BRICO TECHNOLOGIES HELPS BRIAN SWARTHOUT TO A SOLID SUPER DIRT WEEK AT SYRACUSE .

(Beaver Dams, NY)  Any race car driver that has ever turned a lap on the mile track at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse , NY will tell you that communication and preparation are two keys to success.  Dubbed as The Moody Mile, the track is extremely fast with cars reaching break neck speeds.  It requires optimum driver concentration, the constant communication of spotters and crew members with the driver and a car that is well prepared to withstand the rigors of a track notorious for taking its toll on equipment.

With the high speeds attained things happen in a big hurry.  Front line teams turn laps in under 32 seconds around the one mile dirt oval and one miscue can spell doom.  Syracuse reeks havoc on men and equipment and it is critical for racers to be in radio communication with their spotters and crew members.

For Brian Swarthout of Beaver Dams, NY he was making his maiden voyage as a Big Block Modified competitor at the worlds richest dirt track event known as the VP Racing Fuels SEF 200.  In addition he was also attempting to qualify for the second time in the past three years for the 358 Modified Salute to the Troops 150 which is run as a preliminary event.  In both cases Swarthout was solid in putting each of his potent TEO Pro Cars into their respective races with impressive time trialing and qualifying race events.  After only 88 laps of the scheduled 150 lap 358 Modified main event he was knocked out with a drive shaft issue.  However, not to have their spirits dampened,  Swarthout and company bounced right back the following day with a solid seventeenth place finish in the Big Block Modified finale.  Even with brake problems slowing his pace over the last 50 miles, Brian Swarthout was able to complete his goal of qualifying and racing in both premier events.

Throughout the entire Super Dirt Week activities, Swarthout and his team were able to maintain radio communications with two way radios supplied by BRICO Technologies of Elmira and Wellsville , NY .

According to a spokes person of Swarthout Recycling Motorsports of Beaver Dams, NY, “We were able to keep constant track of everything that was going on both on and off the speedway with the Motorola Radios supplied by BRICO.  The crew members as well as the spotters walked Brian right thru the entire weekend.  To be successful at a place like Syracuse you need to have two radio communications and BRICO was a critical part of the team’s success.  There is no doubt that without the marketing support of Brian Adams, Kevin Kulish and all the technical staff at BRICO we would not have had the good runs that we did”.

BRICO Technologies is one of Upstate New York’s leading two way and wireless communication leaders supplying equipment and technology for numerous types of applications including Town, County and Village Highway Departments, fire and rescue squads, Marcellus Shale Drilling in Northern Tier of Pa. as well as countless other private and public sector groups.

SWARTHOUT RECYCLING MOTORSPORTS CAPS OFF A HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL SUPER DIRT WEEK.

(Beaver Dams, NY)  It was a very successful 40th Anniversary Super Dirt Week for Brian Swarthout and his race team as they returned home from Syracuse NY with an impressive 17th place finish in the world’s richest dirt track race event.  Swarthout, who was competing as a rookie in his first ever Big Block Modified event at the Moody Mile at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse was able to time trial inside the top thirty and then raced his way into the 200 lap event by finishing in the top ten in one of Friday nights 20 lap qualifying events.  Starting 27th in the VP Racing Fuels SEF 200, Swarthout was able to keep his nose relatively clean, stayed on the lead lap until the 185 mile mark and wound up 17th one lap down to race winner, Stewart Friesen.

As Brian Swarthout exited his TEO Pro Car, Finger Lakes powered machine after the grueling 200 mile marathon he was quick to thank his crew and sponsors for making his maiden voyage in the high profile event such a success.
“I couldn’t have done this without the support of my family, a dedicated crew, the expertise of Steve Payne as well as a tremendous group of marketing partners, stated an elated Brian Swarthout.  We had a great Big Block Modified car all week it showed today with a solid finish.”

Unfortunately, a broken front brake line at approximately the 150 lap mark kept Swarthout from having an even better finish.
“I had the brake issue for the final quarter of the race and I just couldn’t get the car into the corners the way I wanted to, however we were able to make good pit stops and took advantage of the yellow flags to stay with the leader’s right up until the last 15 or so laps.”

In addition to his top 20 run in Sunday’s Super Dirt Week finale he was one of a hand full of drivers to qualify a 358 Modified in Saturday’s Salute to the Troops 150. After struggling to find speed in the car all week he was able to finish well enough in his 20 lap qualifying event on Friday night to make the show, however a broken driveshaft on lap 88 was the demise of a good run.
“We just never had the 358 car up to its potential all week.  We got everything out of it that we could, but the drive shaft did us in.  Still I’m elated with the weekend overall.  We went there much better prepared than last year, better organized, a new Big Block Engine and a freshened up TEO Chassis for the Big Block and it all paid off.”

Marketing Partners for Team Swarthout Motorsports Super Dirt Week excursion include Swarthout Recycling Container Service, Southern Tier Mini Service, Confi-Data, Payne Motorsports as well as BRICO Technologies.

The goal was to go to be a part of the 40th Anniversary Super Dirt Week event and qualify both the 358 as well as the Big Block Modified cars.  It was a great week!  MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!

NIGHT ONE OF THE BULL RING CHALLENGE AT THE WOODHULL RACEWAY PRODUCES MANY NEW WINNERS.

John Waters, Billy VanPelt, Gene Sharpsteen, Jim Money and Joe Birdsall all find victory lane.

(Woodhull, NY)  Under cloudy skies, cold temperatures and a constant threat of rain, the Woodhull Raceway kicked off night one of the 2nd Annual Bull Ring Challenge presented by Bully Hill Vineyards along with Outman Equipment  and  Kim’s Old Country Store.  With a stellar field of drivers on hand for the event the NAPA 360 Late Models were first out on the high banked one-third of a mile red clay oval for their 25 lap feature and after a spirited battle for the lead and the win it was Whitesville, NY speedster, John Waters claiming his first feature win of 2011 at the popular Steuben County oval.  For several laps Waters and Jeremy Wonderling battled for the top spot before a flat tire knocked out any chance that Wonderling had of winning the event.  That left Waters with clear sailing as he picked up his first win at Woodhull after a long dry spell and to make it family affair, younger brother and sensational rookie competitor, Dusty Waters chased his brother across the line to make it an all Waters one two finish.  Glen Whritenour took down another solid top five finish by coming home third followed by Billy VanPelt and Mike Wonderling Sr.
Heat wins went to Wonderling Jr., John Waters and VanPelt.

The big show of the night was the 50 lap, $1,000 to win S&W Awards and Photos Crate Sportsman Division as Woodhull played host to the biggest car count of the season with some thirty-one machines checking into the pit area requiring four qualifying heats won by Art Goodier, Billy VanPelt, Ajay Potrzebowski and Brady Fultz with Stacy Jackson claiming the win in the 12 lap B-Main.
Prior to the event the drivers were reminded of last years 50 lap grind where they ran off the first 47 without a caution flag and the goal was to do even better this year.  The drivers didn’t disappoint the hearty fans that braved the cold and blustery conditions as they clicked off the first 26 laps without a blemish before the first yellow flag waved for a mechanical issue.  With only one more quick yellow for a mechanical problem the rest of the event went off in record time with Billy VanPelt making it two wins in a row at Woodhull in the Ray Smith owned and prepared machine.  At the drop of the green flag young gun, Connor Brown took off from his pole position starting spot and jumped to an early lead.  An encounter with a lap machine slowed Brown and allowed VanPelt to go by and take the top spot which he would never relinquish.  Ajay Potrzebowski made the best strides of the event having started eleventh and without the help of cautions made a mad dash to the front and by the half way mark was third.  After a spirited battle with Brown for several laps was able to take over second and began to chase down VanPelt setting up a classic duel.  However, with the second caution of the event waving both Potrzebowski and the fourth place running machine of Brett Buono were both docked two spots for jumping on the previous green flag and with only a handful of laps remaining virtually wiping out any chance of either driver winning the event.  From there on out VanPelt cruised to the win with Potrzebowski recovering for second chased across the line by a fast closing Josh Nobriga who finished third.  Brett Buono and Art Goodier rounded out the top five finishers with only a couple seconds on the clock splitting the top five at the end of the 50 lap affair.

The Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stocks were up next for their 20 lap feature with a full field of full fendered creations taking the opening green flag.  Curt Stebbins has been on a mission at Woodhull all season long and wasted no time showing the rest of the field that they were racing for second place on this night as he open up an insurmountable lead and with virtually no yellow flags to slow the pace Stebbins was off in a different time zone.  However, all that would change on the last corner of the last lap as a lap machine spun directly in front of the race leader collecting both cars slowing Stebbins momentum just enough that Gene Sharpsteen was able to catch up, move around the two creeping machines and go on for the win.  For sure it was a devastating ending of what had been a perfect race for Stebbins as he was able to recover enough to take home the second spot at the checkered flag as he was followed across the line by Nick Robinson, Brett Crawford and Brett Buono.
Gene Sharpsteen has been a staple in upstate New York Motorsports for generations and his win at Woodhull proved that the versatile Waverly, NY speedster can master the high banks of Woodhull as well as any pavement track in the region.

The Signs Plus Mini Stocks were on the card for night one of the 2nd Annual Bull Ring Challenge and a host of invaders dotted the feature starting lineup.  Jim Money said “Show me the Money” as he cruised to his second feature win at Woodhull in as many years as the Central New York pilot was able to tame the high banks of the facility and cruise to the 20 lap feature win.  Last weeks feature winner Mike Smith was trying to go back to back, but he couldn’t muster enough speed at the end of the event to catch Money and had to settle for second place followed across the line by another Woodhull regular in Chip Warner.  Invader Keith Shay was fourth and local competitor Rick Amidon rounded the top five.
Heat wins went to Amidon and John Hand Jr.

Last but certainly not least the speedy LaBarron Brothers Repair and Parts Front Wheel Drive’s rounded out the night with everyone in the house needing a driver sign sheet to keep up with the musical chairs as there were driver and car changes galore.  In the end it all came down to the same players that have dominated the class all season long as Joe Birdsall claimed the 20 lap green to checkered run driving his father’s Championship winning car.  Birdsall was chased across the line by Nick Griest who continues to impress in post season play at Woodhull as weekly regular, James “The Hammer” Howard was third, Adam Delgrosso fourth and Kenny Underwood rounding the top five.

Night two of the Bull Ring Challenge will feature a $3,000 to win Big Block/Small bock Challenge Event along with a $1,000 to win 360 LM special.  Also on the card it will be a regular show of Crate Sportsman, Open Street, Mini and FWD Divisions.

Fans and drivers are reminded of the upcoming Woodhull Raceway Awards Banquet scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Horseheads Elks. Ticket information is just one click away at www.woodhullraceway.com

WONDERLING SR. CLAIMS $1,000 IN 360 LATE MODEL 50 LAP SPECIAL AT THE WOODULL RACEWAY.
Billy VanPelt, Mike Smith, and Joe Birdsall also pick up feature wins.

(Woodhull, NY) The night began with a $1,000 to win 50 lap 360 Late Model special feature event. With twenty-seven cars in attendance, only twenty-four could quality for the long distance event. Once the green flag dropped rookie Dustin Waters wasted no time taking the lead. Waters led the race up until the halfway point, where he spun out allowing Glenn Whritenour to move into the top spot. Sparky Hills, racing hard, found his car flipping and spinning in the air off the backstretch bringing the race to a halting stop at the three quarter mark of the 50 lap grind.  Luckily, Hills was okay and was able to safely exit his now heavily damaged machine. Once the race was restarted, Whritenour appeared set to take the checkered flag with only five laps left to go until coming out of turn two the rear end of Whritenour’s car broke, as Mike Wonderling Sr. moved into the lead. Bruce Miller, who got caught up in one of the early race cautions, raced his way from the back to second. Miller just didn’t have enough laps left for the win, as Wonderling Sr. picked up the checkered flags and a cool 1,000 dollars. Miller settled for second as Jeremy Wonderling, Carl Cleveland, and Clint Button rounded out the top five. Miller, along with Billy VanPelt and John Waters collected the heat wins, as Clint Button picked up the win in the consi.
Although he did not fare well in the Late Model feature, Billy VanPelt found himself in victory lane for the S&W Awards and Photos Crate Sportsman feature event. Starting up front, Ajay Potrzebowski led most of the race, until Billy VanPelt caught up to him. However, VanPelt struggled to find the fast lane around Potrzebowski until a lap car slowed him down, allowing VanPelt to capitalize on the opportunity and take the lead with only four to go. With two laps remaining Potrzebowski fought back and took back the lead, but VanPelt did not give up. In the end, VanPelt picked up the double checkered flags as Potrzebowski followed for second. Mike Bills, Donnie Lawson, and Bill Williams rounded out the top five. Picking up the heat wins it was Connor Brown, Potrzebowski, and Bill Williams.

In the Signs Plus of Kanona Mini Stocks, Mike Smith picked up his first feature win in two years at Woodhull Raceway. Racing Jason Warner’s 3w, Smith ran the car to perfection as he was able to race his way from 7th to 1st. Chip Warner finished second followed by Riley Ellison, Larry Colton and Mike Kozer. Smith also picked up a heat win, as Brandi Dailey collected her first ever checkered flag in her heat event.

Joe Birdsall, driving his father’s car, once again found himself in victory lane for the FWD feature event. James Howard quickly took the lead, and did not give it up easily to Birdsall. Howard and Birdsall spent multiple laps racing side by side for the lead. Adam DelGrosso decided to join Howard and Birdsall as he made it a three-car battle for the lead, until he was sent to the back when debris from his car brought out the caution. DelGrosso was still able to rally and finish third as Birdsall ultimately beat out Howard for the win. Matt Prescott and Danny Mitchell rounded out the top five. Mitchell, who drove Birdsall regular car, picked up his first ever heat win, as DelGrosso also collected a heat win.

On September 30th, the Woodhull Raceway will be kicking off its 2nd Annual Bull Ring Challenge presented by Outman Equipment and Bully Hill Vineyards with gates opening at 4:30pm and racing at 7pm.  The night will include a $1,000 to win 50 lap Crate Sportsman feature event along with the 360 Late Models, Open Streets, Open Minis, Open FWDs.  A huge bonfire will wrap up the Friday night segment of the weekend.  On Saturday,  October 1st the Bull Ring Challenge will continue with $3,000 to win BB/SB Modifieds, $1,000 to win 360 LM, Crate Sportsman, Open Streets, Open Minis, Open FWDs. SWARTHOUT MOTORSPORTS PREPARES FOR ASSAULT ON SYRACUSE , NY SUPER DIRT WEEK.

(Beaver Dams, NY)  For the third consecutive year, Brian Swarthout will make an appearance at Super Dirt Week in Syracuse , NY from October 4 thru October 9, 2011.

As he has for the past two years, Swarthout will attempt to put his 358 Modified in the field for the 150 lap special.  After a great run in his rookie campaign was nullified by a late race flat tire in the 2009 event, the three time Black Rock Speedway 358 Modified Track Champion found the true meaning of the phrase “Sophomore Jinx” as he struggled mightily in his attempt to qualify for the 2010 affair with the veteran Beaver Dams, NY competitor watching from the side lines as he was never able to find the necessary speed to make the show.  To make matters worse a second Swarthout Motorsports Big Block Modified machine piloted by veteran competitor, Alan Johnson never made it a full lap in the 200 lap Modified finale as he was swept up in a turn three incident badly damaging the TEO Pro Car frame.

For the 2K11 assault on the Syracuse Moody Mile, Team Swarthout will once again go with a pair of TEO machines, his favorite 358 Modified car along with the totally rebuilt Big Block Modified. However, Swarthout will go to the Salt City with a different approach and a renewed attitude.

