WOODHULL RACEWAY LOOSES JULY 24 EVENT TO MOTHER NATURE.

(Woodhull, NY)  With a heavy dousing of rain just at the start of race time and more of the same in the forecast, Woodhull Raceway owner, Ted White had no choice but to cancel the night of race activity on Saturday, July 24, 2010.  With an already saturated racing surface from numerous rain storms over the past 36 hours it left White and his staff with little choice but to pull the plug on the show which will set up a huge night of action on July 31 as the winged Sprint Cars will take to the high banks of the Woodhull Raceway.

On the card will be the make-up 25 lap feature for the ASCS Patriot Sprints followed by a complete show of the Open 360/410 Sprints as well as an entire Big 6 Show of all of Woodhull’s regular classes of competition.

WOODHULL RACEWAY OPENS MONTH OF AUGUST WITH A CRATE SPORTSMAN SPECIAL EVENT.

Multi Media Services and the Elmira Jackals Hockey Team to sponsor the August 7 event.

(Woodhull, NY)  The S&W Awards and Photos Crate Sportsman Division will take center stage on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the Woodhull Raceway as the highly popular class will run their first special event of the season.

“The Crate Sportsman Division has been a very good addition to the weekly card at the track, stated Woodhull owner, Ted White.  Ever since the class was brought onboard four years ago the fans have been treated to full fields every week and a multitude of different feature winners.  No one really rules the roost so to speak.”

Donnie Lawson has won back to back track titles over the past two seasons in the Crate Sportsman Division at Woodhull however; it has not come easy for the second generation pilot from nearby Addison as it has been consistency rather than multiple feature wins each season that have found him claiming the track championship.

Lawson will lead the charge of a whole host of Woodhull regulars for the August 7 special event as such other standout drivers like Zach Sutton, A.J Potrzebowski, Casey Pavlick, Chris Silvers, the Delong brothers as well as who’s who list of others will see competition.

Also on the card it will be a regular show of the Insinger Performance 358 Modifieds, the NAPA 360 Late Models, the Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stocks along with the Signs Plus of Kanona Mini Stocks and the LaBarron Brothers Repair and Parts Front Wheel Drive Divisions.

Mike Bills Tames the 358 Modified Field at Woodhull Raceway

Woodhull, NY…  A passing rain shower may have put a temporary damper on the racing at the high banks of Woodhull Raceway this past Saturday, but it couldn’t cool down the door-to-door action on Southern Tier Coal night.  Victory lane was graced with one new face for the 2010 season and a few more that haven’t held the checkers since the early part of the year and the point races in most of the divisions continued to tighten up as teams head into the last third of the 2010 campaign.

The NAPA 360 Late Models rolled out onto the smooth, brown clay for the first main event of the evening.  Defending track champ Glenn Whritenour paced the field of 17 cars to the wave of the green and used his prime starting position to walk off with his third win of the season, dominating the contest from flag to flag.  Numerous caution flags prevented Whritenour from opening up too much of a lead, and allowed eventual runner-up Jaye McConnell to keep Whritenour in his sights for the entire race.  For McConnell, it was a career best finish, followed by another season-best effort from Jared Hill, who finished third.  Fred Amann continued to gain momentum and crossed the stripe in fourth, with Bob Buono rounding out the top five in only his second race since returning to the 360 Late Model ranks.

After the rains came and went, the Insinger Performance 358 Modifieds replaced the packer trucks on the speedway and took to the moist, tacky track for their feature race.  Joe Dgien and Mike Bills paced the field to the green flag and it was Bills who jumped out to the early lead.  Dgien was soon feeling the heat from veteran Ron White as Kenny Peoples Jr. followed closely in tow.  By lap 9, Bills was already encountering lap traffic, which could threaten his ten car length lead.   Caution on lap eleven negated Bills’ lead anyways, but cleared him to once again set sail on the ensuing restart.  By this time, Kevin Chilson had joined the mix and was working hard on White for the third position.  By lap 14, White cleared the Dgien machine and left him to the clutches of Chilson who soon disposed of the youngster to claim third by the 17th circuit.  By lap 21, Chilson’s teammates, Fran Dunning and Billy VanPelt, were also in the hunt, with Dunning sliding by the boss Chilson to take third on the white flag lap.  As the checkered flag fell, Bills drove across with his fort victory of the 2010 season, with White a few paces behind in second.  Dunning led Chilson across the stripe for third and VanPelt made a last lap, last corner run work to get by Dgien for fifth.

14 year old Connor Brown bolted from his pole position to set the early pace in the S&W Awards Crate Sportsman main event.  Ray Smith and Brett Buono chased Browns back bumper for several laps, but it was defending track champ Donnie Lawson who was on the move.  By lap four, Lawson had already cracked the top five and was challenging Ajay Potrzebowski for the fourth position.  Brown and Smith then spent the next several laps running side-by-side, but each time the former feature winner Smith looked to have a line on the youngster, Brown would pull back to the point.  By lap ten, Lawson slid by Buono and set his sights on the top two.  Just as caution waved on lap 13, Lawson clipped Smith for second and on the ensuing restart, took the young Brown to task as he muscled underneath and made it two wide for the top spot.  For the next three laps, the two waged an epic battle, Lawson fighting for ground on the low side and Brown attempting to hold him back from the outside grove.  Lawson’s experience and persistence eventually got the better of the rookie, as he squeezed by for the lead on lap 16 and never looked back as he cruised to his third victory of the 2010 season.  Brown held together the best run of his brief career by finishing second, with Smith holding tight for third.  Bill Brewer and Frank Kline both made late race charges to finish fourth and fifth respectively.

Brett Marlatt keep the heat on defending track champion Russell Morseman III by picking up his fifth win of the year in the Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stock division.  Morseman rallied back from a mid-race altercation to finish second, with his cousin Ted Morseman Jr. crossing the line in third.  Jeff Smith ran in the top five the entire race and brought his #40 home for fourth, with Jim Williams Memorial feature winner Mike Williams rounding out the top five.

Ron Dailey Jr. continues to own the Signs Plus of Kanona Mini Stock class, as he tallied up win number 10 on the season.  Dailey nipped Branden Morseman at the line for the second week straight, but Morseman was stripped of his runner up position after being disqualified after a post-race technical inspection.  This handed second place to veteran Ed Mills, with JR Hoppe, Jason Ketrow and Brandon Martin filling in the top five.

Mark Schenk made a late race move on point leader Jamie Freeman to claim his second checkered flag of the year in the LaBarron Brother FWD division.  Freeman held tight for second as teammate Codie Baker shook his recent bad luck to take home third.

Next week Swarthout Recycling present a regular big six show. Then, Woodhull ramps up for a huge 360/410 sprint car show in July 31st, which will feature the return of the ASCS Patriot Sprint group.

MR EXCITEMENT FINDS VICTORY LANE IN 360 LATE MODEL ACTION FOR THE FIRST TIME AT THE WOODHULL RACEWAY IN 2K10.

Ed Mills also gets first win of the season in the Mini Stock’s.

