(WOODHULL, NY) – Russell Morseman made it six different winners in six different attempts at running the Jake Davis Memorial Modified King of the Ring Saturday night.

In fact, the final round of Morseman and last weekend’s Outlaw Summer Nationals winner and 2017 Bullring Challenge winner Cory Costa, made it six different runner up finishers in as many attempts as well.

Morseman was strong down low and Costa was strong up on the top side of the track, which made things very interesting when they would draw their preferred lane for the final round.

On the drop of the green, Morseman powered by Costa on the bottom of turns one and two, while Costa bobbled on the top shelf in turn two. The bobble essentially ended Costa’s chance at Morseman in the two-lap shootout, with Morseman collecting the hardware and the $500 top prize.

But that’s not to take away from the speed that Morseman showed right off the trailer Saturday night. The C.P. Carrillo, K&N Filters, Elkland Moose No. 44 was an absolute rocketship in the chassis that Morseman debuted about a month ago named “Russzilla.”

“First off I have to thank Jake who’s up looking at this, I hope he enjoyed it,” said an emotional Morseman. It just showed how much it means to the Woodhull drivers to win this event.

“I was really looking forward to this, I won one of these with my Crate car.”

In fact, Morseman is now the second driver who can say that he has won a King of the Ring in both the Modified and the Crate Sportsman. Ironically, a feat that was completed for the first time back in June when Kenny Peoples Jr. won the 2018 running of the NAPA Crate Sportsman King of the Ring.

Costa found something he thought would help him come feature time in the King of the Ring, but that didn’t help relieve the dejection he felt from finishing second.

“Just overcharged the corner there, just overdrove it and we’re off a bunch right now,” said Costa who picked up $250 for his efforts.