“Last year was not good from start to finish, stated Swarthout.  We were pressing to get the cars done in time to go to Syracuse .  We had some issues in tech with the small block car that put us behind and cost the team valuable track time.   Things then continued to spiral downhill when we were involved in a first lap incident in our 358 Modified Qualifying Race that relegated us to the tail end of the Last Chance Race where we came up one spot shy of making the 150.  Then the Big Block got bent up real bad and had to go back to the chassis builder for a new rear clip and body.  Calling 2010 at Syracuse a nightmare is putting it mildly; however this year we are making every attempt to go better prepared.  Myself along with all the crew members agreed that if we are going to go to Super Dirt Week we have to get our business in order early so when we get to the track I can focus entirely on driving and not other matters.  I plan on putting both the 358 Small Block as well as the Big Block car in the show this year myself and to do it I have to be on the track all day in one car or the other.”

Track/seat time at Syracuse is imperative for any race driver weather it be a seasoned veteran of the Moody Mile or a first time pilot.  The track’s surface changes continually throughout the day and drivers need to know how the car’s chassis is doing from early in the morning till late in the afternoon.  The higher horse powered Big Block Modified may call for a different chassis and gear ration set up versus the less powerful and lighter 358 machine thus the driver and crew must stay on top of track conditions throughout the entire week thru practice, time trials and qualifying heats to make sure they have the best possible set up leading into their respective feature events.

The crew of Swarthout Motorsports has been hard at work for several weeks preparing both machines for the rigors of the Syracuse Mile.  The 358 Modified that saw little action in 2011 has been completely gutted, thoroughly gone thru and retrofitted with new parts and tin.  The Big Block machine was primarily race ready when picked from the TEO Shops in New Jersey a few weeks ago.  Installation of the re-freshened Finger Lakes power plant as well as graphic art work to the all new body are the two main items on the punch list prior to final chassis set up prior to leaving for Syracuse.

“I feel like we are in far better shape at this time than we were a year ago and barring and real set backs we will have all our affairs in order prior to heading out on October 4,” stated Swarthout.

Swarthout Recycling Container Service and Southern Tier Mini Service both of Beaver Dams, along with Confi. Data of Utica are the primary sponsors on both machines with additional marketing support coming from BRICO Technologies of Elmira and Wellsville.

JEREMY WONDERLING PICK’S UP THE BRP CAN AM 360 LM SERIES EVENT AT THE WOODHULL RACEWAY

Billy VanPelt wins Annual Lyle Sherwood Memorial Open Small Block Modified event.   Kurt Stebbins, Ray Spiecher, and Adam DelGrosso also pick up feature wins.

(Woodhull, NY) The Lyle Sherwood Memorial Night, sponsored by Griffith Energy brought yet another night of great racing action at the Woodhull Raceway. In addition to five feature events, the night also featured an additional FWD feature, rained out from last week, along with the 360 Late Model and Street Stock Race of Champions.
The BRP Late Model Series kicked off the feature events, as a full field of cars took the green with Cecil LaBarron taking the lead early on. LaBarron ran in the top spot for multiple laps until Jeremy Wonderling caught up to him and made a pass for the lead. Wonderling then worked his way through lap traffic to pick up his 7th feature win of the season at Woodhull Raceway and with the win was able to retake the point lead in the BRP Can Am Series. LaBarron finished an impressive second his best finish of the year followed by Mike Wonderling, and Dusty Waters, with Greg Galligan rounding out the top five. Picking up the heat wins it was Jeremy Wonderling, Dusty Waters, and Quinn Sutherland. Wonderling also found himself in victory lane for the NAPA sponsored Race of Champions making it a clean sweep on the night.  With the prestigious NAPA 360 LM RoC win it made it three straight trips to Woodhull’s feature event victory lane
The much-anticipated Lyle Sherwood 358 Modified Memorial Race did not disappoint. Mike Bills quickly jumped to the front and took off as he danced his way around the high banks for a majority of the race until the car began to slip up in the final laps as Billy VanPelt finally made a pass for the lead with only nine laps to go. Dale Welty had a notably great run as he worked his way from 8th to the top three before his car broke on lap 22. However, it was lap 29 restart that a major wreck on the front straight claimed multiple cars including Ray Dann, Curt VanPelt, Frank Dunning, Tim Guild, Ken Peoples Sr., and Mike Buchanan. Dann and Peoples’ cars suffered some of the heaviest damage. Once the front stretch was cleared and the green waved, Joe Dgien showed a lot of muscle as he made a pass around Bills for 2nd and began to close in on VanPelt. In the end, Bills took back second as VanPelt picked up his 8th feature win of the season. Dgien settled for 3rd as Ron White and Brian Doolittle rounded out the top five. Mike Bills, Lee Bills, and Alan Rudalavage picked up the heat wins.
In the Morgan’s Auto Repair Open Street Stocks, Kurt Stebbins picked up his fifth feature win of the season. Stebbins, who started up front, still had to hold off a whole field of tough competitors as Dean Layfield worked his way up from the 12th starting spot to 2nd,where he just could not find his way around Stebbins. Brett Marlatt had a great run in the feature, as his car struggled in his heat causing him to start twenty-first. That did not stop Marlatt as he quickly worked his way all the way up to third and made a pass around Layfield to take over second. Stebbins picked up the win, as Marlatt hung on to second followed by Dean Layfield, Brett Crawford, and Joe Layfield. Picking up the heat wins it was Teddy Morseman, Corey Costa, and Jeremy Potrzebowski. Potrzebowski also claimed the checkered flag in the prestigious and high dollar paying Morgan’s Auto Repair Race of Champions as be bested a stellar field of 2011 Woodhull Raceway feature winning drivers.
In the Signs Plus of Kanona Mini Stocks, Ray Spiecher picked up his 2nd feature win of the season. Spiecher, who started up front in a borrowed ride after his car was destroyed by flood waters earlier in the week had to work hard to get to the top spot as Keith Shay led multiple laps and looked set to win, before his car began to slow in the final laps. This allowed Spiecher to find his way around Shay to pick up his 2nd checkered flag of the year. John Hand Jr. finished second as Shay followed in third with Mike Pence and Chip Warner rounding out the top five. Both Spiecher and Shay picked up the heat wins.
Due to last week’s rained out feature event, the LaBarron Brothers’ Repair and Parts Front Wheel Drive class ran two features, with Adam DelGrosso picking up the checkered flag for both. In the make-up feature, DelGrosso had to find his way around Jacob Buck who led most of the feature event. Once DelGrosso made the pass around Buck, he picked up his second feature win of the season. Rounding out the top five, it was Buck, James Howard, Ronnie Hill, and Billy Joe Birdsall. With his fifth place finish, Birdsall was able to claim his first ever track championship in the FWD division.
DelGrosso, who started 12th for the regular feature event, once again made his way to the front of the pack, where this time it was his teammate and car owner, Cody Baker who he had to battle with for the lead. Lap after lap, the two swapped the lead, until on the 18th lap DelGrosso took back the lead and never looked back as he picked up his 3rd feature win, making it two in a row in one night. Baker finished second followed by Colby Brewer, Matt Prescott, and Billy Joe Birdsall. DelGrosso also picked up a heat win along with Ronnie Hill.
On Saturday, September 17th, the track will be taking a night off from regular race action. Instead, any drivers can come for a “Test & Tune” between 1 and 4pm. Racing action will resume on Saturday, September 24th as Multi-Media Services and the Elmira Jackals will be sponsoring, with a $1,000 to win 50 Lap 360 LM Special, Crate Sportsman, Open Mini, and Open FWD. This will be the last night for season passes.
Gates open at 3:30 with racing at 5:30.

WONDERLING DOMINATES WOODHULL'S FINAL BRP SERIES RACE

Woodhull…Jeremy Wonderling now owns seven 2011 A-Main wins at Ted White’s Woodhull Raceway including all three BRP CanAm Series tour events.  Wonderling started 10th in the 24 car field and methodically worked his way to the lead on lap 11.  Passing nine cars in eleven laps at Woodhull without the benefit of cautions is a grand feat.

It is tougher to identify the highlight of this event.  There was simply a lot of great racing always very tight and with minimal incidents.  Minimal indeed, two single car spins, one flat tire, and one debris caution were all that slowed the contest.  Included in the stories that should be told is the great run by pole starter, Cecil LaBarron.  LaBarron got the #1 chip without showing for the redraw when Mrs. Wonderling (Mike’s wife – Jeremy & Mikey’s mother) drew for him.  The seasoned veteran racer had not had a wonderful year racing until last night.  Last night changed everything.  The Carlisle, PA driver lead laps 1-10 then ran second with lots of pressure from several different drivers all the way to Tony VanPelt’s checkers.  The last driver to apply pressure for the runner-up spot was Mike Wonderling.  Mike another driver who has a lot of laps in his racing log book completed the podium positions for Series tour event number nine of the eleven event 2011 Series.

Woodhull Sat Sep 10 A-Main Finish: JEREMY WONDERLING, Cecil LaBarron, Mike Wonderling, Dusty Waters, Greg Galligan, John Waters, Bryce Davis, Steve Hartman, Quinn Sutherland, Mikey Wonderling, Mick Seely, Jared Hill, Dave DuBois, Carl Cleveland, Jason Knowles, Clint Button, Steve LaBarron, Jay McConnell, Larry Knowles, Buck Payne, Carl Hughes, Brian Hoffman, Glenn Whritenour, Brian Knowles

DNQ: Fred Amann, Frank LaBarron, Jay McConnell II

Notes: F/A Products Engine Builder qualifier race winners over the weekend were Greg Galligan, Steve Hartman, Bruce Miller, Quinn Sutherland, Dusty Waters, and Jeremy Wonderling.  Each earned $50 for credit at their engine builder…Winners of the $100 Dart Machinery Hard Charger awards were Wally Wade at Merrittville and Steve Hartman at Woodhull…The ISKY Cams Back Row Challenge for a $1000 bonus was declined by Brian Knowles at Merrittville and  Cecil LaBarron at Woodhull…Dart Machinery Hard Chargers were Wally Wade at Merrittville and  Steve Hartman at Woodhull.  Each earned $100 from Dart…Dusty Waters was the Miles-Agency.com Rookie of the Race for both events and now lead the season long battle for the $1000 rookie bonus…Gater Racing News Draw Award recipients were Bryce Davis at Merrittville and Frank LaBarron at Woodhull

2011 TRACK CHAMPIONS NAMED AT WOODHULL RACEWAY ON POINT FINALE NIGHT

Art Goodier, Steve Hartman Jr., Jeremy Potrzebowski, Ron Dailey Jr., and Jeremy Wonderling all pick up feature wins.

(Woodhull, NY) The Woodhull Raceway 2011 Point Season came to a close with the point finale night sponsored by Kibbe Oil and Gas Field Services. Starting the night was the Crate Sportsman class as they had a close point battle between the top three competitors, Art Goodier, Ajay Potrzebowski, and Roger Williams. Starting on the outside pole Art Goodier had the instant advantage over Roger Williams who started 5th and Ajay Potrzebowski who started 11th. However, Goodier still had to wheel his way around pole starter Brett Buono. Goodier did just that as he passed Buono for the lead and kept it that way as he picked up the double-checkered flags followed by Billy Williams, Buono, Rod Mullen, and Josh Nobriga. Nobriga also picked up a heat win along with Ryan Tracy and Ajay Potrzebowski. Goodier’s win sealed the deal in points making him the 2011 Crate Sportsman Track Champion.
Next in line, it was the Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stocks as they too had a great point battle all the way through the field, especially with the top three point contenders, Jerred Dennis, Joe Layfield, and Kurt Stebbins. Going into the night only three points separated Dennis and Layfield, as Stebbins was only fourteen points behind Dennis, making every move in both the heats and feature crucial to the final point standings. Joe Layfield started his night off on the wrong foot, as he was unable to finish his heat due to mechanical problems. But by the feature event Layfield’s car was back and running just as fast as ever, as he worked his way from 16th to 3rd where he tried everything he could to catch up to and pass Dennis but ran out of laps to do so. Dennis also had an impressive run as he carefully worked his way through traffic to 2nd where he tried to chase down leader Jeremy Potrzebowski, but just could not find his way around him as Potrzebowski picked up the win, followed by Dennis, Layfield, Kurt Stebbins and Jeff Smith. Potrzebowski and Stebbins both picked up the heat wins. Jerred Dennis’s second place finish over Layfield, along with a second place heat finish, gave him the points necessary to claim his first ever Street Stock Track Championship.
Many people were on the edge of their seats as the 358 Modifieds took the stage for their feature event. Multi TIme Track Champion, Billy Van Pelt came into the night with only a two-point lead over Alan Rudalavage, with Mike Bills only twelve points way. After winning last week’s feature event, Rudalavage started 12th only three spots behind Van Pelt. It was set to be one for the books, as the tough class of competitors took the green. Van Pelt quickly began working his way through the field, as did Rudalavage until his rear bumper got hooked with Dale Welty’s front bumper coming down the front stretch bringing out the caution and sending both cars to the back. After that, Rudalavage just could not find his way back up to Van Pelt. Meanwhile, Van Pelt had worked his way up to second, but just could not find his way around Steve Hartman Jr., who kept every lane closed preventing Van Pelt from passing in the final laps and allowing Hartman to pick up his first feature win this season. For Hartman Jr. and his Terry Brewer owned team it was a highly popular win as the Woodhull , NY driver was mobbed in victory lane by a large number of family members, fans, crew members and sponsors. Van Pelt did not go home empty handed as he picked up a heat win, and finished second becoming the 2011 358 Modified Track Champion. Also picking up heat wins it was Frank Dunning and Mike Bills. Bills also finished third, edging out his father Lee Bills, as Dave Dubois rounded out the top five. Despite his heat win and 3rd place finish Bills still finished 3rd in points overall as Rudalavage, finishing 11th still managed to claim 2nd in points.
In the mini stock division, Ron Dailey Jr., who secured his lead in points earlier this season, picked up his 14th feature win this season. Dailey worked his way to the lead position early in the race as Sharpsteen raced 2nd until the final laps as Ray Speicher worked his way from the back of the field to challenge for 2nd. Coming out of turn 2 with just a handful of laps remaining, Speicher made it a side by side battle along Sharpsteen as he took over the runner-up position. Speicher finished second, with Sharpsteen picking up third followed by John Hand Jr. and Rick Amidon. Mike Emmick picked up his first heat win of the season, as Dailey also collected a heat win along with the title of 2011 Mini Stock Track Champion.
In the NAPA 360 Late Model Class, Jeremy Wonderling returned to the high banks to pick up his sixth feature win of the season. Wonderling, who started 3rd, led most of the race as Glenn Whritenour worked his way up from seventh to second. Rookie contender Dustin Waters once again wheeled his car like a seasoned veteran as he added to his consistent top 5 finishes, finishing 3rd. Rounding out the top five it was last week’s feature winner Greg Galligan followed by Mike Wonderling Sr.. Galligan also picked up a heat win along with Jeremy Wonderling and Whritenour. Whritenour also sealed another Late Model Track Championship.
Due to rain, the Front Wheel Drive division was unable to run their feature event leaving their point standings undecided until next Saturday. Picking up the heat wins earlier in the night it was Ronnie Hill and Adam DelGrosso. The Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stock Race of Champions race, along with the NAPA 360 Late Model Race of Champions will also be ran next Saturday due to the weather.
On Saturday September 10th, Griffith Energy will present the $1,700 to win Lyle Sherwood Memorial Open Small Block Special, BRP Can-Am Series, Open SS, Open MS, Open FWD along with the Street Stock and Late Model Race of Champions due to Saturday night’s late rain out.
Gates open at 3:30 with racing at 5:30.

(Woodhull, NY)  The Woodhull Raceway will do something very rare on Saturday night; September 17, 2011 and that is take a night off during the season.

“Traditionally when we start things off in mid-April we race each and every Saturday night until we close up shop in late September or early October stated track owner, Ted White.  This past winter when we were putting our 2011 Woodhull Raceway Schedule of Events together we took a look at things from a different perspective and decided to give everyone a night off on Sept. 17.  We try to work closely with Little Valley and their “Specials Only Format.”  When LV puts their annual schedule together they try not to step on anyone’s toes and we appreciate their attempt to try and work with surrounding race tracks and it is with that though in mind that we are giving way to Little Valley on Sept. 17.  This gives all of our 358 Modified and 360 Late Model race teams as well as our loyal fans and employees an opportunity to travel to Little Valley for a night of race action with out any conflicts.”

