Pork Chop Knowles takes RUSH Crate Late Models, AJ Costley wins first of the season in Crate Sportsman as does Wesley Houghtaling in FWD, Jason Warner in Mini Stocks and Joe Birdsall in Hobby Stocks. Bradly Morseman remains perfect in Woodhull Warriors.

Story by Kenny Shupp Jr. Promotions and Consulting LLC.

(Woodhull, NY) Welsh Well Drilling of Addison, NY was onboard to sponsor the May 28, 2022 event at the Woodhull Raceway and after a day and a half of rain and cool temperatures, the skies cleared during the afternoon and with plenty of moisture in the High Banked 1/3 of a mile clay oval the track was more than fast all night long.

Bob Silvernail has been quick all season long, however a series of bad luck and bad finishes have found him swimming upstream thus far in 2022. Because of his poor finishes, Silvernail found himself starting on the front row for the Insinger Performance Modified twenty-five lap A Main. Silvernail would jump into the early lead and despite an event that was plagued by five caution flags, he was in control throughout the entire distance and would come home for his first trip to victory lane in “22”. Ajay Potrzebowski, who lined up twelfth on the opening grid used the numerous yellow flags to his advantage along with some nifty moves to claim second at the double checkered flags while veteran competitor, Russell Morseman had another solid effort in claiming the third and final podium finishing spot. Brayden Bills began the event on the front row along side of Silvernail and would race within the top five the entire distance in claiming fourth while last weeks feature willer, Dayton Brewer began the event in seventh and advanced two spots to round the top five.

Like Silvernail, AJ Costley in the NAPA 602 Crate Sportsman Division also has had his share of troubles in the early part of the year. With the weekly handicap system in place, Costley was able to begin the twenty-lap affair on the pole position and take command right off the opening green. He was dogged throughout the entire distance by a pair of Lawson brothers in Blake and last weeks feature winner, Cayden. Thru a handful of caution flags that would keep the field bunched, Costley was able to hold court at the head of class and come home for victory number one on the season. Blake Lawson kept Costley within striking distance but came up a car length short at the finish to claim second. Lady competitor, Isabel Barron who began the event in row three got around Cayden Lawson late in taking home third place with Lawson in tow for fourth while current high point man, Josh Nobriga started ninth and would complete the top five finishers.

Brian “Pork Chop” Knowles cruised to his second Armstrong RUSH Crate Late Model win of the season after taking the victory on opening night. Rookie contender, former Street Track Champion and 2020 Woodhull Raceway 100 winner, Brett Marlatt continues to impress, but at the end of the twenty-lap feature Marlatt had to take a well deserved second place finish with Clayton Tarabori nailing the third spot. Jim Buck and Joe Layfield once again had solid finishes in placing fourth and fifth at the finish.

The high light of the nights racing was the Joe Willcox Performance Automatics Street Stock thirty lap, $1,000 to win event. Mike Williams and Luke Boom would lead the field to the opening green flag and with only a pair of caution flags in the early going to slow the pace it was clean and green throughout most of the event. Travis Webster, who picked up a feature win on May 14 was able to pass Luke Boom to take the top spot-on lap twenty-two and go on to the victory. 2021 Street Stock Track Champion and a two- time winner thus far in 2022, Brett Crawford began the event in the seventh slot and came home for second at the finish as he was chased across the line by Branden Morseman in third. A pair of invaders in Laverne Knickerbocker and Mark Griffin would complete the top five.

In Hobby Stock action yellow fever was the name of the game as no less than six caution flags would slow the pace and keep the field bunched. Dillion Phillip would lead the first eight laps before giving way to Joe Birdsall who would take command and lead the remaining twelve laps to take his first win of the season. Phillip would hold on for second while still looking for his first feature win of the year after numerous good runs. Third went May 14 winner, Kaiden Dgien while 2021 Track Champion and opening night winner, Jeredd Dennis was fourth with Brandon Conklin rounding the top five.

Jason Warner was finally able to take home win number one of the season after leading most of the Wicked Tee’s Mini Stock feature event. Travis Southard and Dillon Morseman brought the field to the opening green, but third place starter, Warner was unstoppable on this night, got to the point quickly and cruised to the win. Former Sportsman lady competitor, Danielle Thomas had her best run of the season finishing second as newcomer, Craig Decame finished third. Fourth went to Rick Amidon who began the event in sixth while pole starter, Dillon Morseman ran in the top five throughout to claim fifth.

After total dominating the first four Front Wheel Drive feature events, Ryan Austin was upended by Wesley Houghtaling as the second- generation driver picked up his first feature of the win of 2022 after an early season filled with nothing but problems. On opening night Houghtaling found himself on his lid after losing a battle between his machine and a turn two uke tire. From there it has been a slow recovery, but on this night, he put it all together in claiming the ten-lap victory. Adam Delgrosso made his first appearance of the year and finished second with Ryan Austin having to settle for third thus ending his four-week reign of terror. Kayley Bacon and Kevin Doud continued their impressive season by finishing fourth and fifth.

In the Wicked Tee’s Youth Warrior Division, it was fifth verse same as the first as Bradly Morseman kept his undefeated season intact by claiming the win. As he has in the previous four outings Marshall O’Brian had to once again play second fiddle to Morseman in claiming another runner-up finish. Third place went to Kayleigh Morseman with Izzabella Morseman fourth and Courtney Thomas taking fifth. Jaden Stone and Brayden Feenaughty competed the finishing order.

Congratulations to all competitors.

Coming up next on the High Banked one-third of a mile clay oval it will be Armed Forces Night with free admission for all Vets and Active- Duty Military. On the card it’s a Regular Great Show with a Special Hobby Stock King of the Ring one on one elimination event.