(Woodhull, NY)  On an action packed night at the Woodhull Raceway, several familiar faces found victory lane last Saturday night.  However, two top names in their respective divisions hit pay dirt for the first time in 2010 as Jeremy Wonderling in the 360 Late Models and Ed Mills Jr. in the Mini Stock Class each visited victory lane.

For Wonderling in the NAPA 360 Late Models it was not an easy win by any means as several different drivers gave him fits throughout most of the 25 lap feature grind.  Veteran competitor, Barry Payne led most of the first half of the event and looked poised to win his first since returning to the sport after a lengthy semi-retirement before Wonderling took over the top spot.  From there Mr. Excitement had to withstand relentless pressure from the Might MOPAR of Greg Galligan, but in the end it was Wonderling picking up the win by several car lengths at the finish.  Galligan settled for second followed by Payne, Mike Wonderling Sr. and Glen Whritenour.  Brady Wonderling was sixth chased across the line by Jared Hill, Fred Amann, Tony Foth and Steve Watson.

Heat wins were claimed by Whritenour, Jeremy Wonderling and Brian Knowles.

The Insinger Performance 358 Modifieds ran a pair of 25 lap feature events with Frank Dunning nailing down his third feature win of 2010 in convincing style has he won the Jim Williams Memorial make-up feature. Veteran competitor, Lee Bills had his best feature finish thus far in a 358 Modified as he finished in the runner-up spot followed by Dale Welty, Kenny Peoples Sr. and Bob Davis.  Ray Bliss Jr., led the next group of five across the line followed by Ron White, Kevin Chilson, Lucas Schroth with Steve Hartman Sr. rounding out the top ten.

In the night cap 358 Modified feature event Ray Bliss Jr. picked up his second feature event of 2K10 as he had to withstand a multitude of yellow flags and constant pressure from many time Woodhull Raceway Track Champion, Billy VanPelt.  On a number of occasions VanPelt looked poised to cruise by the high flying Bliss, however on every occasion “Zeke the Streak” was able to keep VanPelt at bay and pick-up the popular win. Al Rudalavage made his first appearance at Woodhull this season and after starting at the back on at least two separate occasions from multi car tangles was able to power his way to third at the finish followed by Frank Dunning and Dale Welty.  Stacy Jackson used the numerous yellow flags to his advantage, kept his nose clean finishing sixth followed by Steve Hartman Sr. Brian Doolittle, Kevin Chilson and Brett Boyer.

Ed Mills Jr. etched his name into the Woodhull Raceway record books with his first win of the season in the Signs Plus of Kanona Mini Stock Division as he was the winner in the Jim Williams Memorial make-up feature event.  After starting deep in the field Brandon Martin was able to slice and dice his way thru traffic to a nice second place finish followed by Brett Crawford, Jason Ketrow and Brian Grant Jr.  Six thru ten were current high point man Ron Daily Jr., Tom Kleintop, early event leader, Rick Amidon, Brandon Morseman and John Hand Jr.

In the regularly scheduled 20 lap feature event, Ron Daily Jr. once again proved why he has been the man to beat in 2K10 as he started last and drove to his ninth feature win of the season with a last lap, last corner pass of Brandon Morseman.  Morseman appeared to have things well in hand on the final lap, however between turns three and four his car drifted high allowing Daily to get along side and win by inches at the wire.  Rich Sharpsteen was third, Jason Ketrow fourth with Tracy Dunn rounding the top five finishers.  Brian Grant was next across the line followed by Brandon Martin, Jeb Walworth, Ed Mills Jr. and William Gardner.

It was an all too familiar scene for the S&W Awards and Photos Crate Sportsman Division as yellow fever was the name of the game once again on this Saturday night with numerous multi car tangles leaving many with bent and broken race cars.  For the third time in the 2010 season Addison competitor, Zach Sutton was able to get to the lead early and with stand the multitude of caution flags to pick-up the win. The race to the finish was fast and furious as A.J. Potrzebowski fought off an ill handling car to finish second followed by Casey Pavlick, Eric Delong and Bill Williams.  Tony Hooker and Don Lawson crossed the finish line next both with badly damaged cars from earlier race altercations with Art Goodier, Mike Buchanan and Larry Keegan rounding out the top ten.

Early evening qualifying heat races were claimed by Buchanan, Keegan and Nate Delong.

The Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stocks once again showed why they have been one of the Woodhull Raceway’s most popular classes over the past three decades.  A green to checkered 20 lap feature run found Rookie competitor, Teddy Morseman Jr. in victory lane for the second time this year.  After a spirited battle with Mike Williams for most of the event, Morseman cruised to the win with Williams having to settle for second.  From there on back throw a blanked over the next pack of cars as Joe Layfield was able to just edge out Cory McConnell for third as Russ Morseman came from the last row to round out the top five.  Jeff Smith led the charge of the next group of five across the line chased there by Jeredd Dennis, Cliff Moss, Kane Stebbins and Brett Marlatt

Less that a couple of seconds separated third through tenth in a great finish.

Qualifying heat wins were claimed by Russ Morseman and Mike Williams.

Last but certainly not least the LaBarron Brothers Repair and Pats Front Wheel Drive Division took to the high banks of the Woodhull Raceway for their 20 lap feature.

With just a few quick yellow flags to slow the pace the racing for the top spot was a classic between three of the tracks winingest Front Wheel Drive competitors.  At the finish it was Ronnie Hill bagging his fifth feature of the season; however it did not come easy as Hill had to pass both his team mate Mark Schenck as well as Jamie Freeman to get the win.  The trio crossed the line just a few scant feet apart with Cody Baker finishing fourth and Steve Gee fifth.  Matt Prescott put on a steady drive to place sixth followed by Tim Steffey, Wesley Houghtaling, Jeremy Seeley and Andrew Matthew.

Heat wins went to Schenck and Gee.

With another night in the books it sets up a Regular Big 6 Show on Saturday, July 17 as it will be the Annual Christmas in July Bicycle Give-a-way with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the speedway.  The night will be sponsored by Southern Tier Coal of Woodhull.

Gates open at 4:30 with racing at 6:30.

MIKE WILLIAMS WINS ONE FOR HIS LATE FATHER AT THE WOODHULL RACEWAY.

Kenny Peoples Jr. wins first ever 358 Modified feature

(Woodhull, NY)  Throughout his driving career, Mike Williams has found a home in the Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stock Division.  With a pair of track titles to his credit, Williams knows how to tackle the high banked one-third of a mile clay oval.  Heck, the guy literally grew up at the facility once owned by his Grandfather and parents.  The Jim Williams Memorial Race is traditionally held the last Saturday in June each season at the Woodhull Raceway.  More than anything else, Mike Williams wanted to win the event badly and last Saturday his hard work and patience finally paid off as he was the winner of the make-up feature in the Jim Williams Memorial event.  For Williams, it was an emotional victory lane as he won the biggest race in his career to the cheers of the huge crowd in attendance.

“I’ve won a lot of races and championships before, but this trophy is something I wanted more than anything else in racing, stated Williams in victory lane.  Dad, this one is for you.”