Woodhull will however be open for practice on Saturday afternoon, September 17 for practice from 1:00 until 4:00 pm.  This will allow any type of race car the opportunity to use the track for test and tune purposes.  Numerous race teams have indicated they will be at Woodhull in an attempt to get their machines dialed in for the remaining upcoming special events on Sept. 24, 30 and Oct. 1.

It should also be noted that in the event of a postponement of the Lyle Sherwood Memorial Event including the BRP Can Am 360 LM Special on September 10 it will be made up on Friday, September 16.

RUDALAVAGE PICKS UP THE CHECKERED FLAG TO CLOSE IN ON VANPELT IN ONE OF MANY TORRID POINT BALLTES AT THE WOODHUOLL RACEWAY.

Colby Brewer, Greg Galligan, Kurt Stebbins, Ray Spiecer, and Brady Fultz join Al Rudalavage in collect the feature wins.

(Woodhull, NY) The Corning Inc. along with Bennett’s Used Auto Parts and Machuga Contracting  sponsored night was full of competitive racing and close finishes, with the final points night within sight. Kicking off the night, it was the LaBarron Brothers’ Repair & Part Front Wheel Drive 30 lap special feature event. Starting on the pole it was Colby Brewer. From the drop of the green Brewer took charge of the field and never looked back as the race ran green to checkered. As the laps winded down Brewer kept safe distance between him and the rest of the field as it was a tough battle for the rest of the top five positions. Joe Birdsall claimed second followed by Billy Joe Birdsall, as Ronnie Hill and Adam DelGrosso rounded out the top five, with Brewer picking up his first ever feature win. In addition to a feature win, Brewer also collected a heat win along with Ronnie Hill.
Next up for the night, it was the NAPA 360 Late Models. Rookie competitor Dustin Waters quickly took the lead position and looked set to pick up his first feature win. However, as the laps dwindled down Greg Galligan was there to make it a side-by-side race, as he edged out Waters for the lead at the line before Jerry Wilson’s car broke down bringing out the yellow and putting Galligan’s car in the top spot for the restart. Galligan hung onto the lead for the remainder of the race picking up his second feature win this season with Waters settling for second. Glenn Whritenour finished third with Fred Amman charging his way up from the 16th starting position to pick up fourth as Buck Payne rounded out the top five. Whritenour and Payne both picked up a heat win along with Clint Button.
It was once again a tough battle in the Street Stock division as the close point race between the top five cars starts to come to a close. Jeredd Dennis struggled with his car as he got caught up in a first lap pile up, that ended Brett Marlatt’s night early. After a couple stops to the pits, Dennis was able to stay on the lead lap and charge his way from the back to the top five, as Kurt Stebbins and Joe Layfield fought a clean hard race for the lead position. In the end, Layfield tried everything possible, but just could not take the lead from Stebbins as he picked up his forth feature win. Jeremy Potrzebowski finished third, followed by Dennis, with Brett Crawford rounding out the top five. Crawford and Stebbins also collected heat wins along with Ted Morseman.
It was a real nail bitter as the checkered flags waved for the 358 Modified feature event, as Alan Rudalavage picked up his sixth feature win. Rudalavage carefully worked lap traffic as Mike Bills closed in on the leader and tried to find his way around Rudalavage as he also weaved his way through the heavy lap traffic. Finally coming out of turn four as the checkered flags were waving, Bills tried to make a last lap pass at the line taking the car airborne as he tried to squeeze his way past Rudalavage and the wall. In the end, Rudalavage edged out Bills who settled for second as Frank Dunning, Billy Van Pelt, and Lee Bills rounded out the top five. Rudalavage’s win puts him only a couple points behind point leader, Billy Van Pelt going into next week’s point finale. Picking up the heat wins it was Dunning, Mike Bills, and Donnie Lawson.
There was another new face this week in victory lane for the Signs Plus of Kanona Mini Stocks. Ray Spiecer took the lead early and hung on until Ron Daily found his way around Spiecher, and looked set to add yet another feature win to his collection. It all came down to the final three laps as Spiecer and Daily battled hard for the lead. Then, with less than two laps to go Spiecer took the lead as Daily fighting hard alongside Spiecer bobbled on the backstretch allowing Spiecer to put a little distance between him and Daily as he picked up his first ever feature win at Woodhull Raceway. Daily fell back to fourth, as his car broke the final time around turn three but was able to finish, as JR Hoppe claimed the runner up position, followed by Jason Ketrow, with John Hand Jr. rounding out the top five. Daily and Ketrow picked up the heat wins.
The Crate Sportsman class finished off the night as Brady Fultz picked up his third feature win of the season at Woodhull Raceway. Leading much of the race, it was Rod Mullen as he started on the outside pole. Halfway through Roger Williams made a pass for the lead around Mullen as they came out of turn two. On the 18th lap, the race came to halt as Connor Brown took a hard hit to the infield tire barrier and had to be transported off the raceway via ambulance. Once the race went green again, Fultz hunted down Williams and with only two to go he took the lead, with Williams finishing second followed by Bill Williams, Rod Mullen, and Stacey Jackson. Doug Kline, Ajay Potrzebowski, and Stacey Jackson collected the heat wins.  As of the release of this story, Brown was home and resting after his bone jarring crash.
On Saturday September 3rd, Kibbe Oil and Gas Field Services will present a Regular Big 6 Show along with the season point finale. Also on the card it will be the running of the NAPA 360 LM and Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stock Race of Champions events
Gates open at 4:30 with racing at 6:30.

LAYFIELD KEEPS IT A CLOSE POINT RACE AS HE FINDS VICTORY LANE IN WOODHULL RACEWAY STREET STOCK ACTION.

Joe Layfield, Glen Whritenour, Billy VanPelt, Ajay Potrzebowski, Rich Sharpsteen and Ronnie Hill pick up the feature wins.

(Woodhull, NY) The Colonial Hotel sponsored night was full of close competitive racing action as the point season dwindles down. The Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stocks were the class to watch, just as they have been each and every week. Leaving fans on the edge of their seats for all 25 laps top point contenders, Joe Layfield, Brett Marlatt, Jeredd Dennis, Teddy Morseman, Kurt Stebbins and Kane Stebbins once again fought hard at the front of the pack swapping positions and racing hard side by side. At one point, they had it four wide for the lead with Joe Layfield coming out on top and claiming the checkered flags. It was a tough break for Brett Marlatt as his car broke down in the final laps shuffling up the top finishing order as last week’s feature winner, Teddy Morseman Jr. finished second, followed by Jeredd Dennis, Kurt Stebbins, and Kane Stebbins. Picking up the heat wins it was Jeredd Dennis, Jeff Smith, and Kane Stebbins.
In the NAPA 360 Late Models, it was looking to be one for the books as Fast Freddie Amann led most of the race, after starting ninth, with Sparky Hills up in second. Hills held off Glen Whritenour for multiple laps, but once Whritenour found his way around Hills he set his sights on Amann and in the end it was Whritenour who picked up the checkered flags, with Amann finishing second as Greg Galligan, Mike Wonderling Jr., and Dusty Waters rounded out the top five. Whritenour also picked up a heat win along with Buck Payne and Dusty Waters.
Veteran Competitor Billy VanPelt once again found his way to Victory Lane in the Insinger Performance 358 Modifieds. VanPelt, who started 7th, worked his way around fellow tough competitors Donnie Lawson, Mike Bills, Dave Dubois, Kenny Peoples Jr., Dale Welty, and Tim Guild. However, as the checkered flags waved Dylan Dewert wasn’t far behind as he finished second edging out Alan Rudalavage who picked up third. Donnie Lawson finished forth as Frank Dunning rounded out the top five. Rudalavage and VanPelt both picked up a heat win along with Mike Bills.
Ajay Potrzebowski picked up his 7th feature win this season in the Crate Sportsman division. Bob Johnson, who was racing hard alongside Roger Williams, took a scary trip of the backstretch in what was initially believed to be a rollover bringing out the red flag. Once the green flag waved again, Potrzebowski, who started 8th, weaved his way up to the front picking up the checkered flags followed by, Brett Buono, Bill Williams, Josh Nobriga, and Conner Brown. Potrzebowski also picked up a heat win along with Casey Pavlick and Art Goodier.
In the Signs Plus of Kanona Mini Stock division, Rich Sharpsteen picked up the checkered flags for the second time this year. Sharpsteen, who started 7th, took the lead from Chip Warner a few laps into the feature and ran away with it after that as he weaved his way through heavy lap traffic. Fighting for the runner up spot, John Hand Jr. and Ron Dailey Jr. struggled to smoothly find their way around lap traffic, as Hand held off Daily until the final laps. Once Daily made the pass around Hand he looked to take over the lead as he made it a side by side race alongside Sharpsteen and was set to take make the pass until Sharpsteen closed the lane and picked up the double checkered flags. Daily along with Jason Warner, John Hand Jr., and Ray Spiecher rounded out the top five. Ron Amidon had an impressive 6th place finish, after he rolled his car off the backstretch during his heat event. Chip Warner, Jason Ketrow, and Jason Warner collected the heat wins.
Ronnie Hill picked up win number four in the LaBarron Brothers’ Repair and Parts Front Wheel Drive feature event. Colby Brewer led multiple laps before Hill, who started 7th, took over the top position. Last week’s feature winner, Adam DelGrosso, made a last lap effort to take over the lead but had to settle for 2nd as Hill picked up the checkered flags.  Colby Brewer, Joe Birdsall, and Cody Baker rounded out the top five, with Billy Joe Birdsall and Ronnie Hill picking up the heat wins.
On Saturday August 27th, Machuga Contractors, Bennett’s Used Auto Parts and Corning Inc. will all be on hand to present a Regular Big 6 Show with a FWD special 10/1 qualifier event.
Gates open at 4:30 with racing at 6:30.

A NIGHT OF FIRSTS AT WOODHULL AS DELGROSSO, JACKSON, MORSEMAN, & STONE PICK UP THEIR FIRST FEATURE WINS

Ron Daily Jr., Adam DelGrosso, Brian Knowles, Alan Rudalavage, Teddy Morseman, Dan Stone, and Stacy Jackson picked up the feature wins.

(Woodhull, NY) The Mullen Carpets and S&W Awards and Photos sponsored night was full of first time winners in the regular classes as well as in the featured ULMS Super Late Model Series’ race. Once again, it was the Street Stock Division that put on perhaps the best show of the night as the front of pack was full of hard racing between a great group of drivers. Finally, after multiple 2nd place and 3rd place finishes, Teddy Morseman Jr. picked up the checkered flags racing his way to the front and holding off a tough field of competitors. For many laps, Morseman had Kane Stebbins nipping at his heels, until the top five cars found themselves in lap traffic, ultimately creating trouble for the racers as Stebbins got tangled up lap traffic ending his 2nd place run. The wreck also collected Joe Layfield hurting his point battle for lead with Jeredd Dennis who finished 2nd. Mike Williams, Brett Marlatt, and Jeff Smith rounded out the top five.
Like Morseman, Stacy Jackson also found himself in Victory Lane for the first time in the Crate Sportsman class. Starting on the poll Jackson masterfully handled the slick high-banked track as he held off John Hargrave and Mike Jackson who were right behind Jackson leaving him no room to bobble in the final laps. In the end, Hargrave and Mike Jackson settled for 2nd and 3rd, as Bill Williams and Ajay Potrzebowski rounded out the top five.
In the FWD division, Adam DelGrosso finally picked up his first feature win ever. The first time winner started on the poll but had to hold off this year’s top competitors, Joe Birdsall and Billy Joe Birdsall. Joe Birdsall worked his way up to second where he couldn’t find his way around DelGrosso. Joe Birdsall, Billy Joe Birdsall, Cody Baker, and Colby Brewer rounded out the top five. A tough competitor all year, DelGrosso’s feature win was well deserved.
Starting on the outside poll Alan Rudalavage took the lead in the beginning and kept it that way as he picked up his 5th feature win this season. Not making it an easy win for Rudalavage, Donnie Lawson fought hard alongside Rudalavage as he made it a side-by-side race for the lead multiple times down the straight-aways. Lawson’s impressive run wasn’t enough to take the win but resulted in a solid 2nd place finish over Dylan Dewert, Dale Welty, and Mike Bills. Rudalavage also won the ULMS LM vs. 358 Modified Dash for Cash.
Starting up front, Brian Knowles picked up his 2nd feature win in the NAPA 360 Late Model division. Knowles had to contend with Glenn Whritenour for the win, who starting 12th worked his way to the front finishing 2nd. Behind Whritenour, Mike Wonderling Sr., Mike Wonderling Jr., Buck Payne rounded out the top five. Payne’s 5th place finish was hard earned as he raced his way through the field after going to the back early in the race.
In the Signs Plus of Kanona Mini Stock division, Ron Daily Jr. added to his collection of wins as he picked up his 13th feature win this season. Once again, Daily worked his way through the pack after starting 12th. Finishing 2nd it was Jason Warner followed by, Chip Warner, Tracy Dunn, and John Hand Jr.
In the ULMS Super Late Model feature event it was Dan Stone who picked up his first feature win at Woodhull Raceway. Curt Tunilo Jr. finished an impressive 5th after spinning out in the opening laps and working his way back through the field. Finishing 2nd through 4th it was, Mike Knight, Bud Phillips, and Jeremy Ohl.
On Saturday August 20th Colonial Hotel will present a regular Big 6 show for the Legends of Woodhull Reunion night.  Also, due to an earlier season rainout the Salute to the Veteran’s Night will be held on August 20 as well.

FANS OF THE WOODHULL RACEWAY HELP GENERATE FUNDS FOR THE LOCAL AMISH COMMUNITY.

(Woodhull, NY)  It has been long said that fans and racers involved within the local Motorsports arena are extremely loyal to their own and when a fellow racer is in need the faithful will rally to the cause.

On Saturday, July 30, 2011 many of these same race fans and competitors were asked to help with a different cause as the Woodhull Raceway spearheaded a drive to raise much needed funds for the families of the local Amish communities in Woodhull, Jasper and Troupsburg.

It has been well documented over the past several weeks that no less than 6 local Amish men and women lost their lives in a horrific automotive related mishap in Yates County.  Several others are still recuperating from the accident with many looking at numerous week’s of hospitalization.

During this traumatic time several local individuals, families, business and organizations have pitched in whatever way feasible to help feed and house the thousands of Amish families that traveled into the area for the funeral services.  Hospitalization costs will sore to say nothing about the many children that lost parents from this tragic incident.

Several Woodhull Raceway Drivers helped pass their racing helmets thru the grandstands on July 30 and the huge crowd in attendance responded with a generous donation of $1,500 which will be presented to the local Amish Bishop by Woodhull Raceway owner, Ted White.

On behalf of White, his girlfriend, Brandi McCutchen along with all the staff and management of the track they would like to thank all the fans, drivers and sponsors for their generosity.

MARLATT FINISHES ON TOP IN BEST RACE OF THE NIGHT AT THE WOODHULL RACEWAY

Billy VanPelt, Roger Williams, Glenn Whritenour, Ron Daily Jr. and Ronnie Hill add to their collection of wins.

