(WOODHULL, NY) – We will let you have this one Mother Nature. For those keeping track at home, let the 2018 season show 1 point in the wet weather column and a goose egg in the Woodhull Raceway column.
Wet weather and frigid temperatures forecast over the next several days has forced Woodhull Raceway owner Ted White to cancel the April 7 practice night for this coming weekend. Track conditions are looking great, however the rain over Tuesday and early Wednesday has made the grounds around the speedway impossible to host the racers' trucks and trailers to tow their cars.
"Without the rain on Tuesday and what we have had today, we would have been ready to go," said White when contacted Wednesday morning.
"I wouldn't have said we would have been ready to go maybe a week ago, but last week and weekend, the grounds really made progress with some warming temperatures and the wind picking up like it has. We will let the grounds dry up and hopefully get some better weather for our season opener on April 14."
With the practice night being cancelled, the season opener on April 14 will now be the track's opening event for on-track activity. The Crate Late Models are slated for a 30-lap, $1,000-to-win event sponsored by Close Racing Supply.
Opening night will also feature the first of a four-race series for the C.B. Motorsports/Bears Auto Body Front Wheel Drive Challenge Series. The first challenge race will pay a cool $400-to-win and pay out $50 just to take the green flag in the 24 car A-Main.
This past Monday started a new era for Woodhull's Social Media presence, as the new hit Podcast/Facebook Live show "Inside the Bullring" kicked off for the 2018 season. Hosts Steven Ovens, Kim Symonds and Megan Dupuy take race fans through the 'fastest thirty minutes in dirt track racing' with news, results, points, fantasy league updates and driver interviews. Tune in to "Inside the Bullring" Live on Monday nights at 6PM on the Woodhull Raceway Facebook page.