The victory puts Mike Williams in the season ending Morgan’s Auto Repair Race of Champions event, but it did not come easy as he had to hold off a late race rally by both Russ Morseman and Brett Marlatt to claim the win.  Teddy Morseman Jr. was fourth with Joe Layfield rounding out the top five.

In other Instant Heat Wood Pellets and Spiegel Recycling make-up feature action Donnie Lawson found victory lane for the second time in 2K10 with his win in the S&W Awards and Photos Crate Sportsman Divison.  Lawson did not waste anytime moving to the front in the caution filled event and once at the point left everyone racing for second place.  Casey Pavlick made some nifty moves coming thru traffic to claim the runner-up spot at the checkered chased there by Art Goodier, A.J. Potrzebowski and Eric Delong

The LaBarron Brothers Repair and Parts Front Wheel Drive Class then took to the high banked one third of a mile clay oval for their make-up feature with Ronnie Hill charging to his fourth feature event of 2010.  Jamie Freeman once again had to play the brides maid role as he settled for second at the line chased there by Mark Schenck, early race leader Matt Prescott and Steve Gee.

With three of the Instant Heat Wood Pellets and Spiegel Recycling  Jim Williams Memorial make-up feature events into the record books it then was into a regular show with the Colonial Hotel on board as the nightly event sponsor.  Even though the car counts in the Insinger Performance 358 Modified Division has been off a bit this season the level of competition has been at a fever pitch and last Saturday was no different.  Kenny Peoples Jr. was chosen at the start of the season to pilot the Herbie Wright owned machine and thus far the chemistry has worked as the second generation pilot from Addison, NY has been running at the front of the field most of the season.  With a good upfront starting spot Peoples Jr. was able to withstand relentless pressure from Frank Dunning and several late race yellow flags to claim his first ever victory in a 358 Modified.  It was a mob scene in victory lane as the popular driver has a huge following of both family and fans at the track including his father Kenny Sr. who was also in the event.  Dunning did settle for the runner up spot followed by Billy VanPelt who came from the rear of the field twice, Stacy Jackson and Ray Bliss Jr.  Dale Welty, Kevin Chilson, Kenny Peoples Sr., Lee Bills and Ronnie White rounded the top ten.

Qualifying heat races were claimed by Peoples Jr. and VanPelt.

In the NAPA 360 Late Model Division Greg Galligan made it three wins on the 2010 campaign as he made some great moves coming thru traffic, missed a major wreck on the front straight and once in front held off a determined Glen Whritenour to find victory lane.  Early race leader, Jason Knowles appeared to have the fastest car, but a flat left rear tire while leading ended any chance he had of winning his first ever at Woodhull.  Rookie driver, Danny Gardner looked poised to win his first feature of the season, however near the half way portion he slowed dramatically exiting turn four and with the field bearing down was clobbered from the rear by several competitors sending last weeks feature winner, Steve Watson sailing thru the air and Brian Knowles in the front stretch concrete with severe front end damage.  As the race resumed Galligan too control of the event and never looked back as Whritenour finishing second, Larry Knowles third, Josh Smith fourth and Cecil LaBarron fifth.  Rookie competitor, Tony Foth put on a steady drive to finish sixth followed by Carl Hills, Mick Seeley, Tim Schram and Scott Plank.

Heat wins went to Brian Knowles and Whritenour.

Don Lawson still knows a thing or two about how to tame the Woodhull Raceway.  With a long night of racing and the surface tightening up track conditions played right into the hands of the Woodhull veteran as he cruised to his first feature of the season.  It was a big night for the Lawson family as son Donnie won the make-up earlier in the night and Big Daddy Don winning the night cap.  Try as he night Bob Johnson could not muster the speed to catch the high flying Lawson as he had to settle  for second place followed by Eric Delong, Zach Sutton and Donnie Lawson.  Art Goodier led the charge of the next group of five across the line followed by A.J. Potrzebowski, A.J. Costley. Grant Hilfiger and Bill Brewer.

Heat wins were claimed by Donnie Lawson, Costley and Brewer.

Jeredd Dennis has had nothing but mechanical problems the past month washing out more than one competitive run in the Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stock Division.  However, Dennis was able to put it all together in the regular feature to claim his third feature victory of the year.  Once Dennis was in the lead he opened up an insurmountable advantage over the field and cruised to the win. Harry Vosburg had his best finish of the season finishing second followed by Joe Layfield, Jeff Smith and Brett Marlatt.  Russ Morseman was sixth followed by Butch Dibble, Rich Crego, Kane Stebbins and Chuck Pruden.

Ron Daily Jr. has made a habit of winning features in the Signs Plus of Kanona Mini Stock Class in 2K10 and this past week was no exception as Daily used a rash of yellow flags to move to the front of the field and win feature number eight on the season thus extending his point lead.  The battle behind Daily was a classic with numerous different drivers battling for second place on back and at the finish it was Brian Grant Jr. holding on for the runner-up spot followed by Ed Mills Jr., Brandon Martin who came from last to fourth and Tom Klientop.  Jason Ketrow roared back to sixth after an early race flat tire, Brett Crawford came from the back at least twice to claim seventh, Ray Hyer was next across the line with Colton Chappius and Jake Evingham rounding the top ten.

Earlier evening heat wins were claimed by Brandon Morseman and Ketrow.

The B-Boys were back in full force last week in the LaBarron Brothers Repair and Parts Front Wheel Drive Division and Mark Schenck wasted little time finding victory lane and for the popular Jasper, NY speedster it was a one/two knockout punch as his teammate, Ronnie Hills finished second capping off a great night for both drivers.  The third member of the group and defending track champion Gary Baker was eliminated for the night in the make-up feature after a hard crash dashing any hopes of a B-Car sweep of the top three spots.  Jamie Freeman was once again a picture of consistency as he finished third followed by Cody Baker and Adam Delgrosso.  Steve Gee came across the line next followed by Matt Prescott, Allison Pierce, Wesley Houghtaling and Scott Wedd.

Next week on July 10 it will be Jim Williams Memorial make-up features in the 358 Modifieds and the Mini Stocks followed by a Regular Big 6 Show with Troupscreek Auto and the Gunlocke Company on board as the nightly event sponsors.

MOTHER NATURE ONCE AGAIN DETERMINES OUTCOME OF EVENTS AT THE WOODHULL RACEWAY.

Steve Watson wins 360 LM feature, remainder of events fogged out.

(Woodhull, NY)  It has been a summer of frustration for those involved at the Woodhull Raceway as weather related issues have been the name of the game in 2010.  Saturday, June 26 was no exception as Mother Nature once again reared her bad side as a heavy down pour late in the afternoon set the tone for the night of action.

With a huge crowd in attendance for the Annual Jim Williams Memorial Races and Fireworks Show the races started late due to the heavy rain storm that left the track a quagmire.  After two hours of drying and packing, the surface was race ready and with some 130 cars pit side in Woodhull’s regular six classes of competition the racing was fast and furious.  After the qualifying heats and consolation events the determination was made to re-groom the high banked corners of the one-third mile clay oval for better feature event action and it proved to be a wise move as the 24 car NAPA 360 Late Model field put on a terrific show from start to finish.