(Woodhull, NY) The Lamb & Webster, along with Insinger Performance, sponsored night was packed full with racing excitement as the regular six classes took the stage along with a 360/410 Sprint Challenge. Shaking up the usual running of the events, the Mini Stocks and Front Wheel Drive classes ran features only. In the Signs Plus of Kanona Mini Stocks, it was Ron Daily Jr. who found his 12th feature win. Daily took over the lead in the final laps when a caution brought him within striking distance of Jason Warner on restart. Warner a consistently fast competitor, and current 2nd place point man, led a majority of the race by a straightaway or more. After Daily made a pass for the lead, Warner stayed within close distance and was set to take second until Rich Sharpsteen made a last lap pass taking over the runner up spot with Warner finishing 3rd. Rounding out the top five  it was Chip Warner and John Hand Jr.
In the LaBarron Brothers’ Repair and Parts Front Wheel Drive division, Ronnie Hill picked up his 3rd feature win of the season. Hill made the pass for the lead around pole starter Adam DelGrosso midway through the race, but DelGrosso never let Hill out of his sight as he waited for the perfect moment to take back his lead. Coming around the final turn, DelGrosso made a bold move to the inside of Hill making it a wheel-to-wheel finish between the two, with Hill edging out DelGrosso. Colby Brewer finished 3rd with Cody Baker and Billy Joe Birdsall rounding out the top five.
Next up it was the S & W Awards and Photos Crate Sportsman. After tearing up his car the previous week, Roger Williams was able to pick up the double checkered flags making it his 3rd feature win of the season. Williams, starting 6th had to find his way around point leader Art Goodier, along with fellow feature winner Mike Jackson. Williams’ win helped him to close in on the point lead and take over 2nd in points from Ajay Potrzebowski who finished further back in the field after being involved in a couple cautions. Rounding out the top five it was Mike Jackson, Don Lawson, Brady Fultz, and Connor Brown, with Jackson picking up a heat win along with Brett Buono, Paul Rooney, and Rod Mullen.
Putting on perhaps the best show of the night, it was the Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stock Division as Brett Marlatt picked up his 2nd feature win. It was a four car battle for the lead throughout the 25 lap event, as Marlatt had to fend off both Kurt and Kane Stebbins along with Jeredd Dennis. Multiple times it was three wide for the lead, but in the end it was Marlatt who picked up the double checkered flags, as Jeredd Dennis picked up 2nd followed by Kurt Stebbins and Kane Stebbins. Quickly working his way up through the field from the 12th starting spot, last week’s feature winner Joe Layfield rounded out the top five. Picking up the heat wins it was the Stebbins brothers along with Teddy Morseman Jr.
In the Insinger Performance 358s, veteran competitor Billy VanPelt picked up his 6th feature win. Starting on the pole, VanPelt led all 25 laps, but in the final laps runner up Joe Dgien began to close in on the lead as he and VanPelt weaved their way through lap traffic. Mike Bills held off Donnie Lawson to finish 3rd, as Lawson finished 4th with Dylan Dewert rounding out the top five. Bills, VanPelt and Alan Rudalavage picked up the heat wins.
In the NAPA 360 Late Models, Glenn Whritenour picked up win number three. Starting on the pole Whritenour hung on to his lead through all 25 laps of action. Jared Hill had an impressive run, as he got involved in an early caution and made a quick trip to the pits, but brought his car all the way from the back of the field to finish 5th. Greg Galligan picked up 2nd allowing him to stay within close distance of point leader and feature winner Whritenour. Brian Knowles finished 3rd as Buck Payne worked his way up from 11th to finish 4th. Whritenour, Knowles, and Hill picked up the heat wins.

Alan Rudalavage, Brady Fultz, Joe Layfield, Ron Dailey Jr., and Billy Joe Birdsall add to their win lists, as Brian Knowles picks up his first feature win of the season.

(Woodhull, NY) The Swarthout Recycling sponsored night started the feature events off with the Crate Sportsman 30 lap special event. Right from the beginning, it was Brady Fultz who dominated, taking the lead near the 10-lap mark, and never looking back. Picking up his 2nd win this season, Fultz has been an occasional competitor at the high banks, always putting on a great race. Fultz also picked up a heat win, along with Art Goodier and Roger Williams. Finishing in the runner up spot was Josh Nobriga, followed by Brett Buono, and Connor Brown, with Don Lawson rounding out the top five.
The Insinger Performance 358 Modifieds were next up to hit the bullring. A major wreck right on the front stretch of first lap collecting multiple cars and took out top competitor Billy VanPelt, with heavy damage to his car and an injury to his right hand. The wreck also claimed Casey Pavlick’s car, with Ken Peoples Sr., Steve Swarthout and Eric Williams all pulling away from the wreckage. After that, it was the Alan Rudalavage show, as he picked up his fourth win of the season. Ray Bliss Jr. ran his best race yet this year, as he picked up 2nd. Bliss and Rudalavage both picked up a heat win along with Tony Harris. Frank Dunning, Ron White, and Dale Welty rounded out the top five, with Ken Peoples Sr. having an impressive run as he finished 6th after being involved in the opening lap’s collision.
Switching up the order of events, the Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stocks took the stage next, with their 20-lap feature event. It was Joe Layfield who started on the poll and maintained his lead for the rest of the caution free race. Layfield held off top runners, Ted Morseman Jr. and Brett Marlatt who finished 2nd and 3rd, to pick up his 3rd feature win of the season. Jeredd Dennis, current point leader going into the night, managed to pick of a heat win but exited the feature event early with mechanical problems. This allowed Layfield to close the gap in points with his feature win and runner up heat finish, potentially making him the new point leader. Rounding out the top five it was Kane Stebbins and Kurt Stebbins.
The 360 Late Models saw a new face in Victory lane as, Brian Knowles picked up his first feature win of the season. Although Knowles started on the pole, Jarred Hill gave Knowles a good run for the win as he consistently hunted Knowles down and made it a wheel to wheel race through the high banked corners. Unfortunately, in the final laps Hill had to take it pit side with a flat, allowing Greg Galligan to move up to the runner up position, with Glen Whritenour finishing a close third. Mikey Wonderling Jr., and Dustin Waters rounded out the top five, with Wonderling, Knowles and Galligan picking up the heat wins.
In the Signs Plus of Kanona Mini Stocks, it was Ron Dailey Jr. who claimed the checkered flags, picking up his 11th feature win of the season. Dave Dubois Jr. led the opening laps before Rich Sharpsteen chased him down and took over the lead, with Dailey working his way up from the back of the pack to run side by side with Sharpsteen. After making the pass for the lead, Dailey still had Sharpsteen keeping him within striking distance, until he exited pit side with mechanical problems. In the end, it was Dave Dubois Jr. who finished 2nd, followed by Chip Warner, Jeremy Potrzebowski, and Tracy Dunn. Picking up the heat wins it was Dailey and Jason Warner.
The Birdsall father and son duo, once again dominated the high banks in the FWD division, as Billy Joe Birdsall picked up his 6th feature win with son, Joe Birdsall finishing second. Starting on the pole, Billy Joe Birdsall broke away from the rest of the class and never looked back leading most of the race half a lap ahead of the rest. Cody Baker, Ronnie Hill, Gary Baker, Joe Birdsall, Jacob Buck and Adam DelGrosso ran a hard a race as they all swapped top five positions throughout the whole 20 lap event. However in the end, it was Joe Birdsall who finished 2nd, followed by Cody Baker, Jacob Buck, and Gary Baker, with Hill finishing 6th and DelGrosso having to end early due to mechanical issues. Picking up the heat wins it was Gary Baker and Billy Joe Birdsall.
On Saturday July 30th Lamb & Webster, along with Insinger Performance will present a 360/410 Sprint Challenge with $2,500 to win, in addition to a regular Big 6 show.

FIRST TIME WINNERS DOMINATE AT WOODHULL RACEWAY
Jeremy Potrzebowski, Brett Buono, & Mike Bills collect their first feature wins of the season.

(Woodhull, NY) The Troups Creek Auto & Gunlocke Corporation sponsored night started off right with first time feature winner Jeremy Potrzebowski finding his way into victory lane for the Signs Plus of Kanona Mini Stock feature event. Potrzebowski worked his way through traffic as he started 14th and after running wheel to wheel with current point leader Ron Daily Jr., Potrzebowski finally made the pass for the lead and the rest was history. Daily hung on for 2nd, as John Hand Jr., Tracy Dunn and JR Hoppe rounded out the top 5.
Next up for the night, it was the LaBarron Brother’s Repair and Part FWDs as Billy Joe Birdsall started up front and stayed there for the rest of the race, picking up his 5th feature win of the season. Birdsall’s biggest obstacle of the race was the lap traffic that he carefully maneuvered his way through as son Joe Birdsall stayed within striking distance as he finished 2nd. Last week’s feature winner, Ronnie Hill worked his way up from the back of the pack to finish 3rd, followed by James Howard, and Carl LeBarron.
Like the Mini Stocks, the Insinger Performance Parts’ 358 Modifieds also had a new face in victory lane, as Mike Bills finally claimed the checkered flags. Starting on the poll by virtue of a good re-draw, Bills led the whole race as he worked his way through lap traffic to land himself in victory lane. A top contender all year, Bills has masterfully wheeled his Spiegel Recycling sponsored machine around the high banks each week. Dgien closely chased Bills down finishing 3rd, as Billy VanPelt made a pass for 2nd late in the race. Rounding out the top five it was Dylan Dewert and Donnie Lawson, as Alan Rudalavage worked his way from the back to claim 6th.    358 Modified qualifying heats went to VanPelt, Rudalavage and Frank Dunning
Staying in tune with 358s, the S&W Awards and Photos’ Crate Sportsman also welcomed a first time feature winner into victory lane as Brett Buono picked up the checkered flags. Leading the whole race, Buono managed to fend off multiple feature winner Ajay Potrzebowski who came from mid-pack. Connor Brown ran one of his best races as he found the hook up on the high side as he held his own with the top guns such as Potrzebowski, Don Lawson, Stacey Jackson, and Roger Williams. The young driver’s high bank wheeling landed him in 3rd place, behind Potrzebowski, as Stacy Jackson and Don Lawson rounded out the top five.  Crate Sportsman heat wins were claimed by Art Goodier, Potrzebowski and Gary Lampman.
The Napa 360 late models suffered from a case of yellow fever early in their feature event and they struggled to shake it off as the race continued. In the end, it was Jeremy Wonderling who found his 5th feature win this season after making the pass around Mick Seeley who led multiple laps, and wound up finishing 2nd. Rookie contender Carl Hughes finished a strong 3rd, followed by veteran competitor Fast Freddie Amann and the continually improving Jared Hill. Heats were claimed by Hughes, Brady and Jeremy Wonderling.
In the Street Stock feature, it was Joe Layfield picking up his second trip to victory lane this season after leading the race start to finish. Finishing a strong second was Brett Marlatt who kept Layfield within striking distance throughout the entire 20 lap distance.  After wheeling Glenn Whritenour’s #15 in the Late Model feature, Teddy Morseman found himself back in the seat of his Street Stock as he finished 3rd. Rounding out the top five was Kurt Stebbins and Jeff Smith.
In addition to the regular Woodhull classes, the CRSA 305 sprints made a special appearance to put on an excellent show as Jeff Taylor held off Jamie Christian in the final laps of their 25 lap feature to pick up the win. Tyler Rice, Dan Hennessy, and rookie Brittany Tresch rounded out the top five.  Earlier evening heat race victories were picked up by Taylor, Christian an Phil Peworchick Jr.

AL RUDALAVAGE ENDS BILLY VANPELT’S WIN STREAK AT THE WOODHULL RACEWAY.

Greg Galligan and Rich Sharpsteen bag first feature wins of 2011.  Dennis, Potrzebowski and Hill all repeat winners.

(Woodhull, NY)  Al Rudalavage capped off a perfect weekend this past Saturday at the Woodhull Raceway by winning the 25 lap 358 Modified feature event.  Fresh off a feature win the night before at Penn Can, Rudalavage was able to back it up with a popular win at the historic Steuben County oval.  In doing so, the veteran wheelman from Eynon, Pa. who makes the three hour tow to Woodhull on a regular basis ended the four race win streak of Billy VanPelt.  However, with a hard fought runner-up finish by VanPelt it solidified his position at the top of the point battle.  Mike Bills checked in with another strong performance by finishing third followed by Donnie Lawson and Dylan Dewert.  Bob Davis led the charge of the next group of five across the line followed by Ron White, Frank Dunning, Brent Boyer and Casey Pavlick.  Boyer, who has become a Woodhull regular over the past month, is beginning to hit his stride and Pavlick recovered nicely from last weeks engine woes to register a top ten finish.

Greg Galligan is just to tough to keep out of victory lane as the veteran 360 Late Model driver finally hit pay dirt for his first win of the 2K11 season.  Since the beginning of the year, Galligan has shown signs of winning with his potent MOPAR powered machine, however a variety of different scenarios including flat tires, poor starting positions and just plain bad luck have kept him from winning.  However, last week Galligan was not to be denied as he and his team put all the pieces together and claimed the 25 lap NAPA 360 Late Model feature win.  Buck Payne had his best finish of the year by finishing second chased across the line by Glen Whritenour, Clint Button and Dusty Waters.  For Button it was his best ever feature finish since entering the tough 360 LM group several years ago.  Six thru ten were Jerry Wilson, Cecil LaBarron, Mick Seeley, Fred Amann and Sparky Hills.

Ajay Potrzebowski again showed the way in the 25 lap Crate Sportsman feature event as he picked up win number 5 on the year and once again proved to be the man to beat in 2011 Crate action at Woodhull.  Mike Jackson continued his strong 2011 performance with a fine runner-up finish followed across the line by Connor Brown, Art Goodier and Stacy Jackson.  For Brown it was his second consecutive top five finish for the teenage pilot as he was surrounded by seasoned veterans most at least two to three times his age.  Last weeks feature winner, Roger Williams had another strong run by finishing sixth followed by Rod Mullen, Bill Williams, Mike Buchanan and Doug Kline.

Jeredd Dennis made it win number 6 on the season as he once again found victory lane in the tough Street Stock Division.  With the win it solidifies his point lead entering the second half of the 2011 points campaign.  Joe Layfield again lived up to his Mr. Top 5 nickname as he chased Dennis across the finish line followed by Teddy Morseman, Brett Marlatt and last weeks winner, Kurt Stebbins.  Cory McConnell made his first trip to Woodhull this season pay off by finishing sixth followed by Jeff Smith, Chuck Pruden, George Parker and Kane Stebbins.

Ron Daily Jr. will have to wait at least one more week to try and make it double digit feature wins in the Mini Stock Division as a determined Rich Sharpsteen II picked up his first of the year.  After coming up a bit short to Daily on several occasions over the past few years at the high banked one-third of a mile red clay oval it was Sharpsteen’s night to shine as he held off Daily to pick up the win.  Daily was able to hold on for second followed by J.R. Hoppe, Jeremy Potrzebowski with John Hand JR. rounding the top five.  Jason Warner led the charge of the next group chased across the line by Chip Warner, Tracy Dunn, Brandi Daily and Rick Amidon.

Ronnie Hill made it two wins on the season in the Front Wheel Drive Division as he was able to hold off a determined Adam DelGrosso who is still looking for his first ever feature victory.  Billy Joe Birdsall continues to have a career year by finishing third followed by Cody Baker and Joseph Birdsall.  Jacob Buck, Brian Grant Sr., James Howard, Brandon Brewer and Elmer Smith rounded the top ten.

As an added attraction James Howard Motorsports put up the cash for a unique 3 on 3 Challenge event pitting three Mini Stocks against three FWD machines in a special 8 lap dash for the cash with Adam DelGrosso in a FWD picking up the win.

ANNUAL JIM WILLIAMS MEMORIAL RACES AT THE WOODHULL RACEWAY FINDS MANY FAMILIAR FACES IN VICTORY LANE.

