Set For This Saturday!

Griffith Energy and Elkland Moose 746 to co-sponsor the night of action featuring a Modified Special.

Story by Kenny Shupp Jr.

(Woodhull, NY) The Woodhull Raceway has been and always will be about tradition. One of the many special events that occurs annually at the historic Steuben County Oval is the George Williams Memorial this year scheduled for Saturday, May 22, 2021.

Named in honor of Woodhull’s founding father, George Williams along with his two sons, Jim and Bob designed and built the speedway on their family-owned farmland in one of the most beautiful locations in the Southern Tier of New York. At the age of sixty-five, when most people were nearing retirement, “Old George” as many called him was just getting started as the high banked one third of a mile was carved out. Featuring its paperclip design with long straightaways and tight corners the unique configuration has more than one driver scratching their head. Many of northeast’s top pilots have at one time or another tried to tame the high banks with many making the comment, “If you can figure out Woodhull, you can race anywhere.”

Now under the ownership of Terry and Niki Brewer, the Woodhull Raceway George Williams Memorial will continue to be one of the must-see races at the facility. Historically, the event is run prior to the Memorial Day Weekend and 2021 will be no exception and in keeping with tradition The George Williams Memorial helps kid off camping season and other outdoor activities across the Twin Tiers of NY and Pa.

As part of the night of action fans will enjoy a Regular Great 8 Show featuring the Insinger Performance Modifieds as they will run a special 35 lap, $2,000 to win feature event. Also seeing competition will be the Cummings Trucking RUSH Late Models, the NAPA Crate Sportsman and the Joe Willcox Performance Automatics Street Stocks. Rounding out the night of action it will be a complete show of the Big Jim’s Wicked Tee’s Sponsored Mini Stocks and Warriors, the Woodhull Auto Parts Hobby Stocks and the Johnson’s Auto Supply Front Wheel Drive Divisions,

Gates for the May 22, 2021 event open at 4:30 with the first heat race going off at 6:30 pm.
