(WOODHULL, N.Y.) – A strong showing of 45 cars and 187 people lined the pit area at Woodhull Raceway for Saturday's Open Practice session.

The session for hot laps and testing and tuning came one week ahead of the 2018 season opener scheduled for Saturday April 21. Lias Tire and Insinger Performance will present the opening event that will start the 54th consecutive season of racing at "New York's Toughest Bullring."

Several racers carried an on-board camera courtesy of Turn 5 Media, who services Woodhull Raceway for PR and digital media services. Those videos will be released over the course of this week on Woodhull Raceway's social media channels.

Nearly 50 hearty fans bundled up to brave the chilly weather to get their first racing fix in Steuben County for 2018. The grounds in the pits were dry for the most part, while the parking areas for general admission continued to dry as Saturday morning's fog and misting rain covered the facility, before breaking away just before the first green flag for practice.

Attention now turns to this Saturday's opening night activities. The NAPA Crate Sportsman will compete for a top prize of $1,000-to-win, while the Woodhull Street Stock Challenge Series will compete in their first race of a three-race series that Saturday pays $400-to-win and $50-to-start with a $15 entry fee.

The Bear's Auto Body/C.B. Motorsports Front Wheel Drive Challenge Series will compete in their first race of a four-race series. This first race will pay a cool $400-to-win and pay $50 just to take the green flag, with a $10 entry fee. Cars from many surrounding tracks are expected to attend the event that will follow SCDRA rules, with the exception of this race allowing cold air intakes.

This Saturday will start the 2018 points season, with the Crate Late Models, Hobby Stocks, Mini Stocks and Woodhull Warriors being awarded full feature and heat points. With special events taking place for the Crate Sportsman, Street Stocks and Front Wheel Drives, those drivers in attendance will receive no heat points and 20 championship show up points.

Pit gates will swing open at 3:30pm, with pit passes being set at $30 for pit admission for all ages. General Admission gates will open at 4:00 with Woodhull's Early Bird Special that runs from 4:00-5:00 where fans can receive $1 off admission. General admission is $12 for adults 13 and up, Seniors 65+ and ages 8-12 pay the reduced price of $6. Kids 7 & under, as well as camping are always free at Woodhull Raceway.