(Woodhull, NY)  Billy VanPelt kept his composure throughout the 25 lap 358 modified feature and claimed his fourth straight feature event at the Woodhull Raceway.  After starting deep in the field, VanPelt used the high line to perfection, moved into the top spot near the half way mark and was able to hold off a fast closing Frank Dunning and Mike Bills to pick up the win and the Jim Williams Memorial Trophy.  With the lead group in heavy lap traffic over the last few laps it was not a sure bet for VanPelt as he tip toed his way thru sometimes two and three wide lap cars with Bills right on his back bumper.  However, VanPelt was able to hold on for the win with Dunning just nipping Bills at the line settling for second as the lead trio was all within a few cars lengths of each other at the finish line.  Grant Hilfiger put on a late race charge to finish fourth while Kenny Peoples rounded out the top five.  Six thru ten were Donnie Lawson, Kevin Chilson, Dylan Dewert, Bob Davis and Brett Boyer.  For both Davis and Dewert it was a run from the last starting row.  Qualifying heats were picked up by Lucas Schroth, Brian Doolittle, Davis and VanPelt.

A stellar field of Crate Sportsman was once again on hand at the Woodhull Raceway with a who’s who list of drivers all staking their claim to the Jim Williams Memorial Trophy.  Roger Williams, a Woodhull regular and the nephew of the late former track owner was not going to be denied on this night as he quickly bolted into the lead and never looked back in claiming his second feature win of the 2011 season.  Josh Nobriga has made the move into the Crate Sportsman Division pay off as has the experience and equipment to win on any given night.  Nobriga was able to move thru traffic and get to the second spot, however his quest to become a first time winner in the tough Woodhull Raceway Crate Sportsman Class fell a few car lengths short as he had to settle for second place at the finish followed by Connor Brown who had led early in the event.  Ajay
Potrzebowski came from deep in the field to claim fourth with Art Goodier rounding the top five finishers.  Russ Morseman led the charge of the next group of five across the line chased there by Eric DeLong, Brett Buono, Stacy Jackson and Bob Johnson.  Earlier evening heat wins were claimed by Jackson, Buono and Williams.

Like the Crate Sportsman and the Modifieds before them it was once again a huge turnout of cars and stars in the 360 Late Model Division with putting qualifying heats at a premium.  John Waters, Bruce Miller, Mike Wonderling Jr. and Mike Wonderling Sr. were able to nail down heat race wins with Jeremy Wonderling taking the checkered flag in the consolation event.  As the twenty four car feature rumbled to the opening green flag it was second generation driver, Jason Knowles jumping out into the early lead.  Knowles, who had picked up his first ever Woodhull Raceway feature win earlier in the season look poised to visit victory lane again as he was able to maintain the top spot throughout the first half of the twenty five lap feature.  Glen Whritenour and Bruce Miller were both able to keep the pressure on Knowles and moved by to take over the top two spots and that is just how they would finish at the checkered flag with Whritenour taking his second feature win of the year by holding off Miller who finished second, Knowles third, Dusty Waters fourth and Mike Wonderling JR. fifth.  Six thru ten were Jared Hill, Brian Knowles, Jeremy Wonderling and Cecil LaBarron from the back of the field with Buck Payne rounding the top ten.

The Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stocks were on the track for their twenty lap feature and in typical fashion put on a terrific show for the huge crowd in attendance with plenty of two and three wide racing throughout the field.  Kurt Stebbins was able to shake the bad luck gremlins off earlier in the year as he picked up his first ever feature win at Woodhull.  With confidence and topnotch equipment on his side, Stebbins was able to move to the top spot early in the event and cruise to his third feature of the season.  Current high point man, Jeredd Dennis kept up the pressure on Stebbins throughout most of the event, but had to settle for second place at the checkered flag followed by Teddy Morseman, Mike Williams and Kane Stebbins.  Brett Marlatt recovered from a lap one flat tire to lead the charge of the next group of five across the line followed by Josh Parker, Jeff Smith, Joe Layfield and Tom McGlynn.  Heat wins went to Layfield, Kane Stebbins and Morseman.

An uncommon number of yellow flags slowed the pace throughout most of the Mini Stock feature event; however it did not stop Ron Daily JR. from posting his ninth feature win of the season and propel him into a nearly insurmountable point advantage as the season nears the half way mark.  In typical Daily style he methodically worked his way from deep in the field timing his passes to perfection.  After a spirited battle with Rich Sharpsteen for several laps, Daily was able to take over the lead and never looked back.  Sharpsteen had to settle for the runner-up spot at the finish followed by Joe Povoski who came from the rear of the field twice to nail down the third spot.  J.R. Hoppe came from last to fourth while John Hand Jr. put on yet another consistent drive to finish fifth.  Chip Warner, Tom Kleintop, Rick Amidon, Jake Evingham and Tracy Dunn rounded the top five finishers.

The Front Wheel Drive Class rounded out the Big 6 Show on Jim Williams Memorial Night with Billy Joe Birdsall making it back to back feature wins and four total thus far on the 2011 campaign.  However, it did not come easy by any means for Birdsall as he had to fight his way past a number of top runners in the division to nail down the feature win.  At the checkered flag Birdsall was followed by Gary Baker who just nipped his team mate Ron Hill at the line.  James Howard and Jacob Buck rounded out the top five with only a few car lengths separating the lead group.   Cody Baker continued his string of top ten finishes by coming home in the sixth spot followed by Adam DelGrosso, Jeremy Seeley, Brandon Brewer and Scott Wedd.

Due to the early evening showers which pushed the original start time back almost two hours there were no qualifying heat races for the Mini Stock or FWD Classes, however an extra five laps was added onto each of the classes feature events.

The massive crowd in attendance was treated to with out question one of the region’s largest fireworks displays.  The full 30 minute show featured a variety of sky rockets and ground effects all culminating with the traditional high powered grand finale which once again received a standing ovation.

Next Saturday, Woodhull will open the month of July with a Regular Big 6 Show.  As a special promotion, James Howard Motorsports will sponsor a Three on Three Challenge where three Mini Stocks will take on Three Front Wheel Drives in a $100 to win event.
It will also be Spaulding Foundation Night at the track with Mt. Dew on board as the nightly sponsor.

TROUPSCREEK AUTO AND THE GUNLOCKE CORPORATION PRESENT THE 305 SPRINTS AT THE WOODHULL RACEWAY.

July 9, 2011 event to include a Regular Big 6 Show.

(Woodhull, NY)  For the third consecutive year, the CSRA 305 Sprints will make an appearance at the Woodhull Raceway.  The Mike VanDusen led organization will make the trek to the popular Steuben County oval and if history is to repeat itself the loyal fans of Woodhull can expect to witness a spectacular show of the 305 Sprints.

Also on the card it will be a regular show of the Insinger Performance 358 Modifieds, the S&W Awards and Photos Crate Sportsman, the NAPA 360 Late Models, the Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stocks along with the Signs Plus of Kanona Mini Stocks and the ever popular LaBarron Brothers Repair and Parts Front Wheel Drive Division.

The night of action is presented by Dale LeBarron, his family and staff of TroupsCreek Auto in Troupsburg, along with the Gunlocke Corporation of Wayland.

JEREMY WONDERLING WINS SCOTT DENNISON MEMORIAL AT THE WOODHULL RACEWAY

(Woodhull, NY)  In what has turned out to be one of the more higher profile 360 Late Model events at the Woodhull Raceway, The Scott Dennison Memorial has become a must attend event for most of the top teams in the division.  Named in honor of the man who tragically lost his life in a freak exhibition 4 Wheel ATV accident at the track in 2004, the seventh annual running of the event found its first two time winner as Jeremy Wonderling took full advantage of his up front starting position and cruised to the popular win.  Jeremy and father, Mike Wonderling Senior led the twenty-four car field to the opening green and throughout several re-starts he was able to maintain the front spot throughout the entire twenty five lap event.  For Mr. Excitement, it was his fourth trip to victory lane at Woodhull during the first half of the 2011 race season and he has truly established himself as the man to beat anytime he enters the confines of the Woodhull Raceway.  After a race long battle for second Greg Galligan was able to come across the finish line in the runner-up spot holding off Mike Wonderling Sr. who finished third. A steady performance by Glen Whritenour found the defending Woodhull Raceway Track Champion finishing fourth with Brian Knowles rounding the top five finishers.  Six thru ten were Dusty Waters, Greg Young, Jared Hill, Fred Amann and Mike Wonderling Jr.
Qualifying heat wins were claimed by Jeremy Wonderling, Mike Wonderling Sr., Brian Knowles and Jared Hill.  Fred Amann picked up the checkered flag in the consolation event.

For the third consecutive race event, Billy VanPelt was able to make his way to the front of the 358 Modified feature event and cruise onto his third feature win of the season.  VanPelt as back in his regular Woodhull ride after a mid-week show win last Wednesday in his brand new ROC tour car and as the old saying goes, “Second verse, same as the first” only in this case it was a three peat for the popular Harrison Valley, PA. speedster.  Donnie Lawson drove thru the field to briefly challenge VanPelt late in the going; however VanPelt was not to be denied as he held on for the win.  Lawson continues his impressive 2K11 season with another solid top five finish by holding on for second place chased across the line by Ron White who continues to impress after finding victory lane a few weeks ago.  Mike Bills and Bob Davis rounded the top five.  Joe Dgien led the charge of the next group of five across the line followed by Steve Hartman Jr., Frank Dunning, Gil Tegg Jr. and Dave Dubois.
Heat wins went to White, Mike Bills and Tegg Jr.

Ajay Potrzebowski has quickly become the crowd favorite at the Woodhull Raceway and not just in the Crate Sportsman Class of competition as when the pink and blue 72 is on the track all eyes are on the Elmira, NY wheelman.  Potrzebowski was once again on his game this last Saturday and after a spirited battle with then race leader, Brady Fultz he was able to pull away to yet another convincing win, his fourth of the season.  Fultz, making a rare Woodhull appearance once again found the high banks to his liking as he drove a flawless race to claim second at the finish followed by a fast closing Lynn Burrell for third.  Don Lawson and Art Goodier rounded the top five.  Six thru ten were Bob Johnson, Mike Buchanan, Connor Brown, Gary Lampman and Rod Mullen who recovered from a late race spin to round the top ten.
Heat wins went to Goodier, Potrzebowski, Roger Williams and Fultz while Kreg Crooker claimed the consolation event.

Joe Layfield has become the Mr. Top Five in the Street Stock Class at Woodhull.  Every week the veteran driver somehow finds his way into a top five finish and sooner or later the consistence would pay off with a win.  This past Saturday, Layfield was able to put all the pieces together and claim his first victory of the year, however it did not come easy by any standards as he had a whole pack of cars nipping at his rear bumper throughout the entire 20 lap affair.  In typical Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stock action it was three and four wide competition all race long with plenty of passing and lots of excitement for the fans.  When the checkered flag waved it was Joe Layfield by less than a car length over Teddy Morseman who settled for second, third was claimed by Kurt Stebbins while Jeredd Dennis crossed the line in fourth and Brett Marlatt fifth.  Kane Stebbins was next across the line for sixth with less than two seconds separating the top six.  Rookie competitor, Tom McGlynn came home for seventh followed by Gary Archer, Chuck Pruden and Josh Parker.
Early evening heat races were claimed by Layfield, Marlatt and Kane Stebbins.

Ron Daily Jr. got back on track after a two week hiatus from victory lane as he drove thru the field of Mini Stock competitors and cruised to win number 8 on the season.  Daily methodically worked his way to the front and once there opened up an insurmountable lead until late in the going when Jason Ketrow broke free of traffic and chased down Daily in the closing laps.  However, time ran out on Ketrow and Daily was able to pick-up the win with Ketrow in second.  Early race leader, Tracy Dunn came home for third followed by Rich Sharpsteen II and Rick Amidon rounding the top five. J.R. Hoppe led the charge of the next group of five across the line followed by Jason Warner, John Hand Jr., Tom Kleintop and Jordan Siri.
Heat wins were claimed by Daily, Ketrow and Chip Warner.

Last but certainly not least the Front Wheel Drive Class had their turn on the high banked one third of a mile red clay oval and without question it was a wild 20 lap feature with plenty of action throughout the entire field.  For more than half of the event, Ron Hill in a borrowed ride looked poised to claim the win, however Billy Joe Birdsall had other ideas as he was finally able to wear Hill down and came home with his third feature win of the season.  Hill did settle for second just barely over a fast closing Carl LeBarron who started last.  Mr. Consistency, Cody Baker was fourth while Joseph Birdsall rounded the top five. James “The Hammer” Howard put the hammer down and finished sixth chased there by Adam DelGrosso, Jacob Buck, Rookie Tyler Schenck and Matt Prescott.
Heats went to Baker, Buck and Billy Joe Birdsall.

The Mid-State Vintage Cars were on hand for their annual appearance at Woodhull and as always the fans were treated to the sights and sounds of yesteryear with a beautiful display of cars and stars that competed throughout upstate New York half a century ago.  Local favorites Bob Williams and Larry Doolittle claimed their respective class wins with Jim Hillimier making it a threesome in victory lane with his class win.

Next week it is the Jim Williams Memorial Trophy Races, chicken bbq and fireworks extravaganza.  Gates open at 4:30 with racing at 6:30.   The show is presented by Spiegel Recycling and Instant Heat Wood Pellets.

BILLY VANPELT CLAIMS WOODHULL RACEWAY BB/SB MODIFIED FEATURE.  GLEN WHRITENOUR CLAIMS TOPLESS 360 LM SHOW

Jeredd Dennis makes it win number 5 on the season in Street Stocks and Jim Money claims Open Mini Stock win.

(Woodhull, NY)  The Woodhull Raceway ran a rare mid-week special event on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 featuring a Big Block versus Small Block Modified 40 lap feature event.  Twenty-eight of the region’s top competitors showed up to try and tame the high banked one-third of a mile red clay oval and when it was all said and done it was Woodhull Raceway regular, Billy VanPelt taking the popular win in a brand new machine.  After a spirited battle with Al Rudalavage for the top spot, VanPelt was able to move away from the field and claim his second win of the 2011 campaign at Woodhull.  Rudalavage settled for the runner-up spot followed by Mike Bills who put on a steady drive for third, Curt VanPelt driving brother Billy’s regular Saturday night ride came home fourth with Dale Welty rounding the top five.  Six thru ten were Dylan Dewert, Donnie Lawson, Joe Dgien, Kevin Chilson and Ron White.  Heat wins went to Rudalavage, Bills, Welty and Bob Davis.
Ray Dann picked up the consolation win.

For the second consecutive year, the NAPA 360 Late Model Class took off the lids and went topless for their qualifying heat races and 25 lap feature event.
Defending Woodhull Raceway Track Champion, Glen Whritenour was able to play the waiting game to perfection as he kept his composure thru a barrage of late race yellow flags and claimed his first win of the 2011 season at the popular Steuben County oval.  Brian Knowles gave Whritenour fits throughout the closing laps, but had to settle for second place followed by Mike Wonderling Sr., Jason Knowles and John Waters.  Buck Payne led the charge of the next group of five across the line chased there by Greg Galligan from last spot, Carl Hughes, Cecil LaBarron and Sparky Hills.
Heat wins went to Mike Wonderling Jr., Bruce Miller and Jeremy Wonderling.

Jeredd Dennis and Teddy Morseman kept the fans on their feet for the entire 20 lap Morgan’s Auto Repair Open Street Stock feature.  Morseman looked poised to take his first win of he year, however Dennis had other ideas and a late race pass found Dennis taking his fifth feature checkered flag of the year.  Joe Layfield was able to slip by Morseman for second at the finish with Kurt Stebbins and Brett Marlatt rounding the top five finishers.  Six thru ten were Kane Stebbins, Chris Fisher, and Rich Sharpsteen with rookie contenders Trevor Tompkins and Ron Bates rounding put the top ten.
Heat wins were claimed by Fisher, Kurt Stebbins and Dennis.

The Signs Plus of Kanona Mini Stocks ran an Open Show as part of the June 15 event and Brewerton Speedway regular competitor, Jim Money made short work of the event winning in convincing manner.  Wendell Washington and Keith
Shay made it an all invader top three finish as current Woodhull Raceway high point competitor, Ron Daily Jr. was the first regular across the line with Dylan Cecci driving the Sharpsteen owned X machine rounding the top five finishers.  Tracy Dunn led the next group of five across the line followed by Jason Warner, Chip Warner, Eric Ellsworth and Rick Amidon.
Heat wins were won by Jason Warner, Cecci and Daily Jr.