Bruce Miller made a bold statement last week by winning the Scott Dennison Memorial and once again this week he blasted thru the field to take the early race lead.  Miller opened an insurmountable lead over the second and third place running machines of Jeremy Wonderling and Steve Watson.   On lap 22 and with the leaders in heavy lap traffic Millers potent machine began to slow with Wonderling and Watson now on the leaders rear spoiler and entering turn three contact was made between Wonderling and Miller with Millers car ending on its top.  After the second generation pilot from Wellsville was removed from his car it was determined that he was slowing from a soft tire, however Wonderling was sent to the rear because of his involvement and Steve Watson inherited the lead.  On the re start Watson of  Coudersport, Pa was able to hold a late race rally by Glen Whritenour to claim his second feature win of 2K10 at Woodhull.

Brian Knowles was able to hold off his father, Larry Knowles for third with Greg Galligan rounding the top five.  Wayne Robertson led the second group of five across the line chased there by John Waters, Tony Harris, Josh Smith and Tony Foth. It was a blanket finish as less that a second separated the top five at the checkered flag.

Earlier evening qualifying heat races were won by Cecil LaBarron, Brady Wonderling and Glen Whritenour with Carl “Sparky” Hills claiming the consolation event.

At the conclusion of the NAPA 360 LM feature the thousands of fans in attendance were treated to an awesome fireworks extravaganza, unfortunately heavy fog began to roll in part way thru the fireworks display which caused havoc with the electronics used to detonate the charges and dampening many of the un-shot displays.

After the lights were brought back-up the 358 Modifieds were summoned onto the track to try and lift the heavy fog, however after several tries prior to the start of the 25 lap feature event it was determined that visibility was not adequate to continue and the remainder of the show was scrubbed.

As the Woodhull faithful exited the track several fans were heard to comment on how once again the track has been dealt a bad hand by the continual poor weather experienced most every Saturday night thus far during the 2K10 race season.

At press time no determination has been made as to the remainder of the 5 features to be made up including regular feature events in the 358 Modifieds, Crate Sportsman, Street, Mini and Front Wheel Drive Divisions.

Next Saturday Woodhull will open the month of July with a Regular Big 6 Show as the Spaulding Foundation for Injured Drivers will be onboard.

Bruce Miller Cruises to Victory in the Scott Dennison Memorial for 360 Late Models at Woodhull Raceway

Woodhull, NY…  The threat of thunderstorms couldn’t keep 120 race teams and a multitude of fans from paying tribute to former 360 Late Model driver Scott Dennison on RLB Trucking night.  Dennison lived his life fast and furious and twenty-five of the best 360 Late Model drivers in the area waged battle for the prestigious trophy that bears his name.

Fans rose to their feet as the 24 car field of NAPA 360 Late Models performed their parade lap in four-wide fashion with the pole position left empty in honor of their fallen competitor, Scott Dennison.  When the field returned to two-wide formation, Tony Harris and Buck Payne led the pack to the drop of starter Scott Colegrove’s green flag.  Bruce Miller wasted no time hustling from his 4th starting position to the lead on lap two, powering by Mikey Wonderling to gain the top spot.  Jeremy Wonderling quickly moved by Mikey as well and set sail for Miller’s back bumper.  Early caution flags slowed the pace, including a tangle between Mikey Wonderling and Wayne Robertson which sent Wonderling to the pits on the hook and relegated Robertson to the rear of the field after changing a flat right rear.  This put defending track champ Glenn Whritenour in the thick of things, running a close third to Miller and Jeremy Wonderling.    By lap twelve, Miller had opened up a sizeable lead over Wonderling and Whritenour, with Adam Ashcroft riding fourth.  Greg Galligan made some smooth moves and climbed into the top five after starting in the rear of the field.  A few more yellows kept the leaders bunched together and allowed Robertson to slice his way through the field and back into the top five on lap twenty-one.  Meanwhile Miller remained in command, holding off charges from Wonderling on each restart.  As Miller stretched his lead, Robertson took advantage of a Galligan miscue in turn four to grab fourth, with Wonderling and Whritenour just ahead.  Caution flew once again with three laps remaining, and Miller’s machine seemed to be picking up a push in the middle of the turns after the ensuing restart.  Try as he may, Wonderling was not able to match the straight stretch speed of Miller and couldn’t quite take advantage of Miller’s handling issues as Miller powered his way to his first win at the high banks of Woodhull this season.  Wonderling capped of a strong run with hi s second place finish with Whritenour crossing the stripe in third.  Robertson’s charge would end in a fourth place showing, with Galligan taking home a solid fifth.

Kenny Peoples Jr. used his pole position start to snag the early lead in the Insinger Performance 358 Modified division with Ray Bliss Jr. right on his heels.  Bliss was able to muscle the lead away from Peoples on lap six, but the man on the move was defending track champion Billy VanPelt who was already riding fourth.  By lap eight, VanPelt used the high groove to motor by Dale Welty and was able to dispose of Peoples just two laps later.  Bliss made a slight bobble in turn four on lap 14, which allowed VanPelt to get along side and battle for real estate.  After four thrilling laps of side-by-side action, VanPelt was able to pull the slide job on Bliss and set sail for his seventh feature win of the 2010 season.  Bliss was able to hang tight for second, as Peoples did for third.  Dale Welty checked in another solid run in fourth, with 2009 Rookie of the Year Joe Dgien crossing the stripe in fifth.

Another full field of the S&W Awards Crate Sportsman cars were led early on by Bob Johnson with 14 year old rookie Connor Brown riding in second.  By lap three, Eric Delong had worked by Brown and made his move entering turn three to take the lead away from Johnson.  Johnson battled back, as Brown and Nate Delong watched from behind.  On lap fourteen, Eric Delong’s bid for his first feature win came to an abrupt end as he lost the handle exiting turn four, spinning himself around and taking Brown with him.  On the ensuing restart, Nate Delong muscled his way under Johnson to wrangle the lead away as defending track champ Donnie Lawson now rode third. Lawson soon worked his was by Johnson and set up a thrilling battle in the final laps with Delong.  The two former feature winners worked each other over, trading lanes and paint numerous times in the closing circuits.  As the white flag fell, Lawson made on last dive under Delong entering turn one, pulling along side the leader as the drag raced down the back stretch.  Lawson held the preferred line as they entered turn three and was able to claim his first feature win at the high backs this season.  Delong finished disappointed in second, with Johnson hanging on for third.  AJ Costley put together his best run of the season by finishing fourth, with Roger Williams rounding out the top five.

Mike Williams led the better portion of the Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stock division, only to dart to the pits with mechanical issues just as Russell Morseman III pulled along side.  With the lead firmly in hand, Morseman fended off numerous charges from Brett Marlatt to pick up his 4th win of the year.  Marlatt stayed close for second, with Ted Morseman, Kane Stebbins and Joe Layfield filling in the top five.

