(WOODHULL, NY) – The Daugherty Auto Sales Mini Stock division saw a thrilling finish to their 2016 track title fight. Ron Dailey Jr. and Chris Woodard both put themselves within five points of each other going into the final points race of the night.

As it turned out, Dailey started up front in the final A-Main of the season, requiring Woodard to pass Dailey for the win if he was going to win his first track championship of his young career. Dailey was driving a team car to fellow competitor Chip Warner, who both had strong seasons in the four-banger division.

With the hard work and great racing mind in crew chief Adam Austin, Woodard was able to make the move for the lead on Dailey and drove away to the Championship Night victory and the 2016 track championship. It was Woodard’s sixth victory of the season, to Dailey’s four regular season wins.

The title was decided from June 25th forward to close out the year. From June 25th on, Woodard would not finish worse than third with three wins, two second place finishes and three third place finishes. Although Dailey’s stats didn’t look all that different, the difference was made up in Dailey’s three wins, two second place finishes, one third place finish and two fourth place finishes in that same stretch.

Other highlights of the season saw early season point leader Karl Born from Williamsport, PA lead the way after two the first two point shows were in the books. He would claim two victories during the regular season, making his crew chief (father) proud who follows the action all the way from Florida on a weekly basis.

Jeffery Daugherty grabbed his first career Mini Stock win midseason, enroute to a top five finish in points and claiming the 2016 Rookie of the Year award. Daugherty’s season would have been considered successful with those numbers alone, but he made it even sweeter by garnering his first career Crate Sportsman win in his first start in the division this Fall.

Ray Hyer was able to snag two wins in the 2016 season, while John Hand picked up a much-needed victory during one of the several Fall specials. One of the most consistent drivers who didn’t pick a win in 2016, was Rick Amidon. Amidon split his time between driving and grooming his son Brody, who looks to be a rising star in the Warrior division.

All of Woodhull Raceway’s track champions will be crowned on Saturday night at the Watson Homestead & Conference Center in Painted Post, New York. Cocktail Hour kicks off at 5:30PM, with dinner and awards taking place immediately afterwards. Turn 5 Live on the Performance Motorsports Network will be recording a LIVE episode of their weekly dirt track racing program throughout the event and will interview all of the champions and many other drivers and special guests.