Up next at Woodhull it’s the Annual Running of the Scott Dennison Memorial for the NAPA 360 Late Model Division in addition to a regular card.  The Mid-State Vintage Cars will also be on hand for the June 18 show.

RAIN THEN FOG DAMPERS WOODHULL RACEWAY JUNE 11 SHOW.

(Woodhull, NY)  A late afternoon downpour did not stop the Woodhull Raceway from making a valiant effort to try and get the June 11, 2011 show into the books.  After several hours of track drying and a 9:15 pm start time it was heavy fog that finally put the lid on the program.  All the Crate Sportsman heats and one Modified heat were in the books when the heavy fog rolled in knocking out any chance of completing the show.  With that a complete rain-out was declared.

Rain checks will be honored at either the Wednesday, June 15 or Saturday, June 18 Shows and the June 11 50/50 will roll over to June 18.

BILLY VANPELT, BRADY WONDERLING AND J.R. HOPPE ALL GRAB FIRST WINS OF THE SEASON AT WOODHULL.

Ajay Potrzebowski continues to dominate Crate Sportsman action. Jeredd Dennis and Joseph Birdsall also find victory lane.

(Woodhull, NY)  It has been a tough start to the 2011 race season at the Woodhull Raceway for Billy VanPelt.  The man who has completely dominated the race action for the past decade at the historic Steuben County oval has seen his share of tough luck in the first one quarter of the year.  However, that would all change last Saturday as VanPelt was on a mission and was not going to be denied a trip to victory lane.  For VanPelt it was a tough week leading up to the June 4 events as he had lost one of his close friends and former crew members to an accidental death.  In victory lane an obviously shake BVP dedicated his win to Mike Lewis as a somber crowed looked on.  Lewis of Ulysses, Pa. had been a big part of VanPelt’s early career before moving to the Charlotte/Mooresville, North Carolina area to pursue a career in NASCAR’s top division.

In the early laps of the 25 lap feature VanPelt was able to hold back current Woodhull high point man, Al Rudalavage with the only anxious moments coming late in the event as the lead duo weaved their way thru lap traffic.  Dylan Dewert made his way into third late in the event, but was to far back to mount any kind of a charge to the front and settled for third at the finish followed by Mike Bills and Dale Welty.  Six thru ten were Donnie Lawson, Dave Dubois, Kevin Chilson, Ron White and rookie contender, Nate Delong.
Heat wins went to Dewert, Rudalavage and VanPelt.

Brady Wonderling hopped back into the Schuyler Family Racing 57j filling in for his vacationing brother, Mike Jr. and found victory lane for the first time in 2K11, but not after a spirited battle with Greg Galligan for most of the 25 lap NAPA 360 Late Model feature.  Once out in front Wonderling was able to move away as Galligan started to loose grip and faded to fourth at the finish.  Glen Whritenour patiently moved thru traffic and was credited with second at the finish chased there by Jason Knowles.  Rookie contender, Dustin Waters continues to impress by rounding out the top five finishers.  Jared Hill led the next group of five across the line followed by Buck Payne, Carl Hughes, Mick Seeley and Clint Button.
Heat wins were claimed by Carl Hills, Jeremy Wonderling and Bruce Miller.
The $500 to win King of the Ring Dash for Cash presented by TroupsCreek Auto was won by Bruce Miller.

Ajay Potrzebowski continued to dominate the S&W Awards and Photos Crate Sportsman feature event by once again making one of his patented moves from the rear of the field.  After getting swept up in an early race caution, the Elmira, NY speedster quickly moved thru traffic and back to the third spot and after a tough battle with then race leaders Art Goodier and Rod Mullen was able to secure the top spot and cruise to his third feature win of the year.  Goodier and Mullen finished in that order with Mike Jackson and Bob Johnson rounding out the top five.  Bill Williams came home for sixth chased across the line by Brett Buono, Kreg Crooker, Roger Williams and Connor Brown.
Heats went to Mike Buchanan, Lynn Burrell and Potrzebowski.

Jeredd Dennis made very short work of the Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stock feature by solidifying his status as one of the men to beat at Woodhull during the 2011 campaign as he cruised to the 20 lap feature win, his fourth of the year.  The best racing of the night was for second place as Teddy Morseman was able to hold on at the checkered flag holding off a whole pack of cars including Kurt Stebbins who finished third, Kane Stebbins in fourth and Brett Marlatt fifth.  Mike Williams led the next group of five across the line followed by Joe Layfield, Chuck Pruden in his first appearance of the year, Gary Archer and rookie contender, Tom McGlynn.
The three earlier evening heat races were claimed by Marlatt, Kane and Kurt Stebbins.

Ron Daily Jr.’s seven week reign of terror over the rest of the Signs Plus Mini Stock field came to an end last week as a cut tire during the mid way portion of the 20 lap feature cut down any chance he had of continuing his perfect 2011 performance.  J.R Hoppe got to the front in a hurry and after having to stave off relentless pressure from first time 2011 Woodhull Raceway invader, Jeremy Potrzebowski was able to hold on for the “W”.  In victory lane a jubilant Hoppe praised his team and car owner for giving him the equipment to contend in the tough Mini Stock Division.  Finishing third behind Hoppe and Potrzebowski at the finish was John Hand Jr., Chris Woodard with Rick Amidon rounding the top five.  Six thru ten were Jason Warner after coming from last, Daily recovered to finish seventh followed by Jordon Siri, John Hand Sr. with Brandi Daily rounding the top ten.
Heat wins went to Daily Jr. and Potrzebowski.

The last feature of the night was without question the most exciting as the LaBarron Brothers Repair and Parts Front Wheel Drive class took to the high banks.  Ron Hill was able to get to the point quickly and led in the early going, however he was finally swept up by an onslaught of hard chargers including Carl LeBarron in a borrowed ride who looked poised to win his first of 2K11.  With the laps winding down and a blanket finish becoming more and more apparent LeBarron led the final lap.  However exiting turn four and heading towards the checkered flag, Joseph Birdsall was able to pull ahead and grab the win as Cody Baker also snuck by LeBarron to claim the runner up spot.  A disappointed Carl LeBarron had to settle for third followed by James Howard while Hill drifted to fifth.  Less than a second separated the top five.  Six thru ten were Billy Joe Birdsall, Brian Grant Sr., Jacob Buck, Matt Prescott and Elmer Smith.
Heat wins were claimed by Hill, Baker and Billy Joe Birdsall.

Next weekend at Woodhull it will be a Regular Big 6 Show presented by Machuga Contractors and Bennett’s Used Auto Parts, both of Bath.
It will also be Racin with Mason’s Night as any active Mason along with a guest will see free admission into the speedway.  Proper identification is required.

Gates for the June 11 event open at 4:30 with racing at 6:30 and for more information go to www.woodhullraceway.com.

WOODHULL RACEWAY TO PRESENT WEDNESDAY NIGHT SPECIAL ON JUNE 15, 2011

Big Block/Small Block Modifieds to run 40 lap special paying $2,000 to win. The 360 LM go topless and race for $777 to win.  Open Street Stocks and Open Mini Stocks are also on the card.

(Woodhull, NY)  As part of the 2011 schedule events at the Woodhull Raceway the track has included one lone Wednesday night special event.

On June 15 the Big and Small Block Modifieds will combine and headline the event running a 40 lap feature with $2,000 going to the winner.  Also in action it will be a regular show of the Morgan’s Auto Repair Open Street Stocks as well as the Signs Plus of Kanona Open Mini Stock Divisions.  However, the high light of the night could very well be the NAPA 360 Late Model’s as for the second consecutive year the popular weekly division at Woodhull will remove the lids and go topless in a special $777 to win event.

“With this being a work day event our goal is to get everyone in and out of here at a descent hour.  It promises to be an action filled night with plenty of racing, however we will keep things moving along to complete the show in a timely manner.”  That according to track owner, Ted White.

The winners of the BB/SB Modified, Open Street and Open Mini Stock features will all receive guaranteed starting sports into the Oct. 1, 2011 events as part of the 2nd Annual Bull Ring Challenge.

Gates open on June 15 at 4:30 pm.

The Whitesville House located on Main Street in downtown Whitesville, NY will be onboard to sponsor the event.  For Buck and Linda of the Whitesville House it will be a night of relaxation away from the rigors of owning and operating a full time restaurant/tavern.
Joining the Whitesville House will Dgien Trucking of Howard, NY.  For Andy Dgien, his staff members and family it too means a break from the daily grind of their highly successful trucking company.  Dgien Trucking has been a big part of Ted White’s growth at Woodhull.

DAVIS AND WHITE CLAIM TWIN 20 358 MODIFIED FEATURES AT THE WOODHULL RACEWAY.

John Hargrave pick’s up first ever Crate Sportsman win, Wonderling Jr., Dennis, Daily Jr. and Birdsall also find victory lane.

(Woodhull, NY)  It was the Annual George Williams Memorial Trophy Races last Saturday night at the Woodhull Raceway and after yet another week of heavy rains, the skies parted late in the afternoon allowing track owner, Ted White and his crew to get the show into the books.

Twin 20 lap features for the Insinger Performance 358 Modifieds was the high light of the night with two new faces finding victory lane.  In the first Twin 20, Bob Davis was the winner after withstanding countless yellow flags to claim the win.  On each restart Davis was able to use his Ford power to maintain the top spot and pick-up win number one of 2011.  He was chased across the line by Dave Dubois, Donnie Lawson, Steve Hartman Jr. with Brian Doolittle rounding out the top five.  Six thru ten were Billy VanPelt, Kevin Chilson, Tim Guild, Frank Dunning and Ron White.

Opening night heat $100 heat wins were claimed by Dubois, VanPelt and Mike Bills.

In the night cap 20 lap feature for the Might 358 Modifieds it was Rochester, NY’s Ron White picking up his first ever feature event at Woodhull.  After years of trying, White arrived at the track with a brand new machine and nailed the set-up for the second Twin 20 event and clearly outdistanced second place finisher, Donnie Lawson by nearly a full straight a way.  Gil Tegg Jr. had his best finish of the season by finishing third followed by Billy VanPelt and Frank Dunning.  Chris Clark in his first outing of 2011 led the charge of the second group of five across the line followed by Dylan Dewert, Dave Dubois, Josh Smith and Kenny Peoples Jr.

Like Ron White in the 358 Modified Class, John Hargrave in the Crate Sportsman Division had struggled mightily over the past year.  However, Hargrave has found some real speed in 2K11 and proved last Saturday that he is a contender on any given race night.  It appeared as though Rod Mullen was poised to win his first ever Crate Sportsman feature, however numerous yellow flags kept Hargrave within striking distance and with just two laps to go was able to make the pass and hold on for the win.  Mullen settled for a disappointing runner-up finishing spot followed by A-Jay Potrzebowski, Mike Jackson and Art Goodier.  Roger Williams was next across the line in sixth followed by Brett Buono, Bill Williams, Mike Buchanan and Brandon Butler.
Heat wins went to Josh Nobriga, Roger Williams and Bob Johnson.

The NAPA 360 Late Models were up next for their 25 lap feature and like the Modifieds and Crate Sportsman before them could no put consecutive green flag laps together with a rash of yellow flags slowing the event.  When the checkered flag did wave it was Mike Wonderling Jr. in a borrowed ride picking up win number one of 2011.  Wonderling Jr. slid into the seat of one of the Dale LeBarron owned machines, found the set up to his liking and cruised to the popular win.  Making it an all Wonderling top three found Jeremy Wonderling nailing down the runner-up spot after a spirited battle with father, Mike Wonderling Sr. who had to settle for third. Cecil LaBarron put on a steady drive to finish fourth while Dustin Waters had one of his best runs as a rookie in rounding out the top five.  Greg Galligan was next across the line followed by Jared Hill, Greg Young, Wally Wade and Mick Seeley.
Heat wins were claimed by Brady and Mike Wonderling Sr., as well as Greg Galligan

The Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stocks were up next and Jeredd Dennis made very short work of the eighteen car starting field as he quickly blasted to the front and cruised to his third feature win of the 2011 season.  For Dennis it was an extra meaningful victory lane as one of his primary sponsors, The Elkland Moose was there to present him the George Williams Memorial Trophy as one of the nightly event sponsors.  Brett Marlatt continued his impressive string of top five finishes as he claimed second spot followed by Teddy Morseman Jr., Kane Stebbins and Mr., Top Five, Joe Layfield.  Last weeks winner, Kurt Stebbins led the charge of the next group of five across the line chased there by Brett Crawford, Russ Morseman, and Mike Williams while Cliff Moss rounded out the top ten.
Heats went to Marlatt and Kurt Stebbins.

Ron Daily Jr. kept his perfect 2011 season in tact as he once again dominated the Mini Stock feature event.  For Daily it was win number 6 as he once again started at the near of the pack and with very few yellow flags moved to the lead and cruised to the win.  Chris Woodard was second at the finish with Tracy Dunn finishing out the top three podium finishers.  J.R. Hoppe was fourth at the checkered flag followed by John Hand Jr., Rick Amidon, Jason Warner, Jason Gleason, Brandi Daily and Dave Dubois Jr.
Heat wins went to Daily Jr. and Warner.

Joseph Birdsall was able to get to the point early on in the Front Wheel Drive feature and never looked back in winning his second feature win of the year.  Last weeks winner, Ron Hill was able to break free of traffic late in the event, but never had the stuff to catch Birdsall and had to settle for second place as Cody Baker finished third, Billy Joe Birdsall fourth and James Howard fifth.  Gary Baker led the next group across the line followed by Brian Grant Sr., Jason Buck, Adam Delgrosso and Jamie Freeman.  The event was red flagged early on into the 20 lap event after a multi car tangle mid-way down the back stretch found Jeremy Seeley taking a multiple time barrel roll out of the ball park.  Seeley was able to get out of the car, but was taken by local ambulance after complaining of a left wrist injury.
Heat wins went to Joseph Birdsall and Jamie Freeman.

Next Saturday, June 4 it will be the Annual Fireman’s Appreciation Night at Woodhull presented by BRICO Technologies with any card carrying fireman or rescue worker admitted free.  Gates open at 4:30 with racing at 6:30 pm.

DONNIE LAWSON IN 358 MODIFIEDS AND KURT STEBBINS IN STREET STOCKS WIN FIRST EVER AT THE WOODHULL RACEWAY.

A-Jay Potrzebowski goes back to back in Crate Sportsman, Daily Jr. remains perfect in Mini Stocks and Hill wins first of 2011.

Hebing wins Patriot Sprint A-Main.

(Woodhull, NY)  Donnie Lawson has become a household name over the past handful of years primarily in Crate Sportsman competition.  After winning back to back track titles at Woodhull in Crate action, the second generation Addison, NY speedster has changed his focus to the high powered Insinger Performance 358 Modified Class at Woodhull for 2011.  Having competed full time with the Modifieds several years ago before moving to the Crate Division, Lawson has rejoined Woodhull’s top division and made noise right from opening night with solid weekly finishes.  Last week he took full advantage of an upfront starting position, waited for then race leader, Mike Bills to stumble, held off a relentless late race charge from current high point man, Al Rudalavage and nailed down the popular win.  The opening seven laps found great racing throughout the entire field and then yellow fever took over the event with no less than ten cautionary periods slowing the pace.  However, each time Lawson was able to keep everyone at bay to claim win number one of his career at Woodhull in the 358 Class.  Rudalavage was able to solidify his number one point’s position with the well deserved runner-up finish after starting eleventh on the grid.  Mike Bills finished third at the checkered followed by Bob Davis with Jamie Batzel in a rare Woodhull appearance rounding the top five.  Six thru ten were Gil Tegg Jr., Frank Dunning, Kevin Chilson, Ray Bliss Jr. and Kenny Peoples Jr.

Heat wins went to Bills, Lucas Schroth and Bliss.