Rich Sharpsteen took full advantage of his front row starting position in the Signs Plus Mini Stocks, leading the feature from flag to flag to chalk up his third win of the season. Current high point man Ron Dailey Jr. managed to weave his way through the field from 19th to claim second.  Jason Warner and Brian Grant Jr. both tallied up their best runs of the season, finishing third and fourth respectively.  Tracy Dunn ran up front the entire race and crossed the stripe in fifth.

Jamie Freeman solidified his point lead in the LaBarron brothers FWD division by piling on win number four of the season.  Steve Gee continues to look strong, bringing home second.  Ron Hill was next across the line in third, with Wesley Houghtaling and Brandon Brewer having their best runs of the season in fourth and fifth.

Nest week the sky lights up with the most spectacular fireworks display in the area as Instant Heat Wood Pellets and Spiegel Recycling present the Jim Williams Memorial trophy races for all six divisions.

Bob Davis wins first Small Block Modified feature in last five seasons at the Woodhull Raceway as his nephew Bryce Davis wins 360 LM thriller.

VanPelt, Dunning, Marlatt and Daily also find victory lane.

(Woodhull, NY)  With numerous rain storms dotting the upstate New York region all day long, Wednesday, June 16 found a rare mid-week event at the Woodhull Raceway with the Davis family standing in victory lane on two separate occasions.  For Bob Davis it was a highly popular victory as the Jasper, NY speedster won the second leg of the Triple 15 lap feature format for the Open Small Block Modifieds. Davis had called it quits a few seasons ago and sold all of his equipment, however after coaxing from his numerous family members and close friends he returned to action mid-way thru the 2009 season. For the former Woodhull Raceway IMCA Modified Track Champion it turned out to be a smart move as he won easily over several of the tracks heavy weights including second place runner, Ray Bliss Jr., Frank Dunning, Mike Bills, Billy VanPelt and Crate Sportsman standout competitor, Donnie Lawson.  In the other two 15 lap feature events it was Billy VanPelt picking up his sixth feature of 2010 in the opening 15 lap affair followed by Dunning, Steve Hartman Jr., Bliss and Dale Welty.  In the third and final feature go it was Stunning Frank Dunning capping off a brilliant night as he held off a late race rally by invader, Jim Mahaney, Bliss, Crate Sportsman driver, Ray Smith and Welty.

Early evening qualifying heat races were won by Dave Dubois, Ron White and Dale Welty.

The Davis family was not thru yet as Bryce Davis of Canisteo was victorious in the NAPA 360 LM feature event and for the second generation pilot and nephew of Bob Davis it was a very hard fought win as he started last in the 25 lap feature event.  For the former Woodhull Raceway Warrior Division Track Champion it had been a very long dry spell as he and the team had struggled with chassis set-up issues since his Rookie of the Year season some four years ago.  However, Bryce Davis was not to be denied on this night as he quickly moved to the front of the pack and never looked back.  He was followed across the line by veteran competitor, Cecil LaBarron, Glen Whritenour, Randy Hall and Jeremy Wonderling.

Qualifying heat wins went to Jeremy Wonderling and Greg Galligan.

Brett Marlatt and Bryce Davis are close friends.  They grew up together, played high school sports together and graduated from Canisteo High School together. Both young men are class acts and come from good families so it should have come as no surprise that Brett Marlatt would want to visit the same victory lane that his friend Bryce Davis had done some thirty minutes earlier. That turned out to be the case as Marlatt picked-up his fourth win of 2010 in the Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stock Class.  For Marlatt it was a struggle to pass and then hold off a determined rookie in Teddy Morseman with Joe Layfield, Jeredd Dennis and Russ Morseman III rounding the top five.

Heat wins went to Marlatt and Morseman III.

Ron Daily Jr. for the seventh time in 2K10 showed his mastery of the Woodhull Raceway  high banked one third of a mile as he started near the tail of the twenty-one car feature and with the help of no yellow flags made a last lap pass of then race leader, Rich Sharpsteen II.  Brandon Morseman, Bubba VanCise and Brett Crawford trailed Daily across the line.

Earlier evening heat wins were claimed by Ron Daily Jr., Brandon Morseman and Chris Woodard.

WOODHULL RACEWAY FINDS MULTIPLE FEATURE WINNERS GRACE VICTORY LANE.

(Woodhull, NY)  With another full night of racing on the card, several repeat winners found victory lane at the Woodhull Raceway last Saturday night.  In the made-up 25 lap 358 Modified feature held over from May 22, sponsored by Kibbe Concrete and Bully Hill Vineyards Forest City, Pa. speedster, Dan Vauter was able to shake the demons that have plagued him all season long to win his first feature of the season.  With only two yellow flags to slow the pace, Vauter was not to be denied as he held off a late race rally by Joe Dgien to pick up the victory.  Stacy Jackson finished third followed by Lee Bills and Ron White.  Dave Dubois led the charge of the second group of five across the line chased there by Frank Dunning, Ray Dann, Kevin Chilson and Brian Doolittle.

Then it was into the Regular Big 6 Show presented by Mt. Dew where Billy VanPelt was able to secure his fifth trip to victory lane in 2K10 in the insinger Performance 358 Modified Division as he quickly worked his way to the front and once there clearly dominated the 25 car, 25 lap affair.  Steve Hartman Jr. had to settle for the brides maid position followed by Joe Dgien, Dale Welty and Bob Davis.  Ron White was sixth followed by early race leader, Tim Guild, Dave Dubois, Brent Boyer and Lucas Schroth.

Qualifying heat events went to Dubois, Guild and Ray Bliss Jr.

In the NAPA 360 LM Class, Greg Galligan and Glenn Whritenour were the class of the field as the two veterans put on a driving clinic as the pair distanced themselves from the remainder of the field.  A rare mid race miscue by then race leader Whritenour allowed Galligan to get by and he led the remainder of the event for his second consecutive visit to victory lane.  Whritenour steeled for the runner-up spot followed by a steadily improving Cecil LaBarron, Brian Knowles with Josh Smith coming home for fifth.  Wally Wade, Shane Smith, Dan Gardner, Sparky Hills and Fred Amann rounded the top ten.

Heat wins went to Jeremy Wonderling and Galligan.

Zach Sutton used the top of the banking to his advantage as he claimed his second victory of the year in the S&W Awards and Photos Crate Sportsman Division.  Early race leader, Ryan Tracy looked poised to win his first ever feature event at the age of fourteen, but could not hold off the high flying Sutton.  Two time and defending champion, Donnie Lawson was able to squeak by Tracy in the closing laps to finish second with Tracy third.  Bob Johnson ran with the lead group all race long to nail down the fourth spot followed by a Nate Delong.  A.J. Costley came home sixth chased there by Ajay Potrzebowski, Don Lawson, Chris Silvers and Ray Smith.

Heat wins went to Sutton, Potrzebowski and Roger Williams.

