(Woodhull, NY) It all started several seasons ago when the ownership of the Woodhull Raceway decided to try something outside the box. The concept of a one-on-one elimination event was discussed and after some tweaking, the Modified King of the Ring event was born with the wording a combination of King (Of the class) incorporated with Ring (New York’s Toughest Dirt Bull Ring). The tradition will continue Saturday, July 30 as the competitors in the Insinger Performance Modified Division will once again go at it to see which driver will wear the crown and cape.

Since its inauguration, the Modified King of the Ring additional weekly classes that compete at Woodhull have been added to the King of the Ring list including NAPA Sportsman, Joe Willcox Street Stocks, Armstrong Rush Late Models and Hobby Stock Divisions.

The inception of the King of the Ring format has spilled over onto several other tracks throughout the northeast and in every case, it gives both drivers and fans something additional to enjoy with many drivers taking the opportunity to try some different chassis set-ups prior to feature action and at the same time hoping to win the title and bragging rights that goes along with being crowned King of the Ring.

There will be a who’s who list of drivers competing for the Dgien Trucking Insinger Performance Modified King of the Ring including cousins, Joe and Jake Dgien as well as Billy VanPelt, Dayton Brewer, Donnie Lawson, Brady Fultz and Bob Silvernail. All of which have won feature events in 2022 at the Woodhull Raceway.

In addition to the Insinger Performance Modified King of the Ring and their regular twenty-five lap feature event, also in competition it will be the NAPA Crate Sportsman, the Armstrong RUSH Crate Late Models and the Joe Willcox Performance Street Stocks. The Wicked Tee’s sponsored Mini Stocks and Woodhull Warriors, along with the Hobby Stocks and Front Wheel Drive Classes will round out the Great 8 card.

Race day pit gates open at 3:30 pm with Main Grandstand gates at 4:30 pm.