Chuck Hebing once again proved that he can master a tight bull ring like the Woodhull Raceway as he made a mid race pass for the lead over Bryan Howland and cruised to the Patriot Sprint Tour win, his second in as many tries over the past two season on the high banked one third of a mile clay oval.  Howland held on for second followed by Tim Kelly, Don Adamczak and Jared Zimbardi.  More information will be included in a special Patriot Sprint Tour release.

A-Jay Potrzebowski nailed the set-up to perfection in driving from mid pack to claim his second consecutive win in the S&W Awards and Photos Crate Sportsman Class at Woodull.  Ray Smith led early and looked poised to get his first win at Woodhull in a long time, however there was no stopping Potrzebowski on this night as Smith had to settle for second, John Hargrave was third, Bill Williams made a late charge for fourth while Connor Brown rounded the top five finishers.  Like the 358 Modifieds no less than ten caution flags slowed the event with Eric DeLong leading the charge of the second group of five across the line as he was chased there by Art Goodier, Stacy Jackson, Josh Nobriga and Brandon Butler.

Heat wins went to Stacy Jackson, Don Lawson and Mike Jackson.

The Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stocks were up next for their 20 lap feature and with the speed that he has shown over the past three weeks everyone knew it was a matter of time before Kurt Stebbins would claim a feature victory.  This night he was not going to be denied as he blasted thru the field and once out front never looked back to claim his first ever at Woodhull.  Brett Marlatt put on another steady drive to finish second followed by Teddy Morseman Jr., Joe Layfield and Kane Stebbins both from last to fourth and fifth respectfully.  Mike Williams was sixth followed by Jeredd Dennis, Butch Dibble and Rookies Tom McGlynn and Trevor Tompkins.

Heats were claimed by Marlatt and Kane Stebbins.

Ron Daily Jr. kept his perfect record in tact with his fifth straight feature win in Signs Plus of Kanona Mini Stock competition as he mowed the field down and cruised to the win.  Jason Warner who led early in the 20 lap feature settled for second followed by J.R. Hoppe, Chip Warner and Dennis Erdmann.  Chris Woodard rallied from the back of the pack to claim sixth chased there by Rick Amidon, Jeff Erdmann, Derrick Puryear and Jason Gleason.

Heats were won by Daily and Hoppe.

The LaBarron Brothers Repair and Parts Front Wheel Drive Division saw yet another new face in victory lane for the 2011 campaign as Ronnie Hill picked up the checkered flag for his first win of the year.  Hill had to wrestle with his team mate, Gary Baker for several laps before solidifying his position at the front of the field and had to hold off a fast closing Joe Birdsall with Baker coming home in third at the finish with Cody Baker and Billy Joe Birdsall completing the top five.  Six thru ten were Brian Grant Sr., Adam DelGrosso, James Howard, Jacob Buck and Nate Freeland.

Heat went to the father/son duo of Billy Joe and Joe Birdsall.

Next week it will be the Annual George Williams Memorial featuring Twin 20 lap features for the Insinger Performance 358 Modifieds in addition to all of Woodhull’s Regular Card of Events.

Sunday, May 29 it will be a fun filled day with a Garden Tractor Pull at the track then on Monday, May 30 it will be the Annual Memorial Day Races featuring the return of the BRP Can Am Series for the 360 Late Model Division.

Chuck Hebing Handles High Banks of Woodhull for Patriot Sprint Tour Win

Rich Vleck, WOODHULL, NY (May 21, 2011)- The Woodhull Raceway can be quite a challenge for many sprint car teams to win at when you consider they only see the track a few times a year, the banking is nearly three stories tall, and Chuck Hebing has the place completely figured out.

Chuck “The Cobra” Hebing, of Ontario , NY , scored his fourth career win at the 1/3-mile Woodhull Raceway Saturday Night in just five Patriot starts, moving by defending champion Bryan Howland on lap 12 and maintaining a safe distance over the second half of the 25-lap feature to earn to his 33rd career Patriot Sprint Tour A-Main win.  Not only was it his fourth win at Woodhull for Hebing, it was also his fifth victory in a Patriot regular season opener in the last six years for the series’ all-time feature wins leader.

“This place has always been good to us,” stated Hebing in Victory Lane .  “This is a big win with Ron and everyone from Wilkins RV (his car owner and sponsor) here tonight.”

Hebing finished second in his heat race to Howland, but had accumulated enough passing points to redraw, where he pulled the fifth starting spot.  The 2006 and 2007 Series Champion started slowly as the race developed, but on a lap six restart after the race’s first caution flag period Hebing drove underneath polesitter Shayne Ely for second and began to stalk Howland for the lead.  Just as Hebing was driving by the No. 51 for the lead on lap 11, another caution flag was displayed, allowing Howland to get the lead back even though it would be short-lived.

On the lap 12 restart, Hebing pitched his Wilkins Recreational Vehicles/Roush-Yates Ford/Maxim No. 45 into the top half of the turn one banking while Howland slid up in turn two from bottom to top.  It appeared as if Howland would thwart Hebing’s momentum, but “Cobra” executed an impressive crossover maneuver down the backstretch followed by an effective slide job in turn four to officially grab the lead.

“I saw Bryan coming up on that restart but I had enough momentum to get back underneath him,” recalled Hebing.  “After getting the lead I tried to just run the middle and make it difficult for anyone that wanted to pass me.”

Despite pulling out to over a one second lead over Howland within two laps of grabbing the lead, the Filtrec Corportation/ Jimmy D’s/ Maxim No. 51 would stay within touch of the only driver with more career PST wins then he.  Once the leaders caught the tail of the field with four laps to go however, Hebing was far superior, ensuring his place in Victory Lane .

“The lapped traffic can be real tricky here,” noted Hebing.  “You can lose a ton of time if you are too careful so I had to stay aggressive and that was really critical in those final few laps.”

As if his track record was not strong enough on his own, Hebing also had additional help in his pit on Saturday as former sprint car standout and expert crew chief Mike Woodring was helping him with a new shock package on the night.

Bryan Howland would settle for second, his third runner-up showing at Woodhull.  The four-time series champ noted afterwards that his car was solid, but lacked the forward bite off of turn two that had enabled Hebing to get by him for the lead.

Tim Kelly was once again solid at Woodhull in his VFL Energy/ Vi-Kell/ Avenger No. 12 as he crossed in third.  The Rock Stream, NY shoe struggled with an engine issue earlier in the night but straightened it out for his third straight top-five on the High Banks.

Don Adamczyk was dominant early in the night as he won NPP Heat No. 1.  The redraw would be unkind to “The Williamsville Warrior” as he pulled the No. 8 tennis ball out of the hat, but he would rally to finish fourth for his third top-five at one of his favorite facilities.

Jared Zimbardi, who has not been as affectionate towards Woodhull, scored a top-five in his new No. 35 which matched his career best at the Southern Tier Saturday Night Staple; more than acceptable for a team focused on the 2011 PST Championship.

Scott Kreutter dominated heat two and was set to start the feature sixth when he stopped on the track for what he surmised was a shock issue on his No. 52.  After being forced to start the A-Main scratch on the field, the 2007 Patriot Rookie of the Year would charge up to finish sixth, just ahead of Vern Wasson, who also came from the back after folding up the front end of his No. 5 Eagle from contact with Kreutter in the heat.

Dave Wickham was consistent all night long to earn a solid eighth-place showing.  Shayne Ely and Jeff Frasier would round out the top-10.

Steve Collins won the Original Pizza Logs Four Laps of Fame, earning his first checkered flag in his rookie season of racing.  Collins was in seventh place on lap 14 when he looped his No. 67 and collected George Suprick, knocking both out of competition.

A total of 20 Patriot Sprints were on hand on in front of an impressive crowd on a rare gorgeous evening this spring in New York State .  Jeremy Barnard and Kyle Lefelhoc were plagued by engine issues for much of the night and were unable to start the feature.

The Patriot Sprint Tour returns to action next weekend in a big way with the first three-race weekend on the tour since 2005.  For more information, visit www.PatriotSprintTour.com.

AL RUDALAVAGE, JEREMY WONDERLING, JEREDD DENNIS AND RON DAILEY JR. ALL BECONE MULTIPLE FEATURE WINNERS AT THE WOODHULL RACEWAY.

A-Jay Potrzebowski and Joe Birdsall become first time 2011 winners.

(Woodhull, NY)  With heavy skies and rain in the offing it was full speed ahead this past Saturday night at the Woodhull Raceway to get the show into the record books.  With total cooperation of the racers and track personnel the mission was accomplished just as the skies opened up at the drop of the final checkered flag of the night.

A-Jay Potrzebowski was able to recover from last week’s technical infraction disqualification in the S&W Awards and Photos Crate Sportsman Division to pick up his first official feature win of the 2011 campaign.  However, for the Elmira, NY speedster it did not come easy as he had to come from the back of the field after an early race spin to claim the popular win.  Potrzebowski waited till the last corner of the last lap to make his way past then race leader, Art Goodier to finish in the top spot with Bill Williams finishing third after challenging Goodier for the lead throughout the 25 lap affair.  Rod Mullen and Roger Williams staged a torrid battle for fourth and fifth.  Six thru ten were Ray Smith, Josh Nobriga, Connor Brown, Mike Buchanan and Kreg Crooker.
Heat wins went to Don Lawson, Roger Williams and Ryan Tracey.

Alan Rudalavage is starting to like the Woodhull Raceway and for good reason as the Eynon, PA. speedster picked up his second feature win of the 2011 year in three starts.  Rudalavage played the waiting game to perfection, took over the top spot from Mike Bills near the half way mark and never looked back.  Frank Dunning had struggled mightily during the first two weeks of the year, however the Lawrenceville, Pa. veteran competitor put it all together to claim the runner up spot followed there by Dave Dubois, Bob Davis and Brian Doolittle.  Dylan Dewert led the charge of the next group of five across the line followed by Gil Tegg Jr., Dale Welty, Kenny Peoples Jr. and Donnie Lawson.
Heats were claimed by Tegg, Kevin Chilson and Rudalavage.

The NAPA 360 Late Models once again boasted a full field of cars and like Al Rudalavage before him, Jeremy Wonderling made it two wins thus far in 2011 at the high banked facility. Wonderling drove a masterful race bobbing and weaving thru heavy lap traffic throughout most of the 25 lap grind.  Glen Whritenour made plenty of noise coming thru traffic, however he came up a few car lengths short and settled for second place.  John Waters and Greg Galligan marched to third and fourth place finishes respectfully with pole position started Cecil LaBarron rounding the top five.  Jerry Wilson ran in the top five most of the event and settled for sixth followed by Bryce Davis, Mike Wonderling Sr., Dustin Waters and Greg Young.
Heat wins went to Galligan, Jeremy Wonderling and Whritenour.

With a brand new power plant bolted between the rails of his machine, Jeredd Dennis made short work of the Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stock 20 lap feature event.  Teddy Morseman kept Dennis honest throughout the closing laps and at times looked poised to claim his first feature of the year.  However, a car length was about as close as Morseman could get as the two leaders ran a clean race to the checkered flag.  For Dennis it was win number two on the 2011 campaign as last weeks feature winner, Brett Marlatt finished third with Mr. Top Five, Joe Layfield fourth and Kane Stebbins fifth.  Mike Williams was sixth chased across the line by Kurt Stebbins, Brett Crawford, Jeff Hellwig and Butch Dibble.
Early evening heat wins went to Marlatt, Dennis and Layfield.

With drizzle in the air the Signs Plus Mini Stocks were next to tackle the high banked one-third of a mile clay oval with history repeating itself for the fourth time during the 2K11 season as Ron Dailey Jr. once again came from deep in the field to nail down the win.  This week it did not come quite as easy as weeks previous as Dailey had several top notch drivers standing between himself and victory lane.  With only a few quick yellow flags to slow the pace, Dailey had to work every lane of the speedway to make his way to the front and after hard fought battles with Rich Sharpsteen and J.R. Hoppe he was able to get to the lead and hold it thru the closing laps of the 20 lap feature.  Hoppe held on for his best finish of the year with a well deserved runner-up finish while Sharpsteen was third, Jason Warner fourth and Jason Gleason fifth.  Six thru tenth were John Hand Jr., Dave Dubois, Chris Woodard, Chip Warner and Brandi Dailey.
Heat wins went to Hoppe and Ron Dailey Jr.

Last, but certainly not least the LaBarron Brothers Repair and Parts Front Wheel Drive Class hit the high banks of Woodhull and for the second time in four tries the high powered B-Boy Racing Team of Gary Baker and Ron Hill went down to defeat and it was once again at the hands of the Birdsall Race Team only this week it was son, Joe Birdsall taking home the checkered flag rather than his father, Billy Joe that won earlier in the season.  Both Birdsall’s were able to break out of the pack early in the 20 lap event and with no yellow flags to slow the feature they were able to open up a considerable distance between themselves and the rest of the field.  At the finish it was Joe collecting feature win number one of 2011 with father Billy Joe in second.  Cody Baker had another solid top finish in third followed by James Howard in fourth.  The B-Cars of Hill and Baker were fifth and sixth chased across the line by Brian Grant Sr., Brandon Brewer, Nate Freeland and Dan Roe.
Heat wins were claimed by Adam DelGrosso and Billy Joe Birdsall.

Next Saturday, May 21, 2011 will see the return of the Patriot Sprint Tour in conjunction with 5 of Woodhull’s regular weekly classes as the 360 LM will have the night off.

MICK SEELEY CLAIMS FIRST EVER NAPA 360 LATE MODEL FEATURE WIN AT THE WOODHULL RACEWAY.

Dailey Jr. remains perfect in Mini Stocks.  Bliss, Williams, Marlatt and Baker all claim feature wins.

(Woodhull, NY)  Mick Seeley of Lawrenceville, Pa. has been a staunch supporter of racing at the Woodhull Raceway throughout his entire career.  For the past ten years he has been a main stay at the facility, never straying away from the track that he and his family call home.  As he stood in victory lane last Saturday after his first ever feature win in the tough NAPA 360 Late Model Division it was a bitter sweet moment as he had lost both his mother and grandfather over the past few months.  For all those in attendance it was both tears of sorrow as well as tears of joy, none the less there was not a dry eye in the house as Seeley stood on the roof of his trusted mount and claimed, “This one is for you mom”!

For Mick the Quick it did not come easy as he had to come from the rear of the field after an early race incident, waited for the two lead cars to exchange blows with just a few laps remaining, got to the front and never looked back.  To make the victory even more special, Seeley’s long time friend and sponsor, Joe Willcox Performance put up the entire winners share of $1,000 and he too stood proudly in victory lane along with Mick’s father, Rick who turns the wrenches on the #31 machine.

Mick Seeley’s win proves once again that perseverance and dedication pays off and gives new meaning to the phrase, “Never, ever give up”!

Following Seeley across the line at the finish of the 25 lap feature was Greg Young in what was one of his best ever finished at the high banked facility with early race leader Dan Gardner finishing third.  Jaye McConnell was fourth followed by Wally Wade for fifth.  Six thru ten were Jerry Wilson, Fred Amann, Clint Button, Sparky Hills and Shane Smith.

Heat wins went to Gardner and Carl Hughes.

Brett Marlatt fought a skipping engine and a somewhat ill handling race car to win his first feature event of the 2011 season in the Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stock Division.  It came at a perfect time for “The Jet” as his opening two nights at Woodhull were less than impressive with only bad luck and a broken race car to show for it.  The Street Stocks ran perhaps their longest feature ever at Woodhull with a special 35 lap affair, however even with all the added laps it still came down to a trio of cars slugging it out for the win.  Marlatt showed his poise in the closing laps and was able to hold off relentless pressure from runner-up, Jeff Smith and third place finisher, Jeredd Dennis.  MR. Top 5, Joe Layfield once again lived up to his nickname finishing fourth with journeyman racer, Jeff Hellwig rounding the top 5.  Kane Stebbins led the charge of the next group of five across the line chased there by Bruno Mowery, Butch Dibble, Tom McGlynn and Kevin DZuroff.  The heartbreak of the event came for Kurt Stebbins as his machine coasted to a stop between turns three and four coming to the checkered ending a sure top five finish.