With rain threatening the Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stocks took to the high banks of the Woodhull Raceway and it turned out to be an all Moresman affair.  Teddy Morseman Jr. in just his rookie season looked poised to win his second feature of the year, however cousin Russ Morseman III had other ideas and after a spirited battle for several laps, Russ was able to take over the top spot and win by a convincing margin.  Teddy did settle for second place followed by Mr. Consistency Jeff Smith, Jaredd Dennis and Brett Marlatt.  Joe Layfield led the second group of five across the line followed by Mike Williams, Harry Vosburg, Brian Butler and Cliff Moss.  In victory lane a very emotional Russ Morseman dedicated the win to his close friend, Lance Corporal Michael Plank who recently lost his life while defending our country in Afghanistan.

Earlier evening qualifying heat events were claimed by Marlatt and Russ Morseman III.

Ron Daily Jr. continued his complete dominance of the Signs Plus Mini Stock Division by picking up win number six on the 2010 campaign.  Daily quickly moved thru the field and once at the point checked out on the rest of the field including second place finisher, Ed Mills Jr.  Brandon Morseman was third followed by Chris Woodard, Jason Warner, Jason Ketrow, Tracy Dunn, JR. Hoppe, Aaron Bartas with Brian Grant Jr. rounding out the top ten.

Heat wins were claimed by Morseman, Woodard and Daily.

The LaBarron Brothers Repair and Parts Front Wheel Drive Division’s car count continue to rise, however it was main stays Ronnie Hill and Steve Gee once again dominating the 25 lap event.  Gee was poised to make yet another trip to victory lane, however Hill was not to be denied as he rallied late with only a couple of laps remaining to pass Gee and pick up his third win of 2K10.

Tim Steffey had a good run to finish third, Cody Baker was fourth and Wesley Houghtaling had the best run of his career finishing fifth.  Matt Prescott was next chased there by Brandon Brewer, Jeremy Seeley, Trevor Tompkins and Carl LaBarron.

Last but certainly not least the Mid-State Vintage Cars made their first of two appearances on the high banks of the Woodhull Raceway in the 2010 season.  The lone qualifying heat event was won by Ron Casti and in their fifteen lap feature Jim Hilimire completely dominated the event to claim the win in his division.  Other class winners included Al Byerly and Gordie “The Dude” Wood.

This coming Saturday, June 19 it is the Annual Scott Dennison Memorial for the NAPA 360 LM Division with $1,000 to win, $600 in posted contingencies and some $3,000 in lap money.  Also on the card it will be a regular show of the 358 Modifieds, Crate Sportsman, Street, Mini and Front Wheel Drive Classes.  Gates at 4:30 and racing at 6:30.  For more information go to www.woodhullracewaycom.

THE WOODHULL VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT RECEIVES “RESCUE SQUAD” COMPLIMENTS OF THE WOODHULL RACEWAY.

(Woodhull, NY)  Woodhull Raceway track owner, Ted White knows full well the importance of the Woodhull Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Corps. to the success of the track.  For over four and a half decades the dedicated men and women of the local volunteer fire and ambulance department have given of their time to ensure the safety of the drivers, fans and employees of the popular Steuben County oval.

According to White, “Each year the ownership of the track has made a monetary donation to the Woodhull Volunteers as a show of good faith for all their efforts.  We also let the fire department handle the chicken bar-b-q at the Annual Jim Williams Memorial Event and Fireworks Show each season.  This also helps generate much needed funds for the Woodhull Fire Company.  However, I wanted do something real special for the men and women who give of themselves each and every race night not only to help at the track, but also they put their own safety on the line every time they respond to an alarm.”

White along with his girl friend, Brandi McCutchen just recently took purchase of a used ambulance which by all standards is in excellent condition.  They will donate the unit to the Woodhull Volunteer Fire Department for their use as a rescue squad.  An agreement between the WVFD and the Woodhull Raceway will find the fire company responsible for the road worthiness and maintenance of the vehicle and that it is to be present at each race event.

For all practical purposes this is a win, win situation for all concerned.  The track now has a much needed rescue unit to replace the older, worn out ambulance and the WVFD now has a new addition to their fleet of fire and rescue equipment.

WOODHULL RACEWAY’S SCOTT DENNISON MEMORIAL EVENT FOR THE NAPA 360 LATE MODELS JUST GOT BETTER.

$3,000 in lap money to bolster an already hefty purse.

(Woodhull, NY)  Thanks to several friends of the late Scott Dennison, a record breaking $3,000 in lap money will be distributed to numerous different drivers during the annual running of the Dennison Memorial 360 Late Model Special event, scheduled for Saturday, June 19 at the Woodhull Raceway.

“I was told this week that $3,000 was secured in lap money for the Annual Scott Dennison Memorial for the NAPA 360 Late Models, stated Woodhull Raceway Director of Public Relations and Media, Kenny Shupp Jr.”  Add that to the extra cash that Doug Gross Construction is pumping into the event and now we are talking some huge money for the racers.  There is no doubt that this year’s running of the Scott Dennison Memorial will be our biggest yet and with all the loot being offered it will most definitely get the attention of every 360 Late Model driver in the region.”

Plans are uncertain at this time, however in past years the lap money was distributed throughout the field allowing most every driver that qualifies for the event a lap money envelope at the end of the night.

Larry and Janice Knowles of Doug Gross have supported this event since it began.  The added funds that they appropriate for the show is distributed in numerous ways.  Some of the money is put on the winners share making it a cool $1,000 to win the feature.  Over the years the rest of the money has gone out to racers in numerous different ways including heat win money, hard luck, hard charger, best move, longest haul, etc. etc.

“The track leaves all that up to Larry and Janice on how they want to distribute the money.  Every penny they put into this goes right back to the drivers.  They are very creative on how the money gets dispersed and generally speaking numerous different drivers share in the royalties.” The Woodhull Raceway isn’t interested in making money off the sponsors of this event.  Everything goes back to the drivers and that is what makes the Scott Dennison Memorial such a huge event.” That once again is according to Shupp.

Additionally, the ownership of the Woodhull Raceway annually donates money into the Scott Dennison Irreversible Trust Fund which is established for the two remaining daughters of Scott Dennison.

In addition to the Scott Dennison Memorial for the Napa 360 Late Model Division it will be a regular show of the Insinger Performance 358 Modifieds, the S&W Awards and Photos Crate Sportsman, the Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stocks along with the Signs Plus Mini Stocks and the LaBarron Brothers Repair and Parts Front Wheel Drive Divisions.

Gates for the June 19 event open at 4:30 with racing at 6:30 pm.

Kenny Shupp's 6/6 Race Report

VanPelt and Potrzebowski both Snag Win Number Four at Woodhull Raceway;

Galligan and Williams Make First Visit to Victory Lane

Woodhull, NY…  As a massive storm front skirted the southern edges of the tiny southern NY town of Woodhull, 109 race cars created a whirlwind of their own as fans were treated to eight feature events on Brico Technologies night.  It was also Woodhull’s annual Fireman’s Appreciation night, as track owner Ted White and the Woodhull Raceway staff rolled out the red carpet to honor the volunteer firemen, EMTs and First Responders from all over the southern tier of New York and the northern tier of Pennsylvania.

First to roll out onto the clay was the S&W Awards Crate Sportsman division for their make-up race from the rained out May 22nd show.  Chris Silvers and Casey Pavlick dueled door to door early in the race, but contact between the two sent Silvers to the pits with broken equipment and put Pavlick to the rear of the field, which handed the top spot over to Mike Buchanan.  By lap 12, point leader Ajay Potrzebowski had motored his way through traffic and wrestled the lead from Buchanan.  From there, it was smooth sailing for Potrzebowski, racking up his fourth feature win of the 2010 season and solidifying his point lead.  Art Goodier put together another strong run, getting Buchanan late in the race to cross the stripe in second, with Buchanan hanging tight for third.

The Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stocks also had a rain make-up event, and it was Joe Layfield taking home the checkers.  Top point men Russell Morseman and Brett Marlatt gave Layfield all he could handle, but had to settle for second and third respectively.  Jaredd Dennis kept up his string of top five finishes by riding home in fourth and Mike Williams held on with a flat right rear on the final circuit to get fifth.

Billy VanPelt has made a career out of visiting victory lane at Woodhull Raceway, and Saturday night was classic “Billy the Kid” as VanPelt charged his way through the field to chalk up win number four of the season.  Ray Bliss Jr. and Mike Bills jockeyed for the top spot in the first 18 laps of the contest, but VanPelt took command in the 19th go-round, leaving Bliss with the bridesmaid position and Bills a season-best third.  Kevin Chilson ran up front all night long and posted a solid fourth, with Bills’ Starkey motorsports teammate Dave Dubois rounding out the top five.

Greg Galligan took advantage of an outside front row starting spot to bolt to the lead at the drop of the green and not look back, laying claim to his first feature win in 2010.  Galligan opened up a sizeable lead early in the race, so by the time point leader Glenn Whritenour made it to the second spot, he was out of time to catch Galligan for the checkers.  Cecil LeBarron continues to get his program on track, taking home a fine third place finish.  Freddy Amann continues to improve as well, clicking across the stripe a few feet ahead of Brian Knowles to grab fourth.

AJ Costley led the first handful of laps in the regular event for the S&W Crate Sportsman division and was looking to run away with his first-ever victory.  Former 358 Modified wheelman Roger Williams had other ideas though, and slid by Costley on lap six for the top spot.  Williams kept his familiar #16 machine steady in the middle groove of the speedway, as Nate Delong and Donnie Lawson also set Costley aside in their quest for Williams’ position.  “Rocket Roger” showed the poise of a crafty veteran, as Delong couldn’t shake him from his line or deny him his first trip to victory lane in quite a few years.  Lawson was closely in tow, crossing in third.  Art Goodier made it two top-five finishes on the night by snagging fourth.

It looked as if Jaredd Dennis was going to add another win to his 2010 season highlights, but a hard dive into turn one on the final lap by defending track champion Russell Morseman took both cars from contention.  As a result, the checkers waved for a third time this season for Brett Marlatt.  Joe Layfield followed up his win from earlier in the evening with a solid second place showing, and veteran Jeff Smith overcame a bad wreck in the Memorial Day special, and a week’s worth of damage repairs, to earn third.

Ron Dailey Jr. galloped his potent Mustang into victory lane for the fifth time this season in the Signs Plus of Kanona Mini Stock division.  Rich Sharpsteen gave a spirited chase until his power plant let go, leaving Ed Mills to chase Dailey’s bumper and race home for second.  Chris Woodard followed Mills in third, with Jason Ketrow finally getting something other than bad luck by claiming fourth.

Allison Pierce got the jump on the LaBarron Brothers FWD field and led the early portion of their feature.  Point leader Jamie Freeman worked hard to find a line around Pierce, but he finally got the daylight he needed to make the pass and claim the checkers.  Pierce held tight in second, for her best run of the season, with Jimmy Howard next across the stripe in third.

Next week, Mountain Dew welcomes Woodhull’s regular six divisions as well as the Mid-Sate Vintage Stock Cars.  The teams also begin gearing up for a special Wednesday night show, slated for June 16th, which will feature triple 15 lap features for the 358 modifieds.

THE WOODHULL RACEWAY GEARS UP FOR WHAT WILL BE THE LARGEST FIREWORKS EXTRAVAGANZA EVER HELD AT THE TRACK.

June 26 is the date for the Annual Jim Williams Memorial Races, chicken b-b-q and fireworks show.

(Woodhull, NY)  Woodhull Raceway owner, Ted White is staking his claim that this years Jim Williams Memorial Races and Fireworks Extravaganza will be the best yet.

For the racers beautiful trophies will be presented to the feature winners in each class as well as specially made plaques for each qualifying heat race winner in all six of Woodhull’s Regular Classes.

That is just the beginning as White has made arrangements with the folks from Galeton, Pa. to put together a fireworks extravaganza to top all other fireworks shows ever staged at the historic Steuben County oval.

“I have been working very closely with former track owner, Scott Drake on this year’s fireworks program.  Jim Williams started this way back when, the Drakes moved it to the next level and now we want to make it even bigger.  The fireworks show at the Woodhull Raceway attracts spectators from all across the region.  People move their campers in a week before the event.  Every seat is taken an hour after the gates open, but there is always room for everyone.  The Woodhull Fire Department sells a thousand chicken dinners before race time.  The racing is great and then after dark the real fun will begin.”  That according to Ted White.

Make your plans now to be a part of the areas largest fireworks event, the Annual Jim Williams Memorial, June 26, 2010 at the Woodhull Raceway.

Pre-event ticket sales will begin on Saturday June 12 and June 19 at the track during regular race hours. One day reserved seating just for the June 26 event will be available at the track from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at the track the day of the event.  Those wishing to reserve a seat just for the night are encouraged to bring a blanket, plastic or cardboard as well as duct tape to securely fasten it to the wooden bleachers.  Reserved seating is $5.00 for the night.

WOODHULL RACEWAY TO PRESENT WEDNESDAY NIGHT SPECIAL ON JUNE 16, 2010

Open Small Block Modifieds to run triple 15 lap features. The 360 LM, Street Stocks and Mini Stocks are also on the card.

(Woodhull, NY)  As part of the 2010 schedule events at the Woodhull Raceway the track has included two Wednesday night special events with the first happening on June 16.

In 2009 the track experienced a large number of Saturday night rainouts prompting former owner, Vern Wasson to make a bold move and schedule a rare mid-week event to try and make-up for some of the lost Saturday events.  With little notice the plan was put into motion with a huge fan base and over 40 Small Block Modifieds in attendance plus a full supporting cast.  As they say, the rest is history and with that thought 2010 will see the return of a pair of Wednesday shows.

On June 16 the Open Small Block Modifieds will headline the event running a triple 15 lap feature format.  Also in action it will be a regular show of the NAPA 360 Late Models, the Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stocks as well as the Signs Plus of Kanona Mini Stock Divisions.

“With this being a work day event our goal is to get everyone in and out of here at a descent hour.  The format will such that the Open Small Block racers will have time between feature events to work on their cars; however we will keep things moving along to complete the show in a timely manner.”  That according to track owner, Ted White.