Heat wins including $20 track certificates were claimed by Ted Morseman JR., Marlatt and Mowery.

Ray Bliss Jr. was the class of the Insinger Performance 358 Modified feature as he cruised to win number one of the 2K11 season at the Woodhull Raceway.  The veteran Warsaw, NY speedster and his crew nailed the set up to perfection and even with several yellow flags that slowed the event was able to keep all challengers at bay on every re-start.  For the second week in a row perennial Woodhull Raceway Champion, Billy VanPelt fought a somewhat ill handling race car, however was able to come home in the runner-up spot chased there by Ron White, last weeks feature winner, Al Rudalavage with Mike Bills rounding the top five finishers.  Six thru ten were Kenny Peoples Jr., Kevin Chilson, Frank Dunning, Dave Dubois and Gil Tegg Jr.

358 Modified heat wins went to Casey Pavlick, White and Rudalavage.

After a post race inspection, second place feature finisher, Roger Williams was declared the winner of the S&W Awards and Photos Crate Sportsman feature.  What appeared to be a convincing win b A-jay Potrzebowski was claimed null and void after he was deemed to have an illegal carburetor in post race inspection handing the win to Williams.  Brady Fultz had another impressive performance in a rare Woodhull appearance as he finished second behind Williams with Ray Smith third, Josh Nobriga fourth and Stacy Jackson fifth.  Brett Buono put on a steady drive to finish sixth followed by Bill Williams, Mike Buchanan, Rod Mullen and Eric Delong.

The four qualifying heat wins went to Nobriga, Fultz, Doug Cline and Ray Smith.

Ron Dailey Jr. stormed thru the field to claim his third straight Signs Plus Mini Stock feature win and with that stays perfect during the early part of the 2011 race season.  Early event leader, Chris Woodard was not able to hold off the high flying Dailey and settled for a well deserved runner-up finish followed by Jason Warner, Rick Amidon and John Hand Jr.  Brian Grant Jr. was next across the line chased there by Kyle Babcock, Tracy Dunn, Tom Kleintop and Brandy Dailey, wife of the feature winner.

Heat wins went to Warner and Woodard.

Finishing out the action packed night of racing on the high banks of the Woodhull Raceway was the LaBarron Brothers Repair and Parts Front Wheel Drive Class.  In the early going it appeared that James Howard was poised to challenge for the feature win, however while negotiating lap traffic while taking over the race lead a lap machine made contact with Howard sending him to the infield and ending a brilliant drive.  From that point on it was again a B-Boy affair with Gary Baker passing his team mate, Ron Hill for his second win of the year.  Cody Baker continues to challenge for a feature win and settled for third chased across the finish line by a pair of hard charging Birdsall machines with son Joseph finishing fourth and father Billy Joe rounding the top five with both cars coming from the last starting row.  Carl LeBarron was sixth followed by the 7w with Nate Freeland eighth, Brandon Brewer ninth and last years track champion, Jamie Freeman rounding the top ten.

Heat wins were claimed by Baker and Hill.

Next Saturday, May 14 the Maple City Dodge of Hornell will present a regular Big 6 Show with gates opening at 4:30 and racing at 6:30.  For more information go to www.woodhullraceway.com

AL RUDALAVAGE WINS 358 MODIFIED FEATURE AT WOODHULL.
Goodier, Wonderling, Dennis, B.J. Birdsall and Daily also victorious.

(Woodhull, NY)  Al Rudalavage has bitter sweet memories of the Woodhull.  Albeit the fact he picked up his first ever feature win at the high banked facility last year, he also took his trusty mount home in a bushel basket after a nasty flip in the 2010 season finale.  Fast forward to April 30, 2011 and the popular Eynon, Pa. speedster returned to the Steuben County facility with a new machine and renewed confidence as he played the waiting game to perfection and picked up his first win of 2K11.  Having started in the 11th starting spot, Big Al methodically worked his way into the top five by lap four, was second a few laps later and waited for the right opportunity to pass then race leader, Donnie Lawson and cruise home to the 25 lap win.   Lawson settled for a well deserved runner-up finish in his first trip back to the 358 Modified Division in several years as he was followed across the line by Bob Davis who started last in the 22 car starting line-up with Ray Bliss Jr. holding on for fourth at the line while Billy VanPelt fought an ill handling machine to round out the top five.  Six thru ten were Rookie competitor, Casey Pavlick, Ron White, Kenny Peoples Jr., Mike Bills and Gil Tegg Jr.
Qualifying heat wins were claimed by Peoples Jr., Rudalavage and Ray Dann.

Art Goodier made up for some tough luck on opening night by blasting out in front early in the 25 lap Crate Sportsman feature and cruised to his first win of 2011.  The start of the Crate feature was marred by numerous yellow flags, but from lap four till the finish it was a green to checkered flag run and proved to be a very exciting event for the fans.  Goodier was followed across the line by Ray Smith who put on some very nifty moves as he came thru traffic to finish second as he was followed by early race leader, Kreg Crooker with Rod Mullen and Roger Williams rounding the top five.  Bob Johnson led the next group of five across the finish line as he was chased there by A-Jay Potrzebowski, Scott Brown, Mike Jackson and Josh Nobriga.  Heat wins went to Goodier, Stacy Jackson and Roger Williams.

The BRP Can Am 360 LM Series made it’s first of three appearances at Woodhull and with over 30 machines checking in the first challenge for most racers was just to qualify for the 30 lap feature.  The four qualifying heat races were claimed by Greg Galligan, John Waters, Mike Wonderling Jr., and Dave Dubois with Jaye McConnell taking the win in the lone consolation event.  With the field set and plenty of bite in the rich red clay of the Woodhull Raceway the field rumbled to the start of the main event.  Jeremy Wonderling took full advantage of his front row starting spot and controlled the top position throughout the first twenty-eight laps of the affair.  Greg Galligan waited until the two to go signal to show his muscle as he swept by both the second place running Jason Knowles and leader Wonderling to assume control of the top spot.  With the white flag waiving and the field entering turn three, Galligan bobbled just enough to allow Wonderling a good run off turn four and win the drag race to the finish.  Galligan settled for second followed by Jason Knowles, Dave Dubois, and Glen Whritenour.  Six thru tenth were Brian Knowles, Mike Wonderling Jr., Bryce Davis, Jeff Chesebro and John Waters.
As of the release of the BRP Can Am 360 LM Series feature finish all positions are Unofficial pending technical evaluation of the winning machine.

The Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stocks were up next for their 20 lap feature and Jeredd Dennis made short work of things as he controlled the entire affair.  His only challenge came from Teddy Morseman mid race as he was able to get by Dennis on the high side and lead briefly.  However, Dennis was just to much for anyone to handle on this night and cruised to the win followed by Mr. Top 5, Joe Layfield with Morseman third, Jeff Smith fourth and Cliff Moss rounding the top five.  Butch Dibble led the charge of the next group of five across the line followed by Rookie contender, Tom McGlynn, newcomer Ted Mascho, last weeks winner, Brett Crawford and Kurt Stebbins.
Heat wins were claimed by Brett Marlatt, Crawford and Dennis.

Ron Daily Jr. continued his winning ways as he once again completely dominated the 20 lap Mini Stock feature event to make it back to back wins in 2011.  The best battle all race long was for second with Rick Amidon getting the nod in his best ever feature finish chased across the line by John Hand, Dave Dubois Jr., and Tracy Dunn.  The next five were Jason Warner, Seth Kline, Jason Gleason, Brandy Daily and John Hand Sr.  Heat wins went to Ron Daily Jr. and Chris Woodard.

The LaBarron Brothers Repair and Parts FWD feature wrapped up an action packed night at Woodhull with Billy Joe Birdsall taking his first feature win of the 2K11 campaign.  For B.J. it did not come very easy as he had to hold off relentless pressure from former track champion, Gary Baker to claim the win with Baker’s team mate, Ron Hill taking the third spot followed by Cody Baker and Scott Wedd.  The Hammer, James Howard led the next group across the line followed by Brian Grant Sr., Adam DelGrosso, Jeremy Seeley and Dan Roe.
Heat wins went to the B-cars of Hill and Baker.

Next Saturday, Woodhull will open the month of May on the 7th with a 35 lap Street Stock Special in conjunction with all the other regular five classes of competition.  Gates open at 4:30 with racing at 6:30 pm.  The night of action presented by Pepsi, the Official Beverage of the Woodhull Raceway.

JASON KNOWLES IN 360 LM AND BRETT CRAWFORD IN STREET STOCKS TAKE FIRST EVER WOODHULL WINS IN THEIR RESPECTIVE CLASSES.

Donnie Lawson caps off busy weekend in Crate Sportsman, Ron Daily Jr. in Mini Stocks and Gary Baker in FWD back in familiar territory.

(Woodhull, NY)  For second generation pilot, Jason Knowles it was a very long, frustrating wait to win his first ever NAPA 360 LM feature at the Woodhull Raceway.  The second generation pilot from Painted Post has competed in the division for several years with little or no real results to show for it except for broken race cars and a scary concussion at one point.   However, it was a jubilant victory lane last Saturday as Knowles played the waiting game to perfection and cruised to his first ever on the high banks.  After patiently running in the third spot for most of the 25 lap affair, Racin’ Jason inherited the lead under the most unusual set of circumstances.  Late in the event it appeared as though John Waters was poised to take home the win and although he was under heavy pressure from Brian Knowles throughout most of the affair was able to maintain the top spot.  That all changed in the closing laps as contact between Brian Knowles and Waters coming out of turn four sent Waters spinning and B. Knowles to the tail of the field.  From then on it was the Jason Knowles show as he cruised to the popular win.  Jared Hill finished second in his best ever showing in the 360 LM class since moving into the division full time in 2010.  Last year’s Woodhull Track Champion, Glen Whritenour was third followed by Mike Wonderling Sr. with his son, Mikey Wonderling Jr. rounding the top five.  John Waters recovered to finish sixth followed by Greg Galligan, Cecil LaBarron, Buck LaBarron and Jaye McConnell.

Qualifying heat wins went to Waters, Whritenour and Brian Knowles.

Donnie Lawson capped off a perfect weekend in the S&W Awards and Photos Crate Sportsman Division as he nailed down the win in what appears to be his final appearance in Crate Sportsman action at Woodhull during the regular 2011 race season.  After claiming the win on Friday night at Penn Can Speedway, Lawson was able to hold off a determined Ajay Potrzebowski to take the feature win as he will be moving full time to the 358 Modified Class this year.   Early in the 25 lap feature Art Goodier looked poised to have a solid top three finish, however a mechanical glitch sent him to the pit area negating a good run.  For Lawson and Potrzebowski it was like 2010 all over again with the two battling for the win with Ray Smith coming home with the third place podium position.  Roger Williams and Mike Jackson rounded out the top five.  Six thru ten were Brett Buono, Ryan Tracey, John Hargrave, Rod Mullen and Don Lawson.

Heat wins were claimed by Art Goodier, Hargrave and Potrzebowski.

The Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stocks were next to take to the high banked one-third mile oval and with typical spring track conditions it was more a matter of patience over aggressiveness and Brett Crawford played the game to perfection as he jumped into the early lead, tip toed his way thru the corners and cruised to his first ever feature win in the popular Street Stock Division.  For Crawford it was a return engagement to a class where he originally started a few years ago.  Without much success he moved to the Mini Stock Class where he won features and honed his skills.  Fast forward to 2011 and now Crawford is set to challenge for wins and a possible track title.  As the checkered flag waved to end the 20 lap feature Crawford had a very comfortable lead over Mike Williams who finished in the runner-up spot followed by Jeff Smith, Curt Stebbins and Joe Layfield who challenged for the race lead early drifted back to fifth at the finish.  Leading the charge of the next group of five across the line was Jeredd Dennis, Kane Stebbins, Jeff Hellwig, Jeff Brown and Allison Pierce rounded the top ten after moving into the Street Stocks from the FWD Division in 2011.

Qualifying heat wins were claimed by Dennis and Layfield.

The Signs Plus of Kanona ran an extra distance feature event as part of the season opener and like Donnie Lawson before him, Ron Daily Jr. has not skipped a beat over the winter months as he easily cruised to his first win of 2K11.  Daily was certainly the class of the field as he put plenty of race track between himself and the second place finishing John Hand Jr. with veteran competitor Ed Mills finishing in the third spot followed across the line by Jason Gleason and Tracy Dunn who finished fifth.  Six thru ten were Rick Amidon, Seth Kline, Brandy Daily, wife of the feature winner in her first ever outing in a Mini Stock, Dave Dubois and Jason Warner.

Heat wins went to Dave Dubois and Brian Grant Jr.

Last but not least the LaBarron Brothers Repair and Parts FWD Class was on the track for their 20 lap feature event with veteran Woodhull competitor Carl LeBarron looking to dethrone the powerful B Team Cars of Ron Hill and Gary Baker.  LeBarron jumped to the early lead and looked strong throughout most of the feature and then late in the event disaster struck the Troupsburg, NY wheelman as he hooked a rut between turns one and two.  After a series of roll over’s the car landed on its room with smoke and fire enveloping the machine.  Quick work by Woodhull’s wrecker, push truck and fire crews found Carl out of the car and in safe company.  When the race resumed Gary Baker assumed the top spot and the 2009 Track Champion held on for the win.  Baker was chased across the line by Cody Baker, Dan Roe, Joe Birdsall and Adam DelGrosso.  James Howard led the charge of the next group across the line followed by Jeremy Seeley, Elmer Smith, Jacob Clark with Brandon Brewer rounding out the top ten.

Heat wins were claimed by LeBarron and Roe.

Saturday, April 30 will mark two firsts at Woodhull in 2011 as the Insinger 358 Modifieds along with the BRP Can Am 360 LM Series will make their first appearances of the season.  Gates for the show open at 4:30 with racing at 6:30 pm.  For more information go to www.woodhullraceway.com.

STEUBEN COUNTY SHERIFF’S STOP DWI PROGRAM RE-JOINS THE WOODHULL RACEWAY IN 2011.

(Woodhull, NY) Representatives of both the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department as well as the Woodhull Raceway have recently announced a joint effort between the two which will better promote the counties Stop DWI program.

“We are thrilled to have the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department on board with us again this year, stated Woodhull Raceway owner, Ted White. Over the years the track has always been able to depend on the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department if any situations have arisen where law enforcement was summoned to the facility. We consider it a real honor to have Sheriff Joel Ordway and his staff team up with us again as part of our marketing program in 2011.”

For the second consecutive year, The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department Stop DWI program will be a main focus of attention at the Woodhull Raceway in an attempt to make race fans more aware of the dangers of drinking and driving.

“Sheriff Joel Ordway full understands that having a few beers throughout the night of race competition is just part of the enjoyment for many race patrons and there is nothing wrong with that. We as track employees also enjoy a drink or two at the end of a long night, however the bottom line here is that folks need to drink responsibly and if you have had to much to drink hand the keys to someone else and this is the theme that we will push again in 2K11. Patrons, racers, team members and employees need to know when to say when. It doesn’t matter if it is a night of action at Woodhull or socializing with friends at a drinking establishment. Our goal is to better educate everyone concerned.” That again according to track owner, White.

As part of the marketing effort between the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department and the Woodhull Raceway a 4’x8’ billboard will be installed in the infield area of the track, numerous public address announcements will be aired throughout the night, the Steuben County Stop DWI Program will be mentioned on the Woodhull Raceway Report Weekly Audio Cast and it won’t stop there.

The track management has invited Sheriff Ordway and any of his staff member’s access to the track any time they wish to set up displays for better education of the tracks patrons. White is also encouraging the department to have a night or two at the track this summer where youngsters can be fingerprinted and parents as well as kids can be better informed of many of the issues that the department deals with and how they can better protect themselves, their children as well as their homes.