Gates open on June 16 at 4:30 pm.

The Whitesville House located on Main Street in downtown Whitesville, NY will be onboard to sponsor the event.

“STUNNING” FRANK DUNNING GETS FIRST 358 WIN OF THE SEASON AT THE WOODHULL RACEWAY.  BRADY WONDERLING FINDS VICTORY LANE IN 360 LM DIVISION.

Billy VanPelt, Ajay Potrzebowski, Russ Morseman, Ron Daily Jr., Steve Gee and Ronnie Hill all become multiple winners in 2K10 at Woodhull.

(Woodhull, NY)  After fighting Mother Nature throughout most of the 2010 race season, fans and competitors were treated to an absolutely perfect night for race action this past Saturday at the Woodhull Raceway.  The running of the Annual George Williams Memorial Races found over 130 cars checking into the pit area for the night of action and the huge crowd in attendance was able to get their fix of racing with eight features on the night.

When Woodhull owner, Ted White purchased the track in the latter part of 09 he immediately disbanded his regular Saturday night race operation which included the team drivers of Billy and Curt VanPelt.  For older brother Curt, it meant semi-retirement, but for Billy it meant an opportunity to drive for another race team.  Long time Woodhull competitor and successful local businessman, Kevin Chilson immediately signed BVP on to join Frank Dunning as his team drivers and thus far in 2010 the results have been staggering.  In the first scheduled 20 lap 358 Modified feature, VanPelt worked his way from mid-pack to take the lead late in the race and cruise to his third win of the season.  He was followed across the line by Dunning, Stacy Jackson, Kenny Peoples Jr., Kevin Chilson, Ronnie White, Brian Doolittle, Ray Bliss Jr., Dave Dubois and Steve Hartman Jr.

With an invert of the top eighteen positions for the second 20 lap feature all eyes were on the back of the starting grid as most of Woodhull’s heavy hitters were poised to make a mad dash to the front.  From the opening green the fans were not disappointed as Frank Dunning put on a driving clinic from his seventeenth starting spot to take the lead from Ronnie White late in the event and post his first feature win in almost two years at New York’s Toughest Dirt Bull Ring.  White, who lead most of the event after taking the lead from Steve Hartman Sr. could not hold off the high flying Stunning Dunning who capped off a great night with a win and a second place finish.  Dunning was chased across the line by White, Steve Hartman Jr., Steve Hartman Sr., and Dan Vauter.  VanPelt led the charge of the second group of five across the line followed by Tim Guild, Stacy Jackson, Kevin Chilson with Dale Welty finishing in the tenth spot.  Qualifying heat races were won by Billy VanPelt, Dan Vauter and Kenny Peoples Jr.

Heading into the season, Scio, NY driver, Brady Wonderling found himself ride less until brother Jeremy told him to take controls of his primary machine while he shook down a brand new car.  After a spirited final ten lap side by side dual it was Brady picking up win number one of the year as he beat Jeremy in his new ride.  “I love a slick race track stated Brady Wonderling in victory lane after a hard fought battle with younger brother Jeremy.  I don’t know how long he will let me continue to drive his machine, but I’ll take it for as long as I can.”  Fred Amann lead the 22 car field to the opening green flag and led until well past the half way mark when he became surrounded by the Wonderling family including father Mike Sr.  For Amann it was a no win situation as he had Wonderling’s working him both high and low and he finally succumbed to the relentless pressure being put on his chances to win his first ever 360 LM feature event.  In the end it was the Wonderling Family sweeping three of the top four finish spots with

Mike Sr. finishing fourth.  Glen Whritenour rounded the top five followed closely by Steve Watson, Cecil LaBarron, Brian Knowles, Dan Gardner and Mick Seeley.

Earlier evening heat wins went to Watson, Knowles and Whritenour.

Ajay Potrzebowski made the move to the S&W Awards Crate Sportsman Division at Woodhull over the off season; a move that has been highly successful.  For Potrzebowski, his many years of pavement racing came into play as the track became hard and slick as the night wore on and Ajay knew exactly what he had to do to secure his second win of 2K10.  Don Lawson led from the opening green until he was overhauled near the mid race point by Casey Pavlick.  Pavlick looked poised to win his second feature of the season until a rash of yellow flags let several other players into the game.  In the end it was Ajay Potrzebowski picking up the win followed by Grant Hilfiger in his first trip to Woodhull this season.  Donnie Lawson rallied from an early race flat tire to finish third followed by Pavlick and Don Lawson.  Fifth thru tenth were Art Goodier, Bob Johnson, Zach Sutton, Nate Delong, Tony hooker and Brett Buono.

Heat wins were claimed by Bill Brewer, Don Lawson, Nate Delong and Ray Smith.

In the Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stock Division it was Russ Morseman III picking up win number two of 2K10, but it did not come easy as he had to race hard against his cousin, Teddy Morseman for the victory.  Early race leader, Jeff Smith ran a strong first half of the feature only to drift to third at the checkered followed by Mike Williams and Brett Marlatt who rounded the top five.  Brian Butler was next across the line followed by Butch Dibble, Joe Layfield, Daryl Miles and Rich Crego.

Heat wins went to Marlatt and Russ Morseman.

In the Signs Plus of Kanona feature event, Ron Daily Jr. had things well in hand by the mid race mark and cruised to his fourth win of the year.  Try as he might, Rich Sharpsteen II had nothing for the high flying Daily and had to settle for a well deserved second place finish followed by Chris Woodard, Ed Mills Jr. and Brandon Morseman.  Brandon Martin led the second group of five across the line followed by Rick McDaniels, John Hand Jr., Tracy Dunn and Robert Symonds.

Heat wins were claimed by Tracy Dunn and Ron Daily Jr.

Steve Gee continued his dominance in the LaBarron Brothers Repair and Parts Front Wheel Drive Class as he easily won the make-up feature from last week’s rainout.  For Gee is was win number four on the season as he was followed by Ron Hill, Cody Baker, Jamie Freeman and Nick Moorehouse.

In the regularly scheduled twenty five lap feature Ron Hill made it two trips to victory lane at Woodhull in “10” as he sped to the early lead and never looked back. After a nasty flip a few weeks ago, Adam DelGrosso came storming back to claim a well deserved runner-up finished followed by Jamie Freeman, Steve Gee and Jeremy Seeley.  Six thru ten were Brandon Brewer, Wesley Houghtaling, Adam Buckley, Nate Freeland and Cody Baker.

Next Saturday it will be the Annual Fireman’s Appreciation Night sponsored by BRICO Technologies of Elmira/Wellsville.  All card carrying fire department personnel are admitted into the track absolutely free and any fire departments are encouraged to bring and fire related equipment for display purposes.

Gates for the June 5 event open at 4:30 with racing at 6:30.

In addition to a Regular Big 6 Show the Crate Sportsman and Street Stocks will run make-up features from the May 22 rainout.  The 358 Modifieds are scheduled to run their May 22 rained out feature on Saturday, June 12.
